Derek is a commander on the ship Horizon and part of the police force of the Alliance which is a intergalactic council of planets. The book starts off with him on a mission to get technology from their competitor who has been ahead technologically and picking off weaker planets in the Alliance. When he gets back from his mission he gets intel about the home planet, Almagest, of his girlfriend Caeli. In the original book one of the series Derek lands on her planet and saves her from her planet where she's part of the race that is being killed by the dictator of her planet. On Almagest they are telepathic and healers so the Alliance has an interest in keeping the planet shielded from their enemies and others who would exploit it and the people. Due to this vested interest and Caeli's loyalty of those she's left behind, Derek and his crew as well as Caeli head out on a mission to basically stage a coup on the existing government.

There were a lot of really good things about this book. For one thing I can tell the author put a lot of effort into thinking about the world and story she was building, there's a lot of detail to make it seem more realistic. The explanations for the technology plus differences in the Sapiens on different planets were convincing. The plot line was solid, it's been done before but because its a good one.

The problem for me was that at first so much new information is introduced in the book that I had trouble keeping up. The two main male characters were Derek and Drew so that was really hard to keep straight at first. Also there were tons of names introduced at once especially once they go back onto Almagest. I think this made it hard for the book to really build on the characters. There was a lot of time spent on the world building and then on the action and background stories that I didn't really get a chance to feel anything for the characters. I'm not sure if having the first book would have changed that but for me personally the book was good but I didn't feel connection to it or get emotionally involved. It's a good sci fi read and if you like action and well thought out back drops then you'll probably like this.

The first book I thought was a nice read. I was on the edge of finding the book to be a great read but never fully got there. Yet, something changed in this second book and I fond that spark I was looking for. Because there was no formalities with getting to know the characters I was able to just jump right into this book. Additionally, it did not hurt that the crew was so closely bonded and their voices stronger that I paid attention to them more. In fact, I thought this book had a bit of the feel of the movie, Serenity based on the short lived television series, Firefly by Joss Whedon.

As I have stated many times that the world, characters, and action are all important factors in these types of books to me. Well this book had all of that. I do have to mention Dr. Caeli and Derek's relationship. It has grown stronger from the first book. They are good together. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

This is the second in the Horizon series and it is just as good as the first. The characters are more familiar so you are more invested in their stories. Derek and Caeli are back to her planet to free it from the tyranny of genocidal Marcus. Things do not go as expected and heartbreak awaits for both of them. Interspersed with their story is the back story of how the Novali came to be and the events that caused the beginning of the troubles. Engrossing, edge of the seat read. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

The second installment in this series was just as amazing as the first one, Horizon!

In this novel, Caeli's home is under an evil regime - one who instills fear and despises anyone who isn't like them. In Marcus version of the world, anyone with the lifesaving and remarkable powers that Caeli and her people have are outcasts and need to be controlled by force. His army has even gone as far as to sell children into slavery and a life of misery and death. From our own history, we can see how easily and quickly this can happen when one person instills fear of others into the majority and how deadly the consequences can be.

Caeli and Derek make the decision to go back to her home, they don't know what they will do but they know they need to be there. Once she arrives, she learns of the resistance. While small, outgunned and hiding from everyone around them, they are brave and full of hope. It's not just Caeli's people who have joined the resistance - it is also members of Marcus' army, those who have taken in her people and members of Marcus' city. They know what he is doing is wrong and want to help stand up to him. This begins an amazing and scary adventure of the resistance fighting back, rescue and hope. It is scary, hopeful and full of tears and inspiration.

Infinity is a well written story of hope, fighting for what is right and what you believe in and freedom for all. I loved every moment of this novel - just as much and if not more as Horizon. Infinity does not disappoint!

