Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.

Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.

The Gokage did pretty well against Madara, considering he was an immortal pile of dirt with infinite chakra and Hashirama’s abilities at his disposal, while they were still abiding to the old, consistent power scaling. And that should tell us a lot since most of this fight happened offscreen, as it was sidelined in favor of the other two major fights happening at the same time. Yes, they will lose, and that too will unceremoniously happen offscreen, but that’s understandable since they’re literally fighting against the plot itself. They didn’t fail as characters, it’s Kishimoto that failed them as their writer. Though, not as bad as Mashima failed his Ten Wizard Saints or Kubo his Zero Division.

However, this volume was not good at all. The Perfect Susanoo makes no fucking sense, it’s just another unnecessary Uchiha asspull. Madara knowing the Edo Tensei signs also makes no sense whatsoever. He should have been released along with the other revived shinobi since the plot would bring him back by other means anyway. As much as I like him as a villain, Orochimaru should have stayed dead. He’s literally back just for the plot, a plot that could have simply used Kabuto instead. Whatever it is that Sasuke intends to do, he could use his mind control genjutsu on Kabuto to do it. And finally, what was even the point of this war if Tobi could have revived Ten Tails without Gyuki and Kurama? Knowing that he could have done it anytime renders the first half of this arc pointless. What was the fucking point of having an all out war if this is where the real conflict starts?

I must admit, I like Madara as a villain. He's overpowered, blabbers incessantly and makes illogical decisions, but his ferocity and sheer might are a delight. While the plot holes of this volume are glaringly obvious and most of what's happening doesn't make much sense, I was still happy to just go with the flow and admire the battles. Tsunade gets her well-deserved moment to shine, along with other kages, and even the return of Orochimaru leaves me more intrigued than put upon by the inconsistency of it.
Also, the figth between Naruto supported by Kurama and Kakashi vs Tobi is cool as!

Now that the Edo Tensi's are dispelled and Madara has resurrected himself, it's still way past time to find a way to take Tobi out. Getting closer, too, except for that little pesky ten-tails...

I like this volume because it still propels the story forward, but it's better when you already know the secret.

my name is sasuke uchiha and i'm determined to burn the world down because after sixty volumes i still haven't grasped the idea of acknowledging when i'm wrong and changing my plans

to be fair, i'm sure kishimoto's going somewhere with his whole 'i want the truth!!!' thing but like. i could excuse the destroy konoha thing in the moment as a product of trauma and feeling lost but he's had more than enough time and information to reconsider. stop being a butt sasuke

also while i still think saint itachi was a fundamentally flawed storyline to pursue i won't lie, i still found his story this volume touching

in conclusion: where is sakura, it's been the uchiha-uzumaki power hour for like ten volumes now

I hated this episode. It started with being extremely extremely melodramatic with all those hip talk of Tsuchikaga and Dan-Tsunade meeting . But then it changed and changed so well. Be it the revival of Orochimaro or the Tobi-Kakashi and co arc. We were this close , this close to the great reveal ; my tear glads were almost almost leaking and Naruto needs to barge in. I think Kakashi's arc is the next best post Konan-Nagato-Yahiko's arc. Excited :))

With Edo Tensei now undone, it looks like things are heading towards an end-point as the plots are being tied up! Except, of course, Sasuke now going off on some new subplot that we have never heard of and that doesn't sound exciting. But the Madara and Tobi plots are wrapping up! We finally get a hint as to who Tobi is, or at least how he works, as their plot progresses nicely. I don't love this arc and I eagerly await the ending but at least there's some forward momentum now- and some honestly touching moments at the start between Itachi/Sasuke and Tsunade/Dan!

The one in which I realize that the entire Uchiha clan is honestly just the fucking worst. If you'd told me that Itachi would be the most tolerable one in the beginning of the series, I wouldn't have believed that any of them could be tolerable.

Also the one in which I sort of miss Bad Guy Snake Guy but then they resurrect Bad Guy Snake Guy and I remember that he's fucking awful.

The 4th ninja world war continues, Itachi defeats the revival technique and so all souls are departing and then good moment between Dan and Tsunade, they continue to fight MADARA, naruto and co fight tobi and more secrets about him are revealed and promises kept but the main things is what Sasuke finds and the return of Orochimaru and they going to meet some people, overall a good volume with a lot of revelations.

This is actually insane. My power went out during the middle of this volume and I was going to lose my mind bc it’s been so sad and I was like I need to finish this. It was so sad with Itachi a second time. Tears were coming out with him saying I will always love you. Like ugh, tear my heart out. Same thing for Dan coming to protect his girl as a ghost. This is getting so crazy fr

Just remembered the sleepy eyed chunin exam proctor hayate gekko from back in early naruto. Why did he die? And what's more where was he when every dead person got brought back to life with the edotensei??? I want to see him again.

The conclusion of Sasuke and Itachi's story was nice.

Okay, so the dragon Kabuto has been defeated. Itachi fulfilled his promise to Naruto but.. .. Madara overpowered the Edo Tensin Jutsu. Now he's very much alive and the five Kages have been defeated. Madara heads out to join Naruto and Tobi. Finally we know who Tobi is and it's shocking!

Well. Now I’m insanely curious about who Tobi is. But in compassion to other recent volumes, I didn’t love this one. There was a lot of action, but it felt visually messy. I had a bit of a hard time following it.

