Interesting, focused plan.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The author shares her personal revelations and story as far as turning around how she viewed her body and how that brought her to a closer connection with God.
This book is a journey that helps you take a different look at your eating habits. Focusing on prayer and becoming connected to your belief that God is in control of all we are and who we are will lead you to a healthier relationship with food.
The author walks us through not only her life altering changes, but also how we can get that close connection between our faith, our self-image, and our relationship with food.
She addresses how to shift our focus off of food to become more in tune with our body and how to nourish it. Katie walks us through real social situations and changing our focus to become more mindful and using food as an act of worship.
With many quotes from Scripture, prayers we can use, and even recipes to help nourish our mind and soul, this book is well thought out with a solid plan for allowing you to focus on fueling your body and fueling your closer connection to God and developing a positive body image.
This is a great book for any woman, from teenager to the elderly, that has body issues, eating disorders, or any other food issues. If you are looking for a natural, scripture based plan for eating and becoming a healthier you, NOURISH by Katie Farrell is a perfect choice to refer to, assist you, and help you reach your personal connection with God and your food goals.
This is a good book for those who want to have a body that gives honor to God. Perhaps dieting has been a frustration. Maybe we wonder if there is any hope.
I like that Farrell has drawn our attention to the relationship between our spirituality and our body. She encourages us to develop an intimate relationship with God, allowing Him to change our hearts. She encourages us to recognize God's presence when we eat. She also writes about surrendering, praying for wisdom, responding to our emotions, finding freedom, being healthy from the inside out, and more.
In addition to spiritual encouragement, Farrell gives information on food and suggests what she calls clean eating. She encourages us to reduce our intake of processed foods. She provides recipes too.
She tells us her story, including her own battle with an eating disorder. She had a life changing experience when she was confronted by her sisters. That began her journey to understand how to have a healthy body. She helps readers on that journey too, such as adding a Scripture reflection, reflection questions, and a prayer at the end of each chapter.
I recommend this book to those who want to understand how important their relationship to God is when it comes to having a right attitude toward food and one's body. Farrell has given me much to think about and work on. She has also given me a good strategy and plan for working toward glorifying God in my eating and physical condition.
You can find out more about Farrell and what she offers toward healthy eating at https://dashingdish.com/.
Food for thought: “When we make the choice to run to God instead of food, He will meet our needs and satisfy our souls in a way that only He can.” (119)
Nourish: Discover God’s Perfectly Balanced Plan for Your Body and Soul by Katie Farrell is an amazing book that addresses the importance of us being completely healthy – spirit, soul and body.
This book is a must read for anyone who has a desire to improve their health and well-being in some of the most important aspects of their lives.
There is no denying that Katie’s primary focus in this book is to help readers understand the vital role that God plays in our lives, especially regarding our health. She encourages readers to live a free life and explains why fellowship with Jesus Christ is the foundation of our freedom.
This is far from the traditional health and wellness book that focuses primarily on eating healthy and exercising regularly. That’s precisely why I enjoyed this book so much. Eating healthy and exercising regularly are very important when living a healthy life is a priority. However, total wholeness is only accomplished when God is acknowledged as the center of our lives. Katie understands that and makes it the foundation that she builds and teaches everything else on.
I really appreciate Katie opening up and sharing her struggles with an eating disorder as a teenager. Her transparency is sure to resonate with readers who have similar experiences. She also shared the Scripture that helped guide her during the tough times in her life. Romans 12:2 helped her in ways that dieting and exercising could not.
This book is written in a very conversational tone, like talking to a friend. That made for a very easy, flowing and impactful read. In each chapter there are great prayers, reflection questions and recipes for readers to get even more from this book. There are a couple recipes that I definitely plan on trying soon.
Nourish delivers on it’s promise and is sure to help many readers in ways they likely never would have imagined before picking this book up. Mental and emotional driving forces behind eating habits are addressed, recipes and exercises are shared and most important making God the center of our lives in every area of our lives is encouraged. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to seriously improve their health, starting from the inside out.