Infinity is the second in the Horizon series. Unlike the first, there is really no character descriptions. Most are from the first book where you got to know them, but a reminder would have been helpful. As it is, if you haven't read Horizon for awhile, you may want to reread it before reading the next book.
I found Infinity a struggle to get into, mostly because I couldn't remember who certain people were. I also found that the plot was almost struggling to work. It did have some decent ideas and fun people, but it was not my favorite.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

A story of revolution and hope, Infinity presents its readers with an action filled windy plot populated by compelling and interesting characters. The old favorite characters, especially Caeli, who we know and love, gain more depth while their romances never seem to lose their shine. The story of its past, within its larger rebellion plotline, gives the entire story a new flavor and complexity that pushes this sequel higher in my favor than the first. And I have a distinct feeling that Lord is just getting started on this intergalactic journey she has taken us on. You’ll just have to read it to find out.

Author Tabitha Lord dedicates the first sequel to her science-fiction novel Infinity to her father, who first showed her the stars. As with its predecessor, this installment titles most of its chapters based on whose third-person perspective it chiefly follows, akin to George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice pantheon. The first opens with Derek, one of the two primary protagonists, being followed by something or someone, and visits a bar, ultimately returning to the Horizon for a debriefing. There, it is revealed that two Alliance planets have been lost to the antagonistic Drokarans.

Events from the first book are reference early on, such as how Caeli Crys, the other protagonist with many chapters dedicated to her own third-person viewpoint, helped handle a crisis on Tharsis, along with an aversion of terroristic activity. One of the sequel’s points of interest is dealing with the theme of human trafficking, with the world of Raasvan engaging in the illicit activity, and espionage established over one of its auction houses. Caeli doesn’t get her own chapters until a way through the early portion of the story, and often dreams of Derek, with tragedy having separated her from her initial love.

One interesting narrative technique the sequel uses, absent from the first book, is the focus in between and/or after chapters of dated correspondence between high-ranking officials such as the Secretary General of Almagest, Jed Worthington, who communicates with others such as scientists. This definitely helps the first follow-up with some behind-the-scenes narratives other than those focused on Derek and Caeli. Overall, the second book in Lord’s sci-fi series is definitely a recommended read for those who enjoyed the first book, and as with most franchises whose stories are deeply interconnected, readers new to the pantheon will definitely want to start with the first book before reading the second.

Infinity by Tabitha Lord Infinity is the second book to Horizon. It times to return to Caeli home world. What is going on there and what is happening to her people? It is an adventure of it own. Will the Resistance win the war or will the  Dictator of Augestmast win.

Caeli and her small group of friends want to help. They will assist Caeli and her people and their group of resistance mean. Is there a spy along the way for Marcus and his army. You will need to read to find out. Caeli comes back to help her group of resistance friends like Jon. What are they keeping them and what are they doing to the children.

Will the people stand up and fight or will they let some tell them what to do? Will Derek and Cali love survive?  A world is torn between them too. Derek love Caeli enough to stay with her? There are so many surprises and twist along the way, you will be to wanting turn the page to find out.

Tabitha Lord give you adventure of your life and a book you will not want to put down. The plot is well written and done. You get a love story along the way. You get to know the crew as well as Derek and Caeli.

I believe this book is good for though science fiction but also I would suggest teens to read it from the age of 14 and up. The parent has the right to decide. It being rated PG 13 so it would be okay for 13 years old if you the parent this your child or children are mature enough for the book. That is up to you.

This is another exciting installment -strong writing and plot make it engaging. My rating 4.5.

This sequel picks up shortly after the end of Horizon. Derek and his team get intel that one of Caeli’s people, the Novali, has been sold in a space market. The intel reveals that Almagest is now trading with space opportunists and the use of these empathic people could be a fierce weapon…for good or evil depending on who controls them. This could endanger more than just Caeli’s home planet.

Derek’s commander agrees to allow Derek to take a team to Almagest to determine the extent of the problems. When the team arrives they soon discover the resistance struggling to face a cold winter with limited supplies. There are still contacts within the city but Marcus, the brutal dictator, is pushing hard to find rebels while arranging trades of ore and Novali to further his military growth.

