The List

Rate this book
We love the chase, thrive on the hunt, but hate the entanglement. So we created The List.

The List - a top secret database of New York’s hottest women. As one of four entrepreneur billionaires who devised it, I live by its rules.

The formula is simple. If any of us sleeps with a girl, we are obligated to add her name, address, and kinks to The List. When another one of us has an urge for a certain type of woman, we simply pull up the list, make a selection, and find our prey.

It sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Well, for years it has been.

But now something’s different.

Riley Carson is different. The soft brunette has woken a part of me I didn’t know existed, a part of me that could be dangerous.

I don’t do girlfriends, but for the first time in my life, I’ve met a woman I don’t want to put on The List. A woman I want to keep to myself.

I have new desires. New cravings. New problems, like betrayal, or even worse, exposure.

Our wealth and reputations are on the line. A scandal would ruin us all.

Riley Carson may very well be our downfall... mine, most of all.

One words: doormat
And this: "There was no getting away until HE made the decision and cut the thread. " Oookkkk, doormat

From the hero: "I understand that, but that doesn't mean you should be a doormat. " Yep.. the man noticed it. Can you imagine how bad her "doormatness" is?

Another from the hero: "You're capable of making decisions. Remember?" The hero caught up on her "doormatness" again.

This heroine was incapable of denying anything to the hero. He treated her like an object and she always fell back into his arms. After spending the night in his house, the next morning he treated her coldly and
after she just woke up: Hero: "I need to get going"
Heroine: The tone of his voice made me stand up straight:'Sorry, I didn't know you were running late '
He walked across the room, his gaze on the floor. As he passed by me, it was like an arctic chill follow in his wake.Something was very wrong. ". I know what's wrong. I picked up pretty quick on it. Your lacking of self respect is something that's very wrong , from starters.
There are many, many more sentences showing her lack of self respect and will power.
She was always giving in to him. In the same weak, spineless way. But believe me: they had their hea.

I'm sorry but in what universe is a blurb like this ever sexy? Hero sounds absolute disgusting. Completely baffles me that a freaking woman wrote this.

I liked this premise; I really did. It had such potential, and then it fizzled. Well, maybe the story didn't fizzle, but my like for it did.

The heroine: let's just talk about Riley for a second. I love that she found a backbone in the course of the story. I don't like that her backbone made her stupid. She does something so colossally idiotic, it ruins her character. I go from mildly annoyed by her to wincing in that "how could you be so stupid" way.

After that, all the sweet endings in the world couldn't save it for me.

I love what the author tried to do. Flipping the hero upside down, making him see the error of his sexist ways when he had no idea the way he'd been living was a complete contradiction. That was cool.

But even that couldn't erase Riley's dumbassity.

I'm sure the author was trying to show what a badass she created, but when your badass female places herself knowingly in a situation where she has to be saved by her alpha lover, it deflates the gesture.

And I know I harp on this, but authors: STOP ENDING SENTENCES WITH "AT!" It's poor grammar and a major star-reducer to many of us. (Well, maybe just to me)

Oh well. Another book with stellar reviews didn't sit well with me. I know, shocker.

DNF..I'm seriously struggling with this book. I feel like I've been reading a long time, but only at 19%.

I'm struggling to get character connection, finding the storyline underwhelming and listless

I decided to read this book because of all the rave reviews. I didn't get the same excitement or intrigue.

First off the book was a short story not a book since it was only 26%. That's not a book. Sorry. I skipped most of the book after the third chapter. I didn't see the attraction or the chemistry that brought Riley and Xavier together.
Riley fell in love with Xavier so quickly I don't understand why? Why??? There relationship was all physical, she hardly knew anything about Xavier except that he was great in the sack and owned a multibillion dollar company. Really and you fall in love. Really!!!

Okay, this book started off really good. I liked
the premise, and I was able to connect to
both Riley and Xavier....until I couldn't.

I really don't know wth happened or why I
was so bored, or why I had absolutely no
interest in continuing their story, but I'm
going to give it a shot.