This was an interesting book that interconnected God with our bodies. It was an interesting perspective to hear from Katie Farrell who grew up as anorexic and then bulimic as got to hear about her struggle with her body image and food, but then how finding God allowed her to start living a much healthier relationship with her body and health. You recognize that God has a plan for each and every one of us and gave us each our our unique body types, so the goal should never be about trying to look like x person or y person as lot of these people are airbrushed in magazines and also just have different genetics than us. It should just be about being a better version of yourself. She explains how God didn't intend us to focus our lives on our physique, our health, on the foods we eat, etc. and that all God intended us to focus our lives on is believing him. The key take away of this book to me is that each and every one of us has the will power and ability to change our health and body in an enjoyable fashion and not by hating ourselves while still believing in God.
Keep exercising, keep lifting, keep eating healthy, simply because you want to be stronger / healthier / faster / look better than the day before and this will never stop for the rest of your life.
Katie’s book is a wonderful read if you’ve experienced a relationship with food and exercise that is unhealthy. She shares her story in the beginning and with snippets here and there throughout the chapters
The book is easy to read, but maybe too easy? I felt that the same thought was expressed several times with just a different way of saying it and so I felt it was a bit repetitive in that sense.
However it is an encouraging book with many verses of scripture scattered throughout that explain how that verse can relate to you or offers a different POV of how Jesus cares for us. But also how his care for us reflects biblically and how it can be applied.
I would think that even if you fell of the healthy lifestyle wagon, there are still many takeaways from this book. Including recipes with easy to find ingredients to try out as well - however no pictures. But if you’re already living a healthy lifestyle it will encourage and teach you more.
Basically, it’s a simply written, encouraging book with the focus on moving your lifestyle to a healthier one that reflects the vision that God originally intended for us.
I would find this book especially good for young girls, ages 12 and up!
It’s hard to write a somewhat critical review of a book like this — so perhaps I should preface by saying I’ve read a great deal in this arena - breaking strongholds, eating a balanced diet, exercising in body, mind, spirit, and some in disordered eating.
This book felt very elementary - in style, voice, and content. If you’re looking for a deep dive into the spiritual work of restoration of your body and mind, this is not for you. I mostly leafed through after the first few chapters, seeing what the bold headings were and from time to time reading more in depth.
I give two stars instead of one because, having met the author in real life, I know without a doubt she has a passion for the ministry of helping women to restore their relationship with God and food; I applaud her telling her story. It just wasn’t all that captivating.
Nourish is a good read to discover balance. That hard balance between body and soul. The struggle is real. That which we don't want to do, we do. And, what we want to do, we don't. The age-old battle between our body and our mind. The writer approaches the reader with a "been there/done that" message. Each chapter has tips, recipes, and spiritual truths. The book is a testimony of how God not only captures hearts but is able to do total transformations!
I highly recommend this book for those who struggle with personal image, an unhealthy relationship with food, and those who just want more balance in their life.
I loved "Nourish" by Katie Farrell. I cannot say enough good things about this book. From the beginning, Katie is transparent about her battle with body image, food and how she has had to wrestle with these things as idols rather than seeing the perspective God has of her. Until she got the right perspective, she knew that the outside would never reflect the transformation that Christ was looking to do on the inside. Once Katie figured out that looking good on the inside was a direct reflection of the inner beauty Christ was trying to do on the inside, Katie began to trust Him and replace the lies she has been telling herself for years. Packed with truth, recipes and advice, this book is encouraging for the woman who is looking for practical tools to live a healthier lifestyle from the inside out.
One of the many things I loved about this book was the recipes. I struggle to find recipes that excite me or to find new ones to incorporate into my life that are easy and Katie was able to do that for me! I also loved the power and vulnerability that Katie has in sharing her testimony. Her story is inspiring, yet relatable and something that all women have experienced at some point or another. This is one of those books that you will keep on the shelf to bring on from time to time for different seasons in your life, daughter or granddaughter's life. I truly enjoyed this book. I give this book 5/5 stars. A favorable review was not required.