The team must find new shelter as Marcus is sending planes out to locate and destroy their current camp. Caeli is already suffering PTSD and is emotionally injured again when not everyone makes it safely to the new location. The team plans a daring raid to take control of a supply train. The plan runs into a few hitches but does result in desperately needed food supplies for the resistance.

The team and resistance leaders realize they have to move soon as Marcus closes in. Derek decides to go undercover to approach Marcus so he can get a better picture of the situation. Although Caeli has been glad to see familiar faces, some events are triggering the PTSD that impacts her effectiveness at crucial times. There are more losses and betrayals before an all-out confrontation brings the rebels face to face with Marcus’ troops.

This story jumped into action and continued along at a good pace. Emotions ran on a roller coaster with sorrow and anger followed by joy and hope; then dropping again to more anger, sorrow and fear. The relationship between Derek and Caeli is strong and touching. I liked the inclusion of characters from the first book and there are some new characters I like and hope to see in the next book(s).

The author uses historic journals to explain how the Novali people came to be which was interesting once it became clear what this was. A simple tie in through the current day characters explaining they were reading the journal would have made this technique clearer. I liked the plot progress and the resolution on the planet. Then the author adds a last page hook of suspense to set up the next book. Hope it isn’t a long wait! I recommend this to readers who enjoy a good space opera with action, suspense and warm romance elements.

I received this from NetGalley for tour review.

Infinity by Tabitha Lord is the second book in the Horizon Sci-Fi series. It can be read as a stand-alone, though the reader would benefit from having read the first book prior to tackling this one. The second book is the continuation of Caeli and Derek’s story as they return to Almagest in a covert attempt to overthrow the ruthless dictator Marcus.

The Alliance has discovered that Marcus is involved in human trafficking of the Novali people, who are empathic, as a means to purchase advanced technology. The planet is vulnerable to falling into the hands of the Alliance’s enemies who would love to use the Novali as a weapon in the war against the Alliance. Since Almagest is not a member planet, the Alliance is almost powerless to prevent this from happening hence the mission. Once a democratic government is installed, Almagest can then apply for membership in the Alliance.

Once Caeli and Derek, along with a small elite team from the Horizon, arrive on the planet they find a small pocket of resistance fighters hiding in the wild evading Marcus’s attempts to capture them and quell the resistance once and for all. They start working with the resistance fighters to free Novali prisoners with the ultimate goal of overthrowing Marcus. A plan is devised that requires Derek to go undercover as a mercenary and setup a trade of technology for the prisoners. It is not long before things go awry and the resistance must depend on the ordinary citizens to assist in over throwing the dictatorship.

The plot is not new by any means, but it is timeless. Humanity will always struggle against individuals who try to use fear and violence to force their idea of a perfect world onto others. It seems like we as a human race are destined to always struggle with the Machiavellian idea of, “Does might make right?”

I really liked the first book, but I loved this one, mainly because the book spent almost the entire time on the world of Almagest. There is plenty of action to move the plot along nicely. Since I already knew so much about the main characters I was invested in the story from the beginning. I also liked that we find out how the Novali people came to be. In a nut shell, Infinity ticks all the boxes for me. It is a skilled and, thoughtfully done Sci-Fi story. I look forward to the next book in this series, especially since we get a hint at the very end of what is to come.

My rating is 4.5 stars but rounded up here to 5 stars. I received a free copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Infinity Builds on the Basis of Horizon. In the same blend of genre styles, Lord continues her science fiction/fantasy/romance/adventure series with virtually the same writing style and same easy to read format as the first book. Readers will experience the book's scenes through the thoughts and perceptions of the characters again--but, with a little extra information from other sources and viewpoints to add background, details and more depth to the scenes.

Infinity is a Story of Hope and Good. While I complained a bit that the first book's characters and their behaviors were a little too perfect to seem "real"--I think I grew to appreciate that "good, moral behavior" and how it brought the characters together more through the second book as the plot concerned morality and right and wrong to a stronger degree.