Riley was a door mat. D O O R M A T. She
got worse, and more needy as the story
went on, and I just cringed at some of the
stupid decisions she made. Xavier was
so yummy at first, until you get inside
his mind and see that nothing is really
there. He uses woman on the regular,
caring really nothing about them. His
internal dialogue is what really made
me give this book such a low score.
He seemed to know everything that
was wrong with him. Like why he
couldn't commit, why he didn't talk
to mommy, why he was where he was
in his life. I mean this guy should
have been a psychologist. With this
huge wealth of knowledge about how
his mind works, why was he such a
douche? uuuggg

The story very quickly fell flat, Xavier
became boring and I was hoping for
an unhappy ending for Riley. (anybody
this stupid deserves what they get)

I don't think I will be reading anymore
from this author. This book felt like
it was mostly boring filler. But hey, I
could have had a bad reading day so
buy and decide for yourself....but be
warned!! :)

Riley Caron was simple and let everyone around her make her decision, she was always indecisive. Riley went to college but she always wanted to be a bakery owner. She worked 2 jobs, a bakery and in a bar. Riley wanted her manger at Crumbs to notice her so she took all the hours and the impossible task, to get promoted to work with the chef to learn all the in's and out's of baking but never got notice. That was until Ann Marie received an invitation to Enigma a BDSM club. While at Enigma Riley had felt a magnetic force pulling her towards the 2nd tier just above her, a mysterious stranger watching her with his piercing gaze. She felt her heartbeat double and blood rushing through her just from his stare, and turned her head from blushing then he was gone.

Xaiver Fields had a past he wanted no one to know, he was smart on deans list but never went to college. At 17 he left home and never looked back now he was a billionaire in charge of a empire due to so smart buys and now him and 3 others own Enigma. We put every girl we sleep with on a list so all we had to do is look for kinks we were interested in and find our prey. We all had something to lose, well at least Julian, Davis and myself we were all billionaires with our own empires except for Davis spoiled rich cousin Seth who hasn't worked a day in his life.

I don't do girlfriends but I want Riley like I wanted no other, which is confusing because who wants to be like my parents, I don't want to put Riley on that list I want her for myself, but Seth has seen us together and now I have to make a decision

This was to put it quite simply, plain awfyl. I have no inkling as to why the author thought it would be a good idea to make the FMC's character so whiny and annoying lacking absolutely any self worth and a total doormat.

Riley and Xavier are one toxic couple if I have seen any, I am apalled that she just fell in love with him despite him being such a "playboy". Her friend was the only sensible person in the room and it was sad that she didn't listen to her.

The way her boss talks to her is so weird as well and she just takes it all silently I mean I am baffled honestly. And then there comes Xavier who asks her to "not" be a doormat and then proceeds to make her one himself. How does that even make sense? The database thing was absolutely disgusting and I don't think it gave the plot an edgy feel or whatever, I can't fathom someone actually liking such a person let alone falling in love with one.

I was seething with rage for most part of the book which sadly means a long long time and I wish this book disappears from existence soon.

The only reason this book got 2 stars instead of 1 is because I HAD to know how things were going to blow up and how Xavier was going to talk his way out of it once things did blow up.

Best thing about the book...buddy reading it with Nikki!

Worst thing...pretty much everything else. It was an intriguing concept, but it wasn't executed in the best way. There were so many missed opportunities.

Outstanding

5 Star Kindle Unlimited Read
I'm almost positive that Alice Ward out did herself with this on.

I love a strong female lead. However, when you put yourself in obvious danger, I have to question the intelligence of the character. Although, I understand it was the damsel in distress/white knight syndrome playing out. I think I would have liked to Shane get more coming to him. In addition, I would have fancied the other two business partners/buddies get their own book. In the end, they all grew up.

I really enjoyed reading ‘The List’ by Alice Ward, it was full of heat, romance and of course of two unlikely characters that soon fall for each other. A good 4 star read.

Xavier has never wanted nor did he ever think he would want to settle down. That is one of the reasons why he and three of his friends created a list of women and their sexual preferences so that they knew who to hook up with when they wanted to. Only when Xavier meets Riley do things change for him and he finally has met someone he doesn’t want to put on the list as he wants her for himself and that is a feeling that he has never had to face before.

I had mixed emotions about this book to start with as I wasn’t sure how Xavier was going to be able to redeem himself and I felt that Riley was a bit too much of a push over. However the more I read the more the characters changed and evolved into the characters that I couldn’t get enough of. This turned out to be yet another great book by Alice Ward.

