Як не прикро визнавати, однак ця книга, за якою ми із сином старанно полювали, — найслабша з усієї серії Мартіна Содомки (а у нас — весь комплект). Ілюстрації, як завжди, — чудові. Докладно показано етапи спорудження будинку від архітектурного планування до новосілля, подані схеми з розрахунками та підписами, змальовані характерні герої, у яких так приємно впізнавати знайомих із попередніх книг.

Однак у тексті про саме будівництво дому інформації мінімум. Більшість уваги приділена, можна сказати, "нудним дорослим" проблемам: як узяти кредит у банку, як зекономити на будівництві, як дотриматися норм і правил забудови ділянки, що робити, коли тебе підставив чиновник і ти отримав припис знести вже збудоване, де і в кого шукати парвди та справедливості... Відчувалося, що авторвоі боліли саме ці питання, однак книга ж — для дітей! Син хотів дізнатися, як збудувати дім, натомість отримав відомості про те, що бувають хитрі і ще хитріші люди (це, звісно, також цінна інформація, проте...), а мама, цебто я, намагалася по змозі таки розібратися в тих схемах та малюнках і своїми словами розказати, як усе-таки збудувати той дім. На пальцях, ага))) Підозрюю, що треба підключати дідуся, бо книга, на жаль, не про це...

This is an entertaining and informative picture book for science-minded early elementary schoolers who like learning how things are made, and who wish to know all the vocabulary associated with erecting buildings. We used this book as part of a kindergarten unit on materials, and it made a big impression on my five-year-old, to the point that she now frequently requests to watch Bob Vila videos on YouTube.

Lovely illustrations including actual Drafted house plans. I particularly appreciated that level of detail. A bit vague on the building services - Only electrical- ? No plumbing or heating or water softeners or anything else? A solid kids book, never the less. And it does try to show that a house building venture is a group project needing skills from various talents and affects all the potential inhabitants. Some of whom might not feel included if only one person calls all the shots. Design lesson 101 - Not everybody thinks like you. Nicely done.

Looking at it, I thought it would be too long for my kids to sit through, but the characters and the promise of a house at the end kept them engaged well enough to learn a bit about construction. This is the 4th book, but I didn’t know that when I picked it, so we’ll have to read the others.

My boys (8 and 10) really enjoyed this story about some animal friends that learn not only about house construction but also about friendship.

An absolutely great book but it is not appropriate for the American market! I absolutely love the other "How To..." books by Saskia Lacey but this one describes a construction method that was only used very rarely in the US and that has not been used since the 1940s. Any N. American kid, who has watched buildings being built or helped when his family members built any building even a shed, will quickly become very confused! What a shame US publishers just directly published a European book without determining if it was culturally relevant! Same goes for the public libraries who bought a book unseen and wasted valuable resources doing so. I don't recommend this book to anyone except perhaps a parent with construction experience who can explain the differences to the kid. That is a shame because it is so well done. I do love this series!

Specifically this book describes a method of making a nearly complete masonry structure including the floor joists. The electric is routed into the masonry structure and plaster is applied directly to the masonry walls. The building does not include any insulation at all despite the snow falling during its construction which obviously Europeans use today as well as N. Americans.

Despite all these negatives, this series is absolutely the best at creating a fun story about how to build things. The illustrations are fantastic with all items being labeled with their names, a vast list of new vocabulary words. Just looking at the illustrations can provide a child hours of instructional entertainment!

3.25 stars I enjoyed this book talking about the intricacies of building a house, but at a 3rd grade level! Nice illustrations, a story and facts is always fun...but it has mice in it and I hate mice. There are other animals but when you talk about even cute mice that build houses...I am turned off....Mice tails in any form is icky! But it is my opinion...

Pokračovanie príbehu o tom, ako si Arny postavil auto. V knižke je detailne opísaná stavba domu. Od získavania pozemku a hypotéky, cez problémy s úradmi a susedmi až po kolaudáciu. Všetko je podporené krásnymi ilustráciami a technickými nákresmi.