The Books of this Series Should be Read in Order. I am often one to read books of a series out of order. I would not recommend doing that with this series. The author does revisit some parts of Horizon early on--but, not enough to fully connect to the second book. Infinity does offer a lot by way of insights and connections that I felt were lacking at times as I read the first book of the series. Having said that; however, reading the first book first is the only way to read this series and truly connect with the characters and the ongoing developments.

Would I Recommend Infinity by Tabitha Lord? I enjoyed the depth and development of the storyline and characters in the second book of the series. I'm not sure if I simply felt that I knew the characters more (after reading the first book) or if the author's slight change in writing style and her inclusion of more details and background information made me more at ease with accepting the flow of this book--but, I actually liked this book more than the first of the series. If you enjoy more mild science fiction/ space operas with romantic elements--this series is one for your summer reading list. I also look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author or publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In book 1, Horizon, the story ended with Caeli safely away from her home planet of Almagest. It could have ended there, but Caeli was not really the kind of person who would have wanted to leave her friends in a bad situation. So Infinity is the story of Caeli going home.

The situation has become quite bad. Marcus, the Amathi leader/dictator, has imprisoned the Novali and is going after the resistance. He has sold one of the Novali children to a slaver and intends to sell more. You can imagine what an unscruplous person would want to do with someone who could read minds or heal/hurt with their mind. Marcus is the kind of villian everyone loves to hate. Truth be told, he seems to be setting up his world for revolution while blindly following his own agenda.

Caeli’s journey home and the ensuing revolution is one of the most emotion-filled sci fi stories I’ve read lately. Ms. Lord has really focused on the characters and their relationships and their feelings, without sacrificing any of the needed plotting and action. Action like spying and rescuing and getting captured and a battle for the cause. Derek and his team join the cause even though it is not their world. There are political reasons for this, but it is also the right thing to do. Derek and Caeli have become a team, both romantically and in saving the world. They also have some really great people on their team, both from the world of Almagest and from the Horizon.

I said this when I reviewed Horizon and it still holds true for Infinity. I like how much of the Almagest history is unknown, lost in a war. In Infinity, some of Almagest’s history and the beginnings of the Novali is revealed through computer logs. But not all. I can still theorize all I want. Will my theories prove true or not? I am going to have to read the next book in the series!

The ending of Infinity is both satisfying and full of questions. Plus there is a teaser for the next book. 5 stars for Infinity and…..next book please!

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. I had read the first book in this series, Horizon, and was looking forward to reading this one.

As I had hoped, Derek and Caeli return to the planet Almagest with a team. It was discovered that Marcus, the leader of Almagest, has started trading Novali children to other planets. So, unofficially, the Alliance has sent the team to help the resistance.

The members of the resistance have been through a lot but they're strong and determined and with the team from the Alliance, they're hoping things might turn around. It really doesn't look promising but they work with what they have. There's a lot of suspense especially when members of the resistance go into town for one reason or another.

One thing that kept running through my mind as I read Infinity was what if they are successful at overthrowing Marcus and beginning a new stable government? What will Derek and Caeli do? I couldn't believe that Caeli would leave her home again but, on the other hand, how could Derek give up his position?

Infinity is full of action, drama, and love. I like Tabitha's writing style and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The story gets better with the addition of Infinity to the Horizon series. The action starts within the first few pages. I think I'm in love with Derek now. His character was trying to recover in the last book. Now he's back in action. The pace of this book is really good. I was on the edge of my seat. I freaked my brother out a couple times. I was sitting on the couch and had a moment, and he rushed to me asking what was the matter (because I was holding my chest and the book on the floor). When I told him why I freaked, he rolled his eyes and left. Some people just don't appreciate a good plot!

I am shipping Derek and Caeli so bad. The friendship, relationship; bond they have is so strategically played that for brief moments while reading, I saw them acting before me. I wish I could say that I saw their faces, but I didn't. I haven't had much visualization while reading recently, but maybe after reading the books again, I might. Check out this series! I am highly positive you will enjoy it.