*sighs* I started off and thinking yay I have a good book that sounds good and then maybe 4 chapters in, I just couldn't focus. Nope no just wasn't happening for me. I liked Riley and then I ended up not liking her. She was too damn annoying to getting her own way and all to do with a stupid list that Xavier (he's an ass but he's a HOT ass) *winks* and his friends created gave in too easily but the story kind of dwindled my happy reading after that.

Xavier and Riley's love scenes could cause spontaneous combustion! I wanted to rush through the book to find out what happens next but then a slowed down because I didn't want the book to end! Now, of course, I have a case of the "book hangovers". I loved this book because Xavier was having trouble with his family's transgressions (past & present). Riley seems gun shy to love after a harsh break up with a guy she thought she was in love with. Together they have try to "fix" each other. Excellent read!

What a beautiful story written with perfection. The author made me feel with precision at every turn, bringing tears to my eyes more than a few times. It's been a long time since I've picked up a perfect novel and felt so involved. 10 full stars and I can't wait to leave my voluntary 5-star review on Amazon for this ARC when the novel goes live. The List was a pleasant surprise on my Amazon similarities. The blurb was intriguing. I read through some of the reviews and was sold. I had no idea that I would love this book as much as I did. At 1st, I thought The List would be similar to the movie, The Loft. The blurb had a certain quality that reminded me of that movie, but this book was different. It had hot romance with sizzling chemistry.
One of my favorite book concepts is when a arrogant man is brought down to his knees by that one woman who captures his heart. It's always the men who think that they are such pimps, who fall the hardest. I knew this book wouldn't disappoint.

I loved the whole hot and cold between Riley and Xavier. It kept things interesting. One second they were screwing each other's brains out, and then the next, Xavier was trying to fight his feelings. His mood swings were giving me whiplash. Riley was way too nice at first, but I'm so glad that she didn't run behind Xavier. And in the end this, the situation gave her a backbone and taught  Riley to stand up for herself.

The character growth was amazing. It was my favorite part of this book, and that's not something I comment on a lot. By the end, I found  myself rooting for this couple and very proud of their decisions and growth.

This was such a wonderful story. I enjoyed the roller coaster ride that I got to experience with this couple.
There was a surprise at the end. A short story of Xavier's other compadre, who was also a part of the list. I'm dying to see how he will fall to his knees, too.

I recommend this book to anyone that loves steamy romance with the conflict of cocky men and their pimpish schemes.

Xavier and Riley- wow! I really enjoyed their love. It was awesome getting to know their love in this story. Xavier Fields is successful in life but when it comes to women, not so much-he goes thru women like paper and when he is done, he ‘s done yet when he meets Riley Carson, something about her is very different and he wants to get to know her . Riley is working two jobs to get ahead and was recently burned in a bad relationship when she meets Xavier at Enigma. The chemistry is electric hot between these two and I loved how the story woven around them. Xavier found that pull but everything kept coming back to Riley.
This story has it which kept me hooked-passion, hope, secrecy, betrayal , drama and definitely a bit of suspense. If you love a book that has all that, then this is the one for you. Xavier was a bit of a jerk when the book started but by the end, he was a right alpha hero and I loved that about him. Riley was a sassy woman who was perfect for Xavier. I don’t want to say too much about this story except this book has it all and you will definitely need to read this. Especially to find out how the "List" got started..its a real doozy

My rating: 4.6 stars ****

Xavier's confession and the epilogue saved this book for me. I like this author but this story didn't really do it for me.

Xavier was a hard, calculating man, oblivious to his own feelings and the consequences and interpretation of his actions. Riley helped to open his eyes about all those things. He turned out pretty good. I liked him in the end. His confession was raw and so totally sweet.

Riley started out as a sweet, genuine girl who also happened to be unaware of her role as a doormat at work. In general, though, she was a bit unsure of herself and bases decisions on the reactions of others, which isn't all bad, it just means she comes off as a bit insecure. She began to gain confidence and stand up for herself, but that turned more into defiance than actual self-assuredness. Like by making a rash decision she was somehow being decisive and confident when she's actually just being overly emotional and impetuous and allowing that to dictate her actions instead of thinking things through and making the best choice. That pretty much carried throughout and I found myself growing tired of her.

Overall, their relationship was dysfunctional and they could probably use some counseling, both separately and together. I'd like to have seen this as a series based on the men who dealt with the list, but the epilogue was okay in giving an idea of how things went for Davis and Julian. The writing was good, the premise was interesting, the book itself wasn't bad at all, I just didn't like the relationship and Riley s evolution.

