See the enchanting world of fairy tales in a vibrant new way—through gorgeously illustrated maps of the stories’ magical lands!
Whether it’s Little Red Riding Hood wandering through the woods or Alice falling down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, almost every fairy tale and children’s classic tells the story of a protagonist’s journey. Through a series of stunningly illustrated maps of iconic fantasylands, this atlas depicts those incredible adventures as never before. Enjoy a breathtaking aerial view of Dorothy and her friends following the Yellow Brick Road into the Emerald City, or of Pinocchio’s travels in his quest to become a real boy. This beautiful volume contains eight tales in all.
Basically, it’s a condensed version of several well-loved stories that includes maps (omg duh Jessica!) of each world and all of its significant places mentioned.
The art is incredible and this is a perfect eye-catching coffee table book.
The Atlas of Fairy Tales, by Claudia Bordin is obviously a collection of fairy tales/stories, though some classify the collection as a whole as folklore. Included in this collection are 8 of our classic stories including but not limited to "Little Red Riding Hood," "Alice in Wonderland," and "The Wizard of Oz" accompanied by beautiful illustrations of maps of the setting of each story-forests, castles, villages...etc. This collection is for children aged 5-18. For each of the 8 stories, the book presents a modified re-written shorter version of the classic story presented along with an associated map. While the intention is a unique one, and the drawings are beautiful the maps appear more like illustrations. I have found though that stopping to look at the map throughout the story is fun and I can see it being incredibly engaging as an activity when reading together with a young child and can also be used as a visual to help support that childs comprehension of the story.
Really love the idea on how the writer put the map of every fairy tales here (in case we got lost). And the details are amazing!
My favorite illustration goes to Beauty and the Beast because the castle looks astonishing, and for the story I'll choose Pinocchio since it made me teary eyes.
I just hope that there'll be more stories in that book.
I bought this for the illustrations and I was not disappointed! Claudia Bordin has such a beautiful, whimsical quality to her work that does wonders for these fairy tales!