MY RATING: 4.5 OF 5 STARS.

Building on the tension in Horizon, Tabitha Lord’s second novel, Infinity, brings a whirlwind of action, political unrest, and romance.

Infinity is packed with so much action that it was hard to put this book down. In fact, I breezed through this novel in two sittings – it was so good! I may actually like it better than Horizon! I loved the fact that Caeli got a bit of rest for her soul while staying with Derek’s family before having to go back into battle on her home planet. And their relationship was so sweet, how they both cared for one another through all the struggle, even enough to let each other go at times. Infinity ends with quite the set-up for a third installment of this series, and I’m excited to see where this story goes next.

I would like to make a point to say this book might not be suited for children due to multiple sexual encounters in this novel, including an act of rape.

I was graciously provided a free copy of this novel from iRead Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

The Alliance has heard about Caeli’s people and has decided that they need to protect them so Caeli and Derek return to Almagest. They learn that Marcus has decided to control her people and has been selling the children into slavery. Caeli and Derek meet up with the resistance, some of Caeli’s people and some of Marcus’ that know what he is doing is wrong. It’s going to be a battle but if they win freedom is the best reward.

I have to say after reading Horizon I was left wanting. This is what I was missing. Caeli has become a doctor and her relationship with Derek is strong. Once the Alliance has heard about Caeli’s people and what they can do of course they are going to step in and stop Marcus. Although they don’t have a plan they are met with the resistance and know that is the best place to begin.

This story has love, action, lose, and the worse that people could do to others. There is something for everyone and I really enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to see what else Tabitha Lord is going to come up with.

I received Infinity from iRead Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

I really enjoyed Infinity, the second book in Tabitha Lord’s Horizon series.

My only regret is not reading it sooner after the first one. I’ve seen some critique that it’s tough for new-to-the-series readers to pick up on all the character relationships and world-building details. That wasn’t a huge issue for me, especially because I find those heavy-handed reminders grating -- just read the preceding book(s) already and let the rest of us enjoy this one! However, I liked the characters and the world(s) so much, I wished I had more detail fresh in my mind.

The on-planet drama central to the Infinity’s plot was well-done. It felt dystopian without being too traumatizing or depressing. I especially liked the development of Finn’s character, who wrestles with guilt over his past as the resistance movement adopts him as their leader.

Caeli and Derek’s relationship still felt too perfect for me. Maybe it’s because they’re in a traumatic, survival-focused situation most of the time and don’t have the luxury of noticing each others’ flaws, but I want to see them butt heads a couple times. The telepathic element could play into this: does Derek ever try to conceal an emotion from Caeli, but she feels it anyway? That kind of thing.

But overall this book felt similar to watching The Orville for me: characters I care about, socially conscious plot with a little lightness, doesn’t get bogged down in technical details. Looking forward to the third book.

If you thought book one was good you are going to love this one! This one has that spirit that we all look for in well done books and this one had it in spades. I really loved that the author didnt rehash everything from book one and we just got to jump in with the characters and get on with the story. This is another wonderful story from Lord that I will be rereading int he furture. This series would be for fans of Firefly/Serenity and those who really just love space/planets. You can see how much the author has grown just from book one to this one. The action, chracters, and story come together to create an out of world story.

This is the second book in the Horizon. See the review for Book 1: Horizon by clicking on the title.

The world building in the first book really paid off in Book 2. I enjoyed the book and I could just jump right in on the action. The crew was amazing and definitely gave off a Firefly (Joss Weadon) vibe. The conflict in the first book is amped up in the second novel and climaxes explosively. With messages of freedom and tyranny strewn through the book there is obvious social commentary. Overall, a great sequel to the first book that played off of  the world building and conflict introduced in Book 1.

Exciting with an intriguing plot

Throughly enjoyed this second novel continuing the story of Almagest, a planet whose citizens are in conflict due to a cruel and misguided leader who led his military to commit genocide on the minority’s populace. In this sequel, Marcus, the leader, starts trading some of the survivors of the minority race, the Novali, who have special gifts. In this way he gains technology and weapons to further control his people. In this novel the conflict is resolved and we see Almagest move into the space age.