I willingly read and reviewed this book as an ARC from both Hidden Gems and the author.

This book dragged me into a whirlwind of emotions. I just loved how the characters fully developed as the book unfolded under my eyes. Xavier, a very handsome and rich man has made a pact with his fellow friends that is they made a list of all the women with whom they had a fling and just like a game, they pass these women to one another . So life is pretty smooth for Xavier, women coming and going, a successful job with the only exception of having a miserable past . On the contrary, life has a way of changing things and soon Xavier will meet the love of his life even if he tries with all his strength to push her out of his comfort zone. Riley is an enchanting woman, full of good feelings who will let Xavier’s wall fall down. Their affinity is toxic and their mutual issues could let them risk their love but one knows that a strong and fierce love can overcome any sort of obstacle and at the end they will both have their happy ending. A wonderful book, full of intense moments that will leave the reader speechless. An intricate story worth reading. I highly recommend it.

It took a lot for me to like Xavier. I have personal experience that says arrogant jerks don't make good romantic heroes. I really loved that we got to see him making the changes necessary, that Riley made him work for his happy ending. I'm a little frustrated that it wasn't until the very end our hero had his epiphany and goes from prime jackass to Prime Charming. He's so used to doing what he pleases and getting everything he desires, it's a lot of fun to watch him get told "no" for a change. I really appreciate that both main characters have their flaws. I loved seeing them work to overcome their hang-ups, especially seeing Riley stand up for herself and assert her opinion. I really enjoyed the chemistry with the secondary characters and adored the epilogue that let's us know what happens in their lives too.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

In what world is the premise of this book even okay?!
Universities and fraternities are constantly having to deal with the legal issues this kind of sexual harassment brings up. Just do a quick internet search and you’ll find plenty of examples of the legalities around this kind of exploitation.
Yuck!

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

There were big parts of this book that i liked, but there were parts that just did not feel right to me.

Xavier for instance took far too long to work out what he was doing wrong and to make the changes required. He also had self-rightousness to him that wasn't for me.

Riley gave into him too easily and when she did develop a backbone it was all of a sudden and completely different to the woman she was.

The story is fast paced and has some good supporting characters along with some characters that you can get behind and hate.

Not sure if i will read this book again.

This was a good book that I enjoyed reading. This book was well written and has good well developed characters. Xavier and Riley was amazing chemistry together. HOLY MOLY! I was dumb struck by this book. Xavier and his friends Davis and Julian and Seth are some seriously twisted guys. They make a contract, more like a pact with each other that every time they have sex with a woman they add her to the list. Name, hair color, build, what their like and what they like to do in bed and what their good at for instance if she's into BDSM or she just likes it rough or she really likes oral sex. Then whenever one of them needs a date for an event or just wants sex or even if they just want a BJ they check the list to find who or what they're looking for. Kind of like a shopping list. But the rules are that unless you plan to keep her as a girlfriend you're supposed to add her to the list after you get her in bed. The first time Xavier sees Riley with her friend Ann-Marie in the club he and his friends own. He knows there's something special about her so he introduces himself and when he kisses her it scares her and she runs away. She's afraid to get into another relationship with anyone because the last one she got her heart broken. Not to mention that she knows that Xavier is probably a player. But then when he tracks her down at one of her jobs she decides to go out with him and she goes all the way with him thinking it's gonna be a one night stand. And their relationship just continues to grow from there but Xavier is keeping secrets from Riley and he runs hot and cold with her which starts to freak her out. So when Riley finally grows a backbone and tells him what she wants it ends their relationship. Then Seth, out of dumb and dumber is the dumbest of them all just so happens to see them together and questions Xavier about her and more or less forces him to put Riley on the list and with extreme reluctance he does. When Seth take her out and let's it slip about the list Riley comes looking for Xavier with a vengeance. And after everything he has put her through she still wants him. By this point I'm screaming at my Kindle and practically pulling my hair out because I can't believe she'd be so freakin stupid. No man is worth that, I don't care if he is a multimillionaire. Well, maybe then. Lol! (just kidding). The chemistry between Xavier and Riley is nothing like either of them has ever felt and can't or refuses to let go of. I have to say this book doesn't end how I'd have expected but it was so beautiful. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