I really loved this book! It's a quick read (I finished it in a few days). It has some great recipes that I want to try and they look like ones my kids will enjoy too. I just reached my weight goal on weight watchers, so I'm in a good place. But I think this book has helped give me additional tools to make this healthy lifestyle a permanent one. Whether you are starting out on your health journey, or just want some extra tools to continue a healthy lifestyle, I highly recommend this book.
Katie has such great wisdom from walking this road. She is encouraging, honesty, and straightforward about the battle so many of us face with food. If you're looking for a fresh perspective on the battle and how to finally win it, get Katie's book.
I enjoyed the honest easy style and subject matter. I loaned it to my college aged daughter and she loved it and thought Katie Farrell had a fresh much needed voice addressing body image and what young woman struggle with. I also loved the recipes.
Absolutely loved reading Katie’s story, and how Dashing Dish came to be. Katie breaks down clean eating in easy to understand steps, but goes beyond just short term diets. Nourish teaches you how to live a lifestyle of caring for your whole being: spirit, soul, and body.
According to Katie Farrell, Nourish is not just another diet or health book. Instead, Nourish shares how readers can pursue better health from three different aspects: spirit, soul and body.
Nourish is written by someone who has been there. Farrell shares her own personal story about how she overcame her food struggles with God's help. Her writing shows how how she looks to God for guidance as she writes on page 174, "Instead of thinking about ways to give in to my sinful cravings and desires, I now long to honor God with my body and worship Him with everything I do, think, and say. By no means does this mean that I am perfect or have everything together; in fact, the very reason I am writing this book is that I understand the struggle!" Each chapter offers a part of Farrell's story along with helpful information to improve your own health. At the end of each chapter, she shares a Scripture, reflection questions, prayer and a recipe. Some of the recipes included in the book are: Baked Oatmeal Singles, Taco Chicken Quinoa Bowls, and Cheesy Chicken and Green Chili Lasagna. At the back of the book, Farrell includes two appendixes. One is a chart of "lies versus truth" to help readers change their negative thinking into positive thinking from God's word. Then the second appendix includes scripture-based prayers to help readers turn to God and live a life for Him.
One of the aspects I especially like about Nourish is how Farrell continually points the reader back to the Scriptures. She encourages readers to read their Bible daily and to pray. Farrell also encourages readers to read Scripture and turn verses into prayers for each day. This book leaves me hungering for time alone with my God and spending time searching the Scriptures for what He has to say to me. I did know a lot of the health information already that Farrell shared in this book. But I so appreciated her heart for God, her down-to-earth "me too" approach and honesty in sharing her story. It was truly an encouraging an uplifting book. Nourish would be especially good for someone who also is recovering from an eating disorder or a younger Christian woman looking for inspiration to make a healthy life change. My one small complaint is that I wish the book had an index of the page numbers for the recipes to find them quickly.
While this is the first book that I have read from Farrell, she is also the author of the Dashing Dish Cookbook and a devotional book also designed to help readers get healthier. She is a registered nurse and blogs about health on the Dashing Dish.
I received Nourish from FaithWords/Hachette Book Group. I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for the book.
This book is a bit scattered in its content, but it’s very inspiring. I’ve read it twice, and been helped and encouraged both times. It has a lot of helpful information about fueling and moving our bodies the way God intended. But the most important part is learning to to see ourselves through His eyes, and stop believing the lies we tell ourselves about our bodies. This book is great for people who have struggled with eating disorders, as well as those who are determined to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. There’s no crash dieting or special foods involved, only healthy, wholesome foods and a lot of truth and scripture!
Nourish Is such an open, real, loving, touching and amazingly glorifying book. The author truly opens herself up wholly in this book. I was so taken with it right off. She starts off telling you how when she was younger she had to move to a new town and move to a new school. When she goes to a new school 1st day of lunch a boy gives her a note and guess what happens - that note is a crude picture of a fat girl. She goes and cries in the bathroom for a very long time and develops an eating disorder for many years. Then what happens? Well the book is so unreal and so informative and touching you must get it.
Nourish by Katie Farrell is a book that applies God's Word to your relationship with food. One thing I loved about this book was the great Scriptures throughout. The author explains her own battle with anorexia and bulimia. I think this book would be most suited to helping people dealing with similar issues. Overall, it is a good read. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