All Hail the Sequel:

Tabitha Lord's sophomore sci-fi novel builds on the success of the first book. However, this time, she uses more creative liberties than shorthand to shape the world and conflict, and it pays off. One of my favorite parts of this novel is the short sequence in which the backstory of the protagonist's home planet is — revealed throughout the book in the form of captain's logs and email chains; this succinct series demonstrates Tabitha Lord's impressive world-building abilities. Can't wait for what she does next!

The adventures continue for Derek & Caeli. The battle to free Caeli's world from Marcus boils over and lives will never be the same. But wait, the cliffhanger ending just makes you want the third book that much more. You know the characters so well now you're on pins and needles waiting for the outcome.

Well, I can't say whether I enjoyed or hated reading this book. I look for some science in a science fiction. There is a hint of science in this book, even though not developed fully. This book is the second book of the series, but I can't say whether reading the first book will help.

Too many characters make sudden appearances in the beginning and throughout the book. Whether you read the first book in the series or not, it may not help in having a full inventory in place. Perhaps, a list of characters and locations could have helped. But it does not matter. Most of the characters come and disappear; none is fully developed to stand out.

The plot is feeble at best. A planet-wide strife is reduced to the level of a skirmish in a military facility. One man seems to run everything. He shoots at unsuspecting crowds, directs the search for dissenters and oversees the sales of goods to interplanetary traders. There is a bit of history, which though said in few words, seems to have a more engaging plot, as well as a bit more science. There is an abandoned city in ruins, which offers an interesting twist, but was soon forgotten.

We have earth like planet, with two moons. Nothing more is said about this world, Almagest. Maybe the first book has more details about it. There are two cities or habitations in this world. One populated by regular people, Amathi who have a dictator to run the show. Another place has descendants of a genetically modified people, an experiment that was carried out one thousand years back. The Novali are the genetic mutants and have special powers. They can read other people's minds, they can heal injured, and sick people and they are highly empathic. So, they are peaceful, and therefore they got almost wiped out after a genocide - the story of the first book.

This book continues the story of a small group of Amathi dissenters and Novali survivors ganging up with a small group of interplanetary guests to overthrow the dictator. Nothing is bordering novelty here. As said, it is just a minor street fight.

What is interesting is a few genetic modifications that can give such powers. How does that happen? Perhaps the first book has some explanation, but it is sorely missing here. Or is this information reserved for a future book in the series?

Infinity is direct sequel from Horizon. So, it was really advised for you to read Horizon (book one) first before this one. If you like Horizon, no doubt you will also like Infinity. The mission from Horizon continue in this book. You get the same main characters with same supporting characters. In addition, you get more background about the characters. But I have to warned though that the story was more action oriented in this one.

This book combined both missions between saving Caeli planet from Marcus and prevent outside forces (I forget the name) from annihilating it. The story was faster in this one since it is direct sequel.

Unfortunately, I don't really like the ending. It was quite predictable for my liking. You kind of expected some twist but it was none. But, fortunately the cliff hanger saved the ending. Well, I hope you know what I mean ^^. I really recommend this book for people who like to read planetary science fiction.

When I picked up Tabitha Lord's second novel in the series of three, I was super excited. She had just visited our school, local area of libraries, students, and spent alot of time sharing her experiences as a science fiction author with young students.

I found it difficult to get into the beginning events of where Infinity picked up from Horizon, but realized, this was due to the lapse I had had in reading the first segment of this series. A third of the way through I was back on Almagest and the characters of Caeli and Derek came front and center again. I truly like the real-life situations that can come out of this novel, and look forward to the third novel soooon. There is something exciting about discovering a new novel and a new series, and this is one to be excited about with real pull out topics that can be disseminated and discussed that align with today's every changing situations and events as well.