Who did it better? Houston Whitney or Uchiha Itachi? I prefer I have nothing so I'm gonna give the battle of forever love to Itachi with "I will love you always."

Uchiha Itachi is such an incredible, stupid, sympathetic, stupid, tragic, stupid, legendary character. Ever since coming back to life he's realised being mysterious isn't all that helpful to the people you're trying to save and love, so he's finally opening up. "You are a truly considerate child." I cannot refute this. I may have issues with the massacre and think there were other options. I may have issues with how Itachi handled his own brother, but I can't say he didn't have a good heart. For him, everything was hopeless and there was only one option left and he was willing to take on that burden. He took the hate of his beloved village to save his clan's reputation. It was all so terrible and tragic, but that's the kind of story that gets me.

What was he trying to show Sasuke by showing him that Hiruzen tried to find a solution, but would take action if need be, and it was Danzo who gave him the massacre mission? Does that make it any better? I can empathise with Sasuke as he is now, it is the powers that be in Konoha and the culture of the Village that led to the tragedy of Itachi's life. Although there are many innocents in the village, he'll be thinking that even innocent Uchiha children besides himself were killed. It was still three quarters of the Konoha elders who supported this plan and the ending's the same, Itachi's death.

I hate Danzo, but I truly believe he loved the village and would have done anything for it. If he had one, and it was close to rebelling, I truly believe he would kill his own clan, so it's not much for him to tell someone else to do so.

Congratulations to Masashi Kishimoto for making us cry at the death of a character, TWICE! The tearful farewell is preceded by Sasuke begging Itachi for answers. Sasuke has annoyed me more and more as he grew up but I really felt for him during these scenes. Itachi's ready to go, he's done what he needed to protect the village he loved so much and reaffirmed his self philosophy in his tete-a-tete with Kabuto, he's going out with no regrets. But Sasuke's still left here with every problem Itachi has left him with. He's inherited his eyes and past, but he's his own person so what is he going to do? "What about what you've made me become?" There is, of course, his own choice in all this, but Itachi is definitely the biggest influence in everything Sasuke is. But Itachi's going to leave it to Naruto to change him.

So Naruto's got to save Sasuke for Itachi, end hate for Jiraiya and Kurama and save Konoha for his dad. That's quite the to-do list.

Sasuke looks dejected knowing his brother isn't going to give him answers to HELP him before he leaves. Being with Itachi makes everything worse as he remembers everything he loves about him, his path of destruction just keeps becoming clearer even if it's the opposite of what his beloved brother wants. In showing Sasuke that memory, Itachi shows him it's as complicated as he thinks. He's got to get answers from the source. The ones who knew and who established the philosophy of clan, shinobi and village.

"I've always lied to you and asked you to forgive me… Deliberately keeping you at a distance by my own hand… Because I didn't want to get you caught up in any of this…But now I think… That perhaps you could have changed Father and Mother and the rest of the Uchiha…If I had only come to you from the start… looked straight into your eyes and told you the truth… With me, who failed, telling you all this from above, it's not going to penetrate and sink in. But I want to impart at least this much truth to you… you don't ever have to forgive me… and no matter what you do from here on out, know this… I will love you always." I remembered this word for word. That's how good it is.

Madara vs Gokage continues with more nonsense. As it's spread out through the past volumes, it doesn't seem like a full smackdown as I remembered in the anime. The Gokage gives him something to contend with for a while, but of course he's always got something more up his sleeve. Like the perfect Susanoo. It looks very cool. On page 24 it looks like a monk in prayer and then its full form is like a samurai. Can't fault the design. What is the susanoo, a manifestation of the soul? It has many power ups like the Sharingan. Is it the final form of an Uchiha's broken soul which must protect itself now that it has lost everything. The desire to protect awakens it, murder of love strengthens it, theft of a beloved's eyes makes it eternal and so you're left with no one because you had to kill them to get here. The perfect susanoo protects you as you live in loneliness with your broken heart.

The fact that Madara could release himself from the edo tensei, with seemingly just a release hand sign, is odd. Apparently no one else knew to do this and if there was a sequence of signs to release the jutsu, why was it one sign to take back control. Anyone you bring back, if they figured it out, could be immortal. He is immortal now because apparently he's still in an edo tensei body, he is his own controller essentially. So there was more than one option to come back to life, not just rinne rebirth. Why didn't he get Obito to steal the jutsu from Orochimaru and do this in the first place. Also, most people come back to life in the age they died at, Madara survived to old age. Is it Kabuto's modifications?

The main fight is Naruto, Kakshi, Gai, Bee, Gyuki and Kurama vs Tobi and that statue. Tobi is not a Madara, he's all emotion. He comes for Naruto and Kakshi, in a quite childish way. He's agitated by Naruto's gumption. He tries to dishearten him, but he's barking up the wrong tree. Naruto has Kurama, the former embodiment of hatred, singing his virtues. He is not one to be disheartened, Tobi's not the first to try.

Of course Tobi's got to get to Naruto. He's a zealot and Naruto is an obstinate non-believer because Naruto's got his own dream and Tobi's isn't going to supplant that. Tobi, though, is not a cult leader. He espouses this new world of peace in dreams because he truly believes in it. He was a sufferer on Earth purportedly saved by the words of the master who had the TRUTH, Madara. Madara is the cult leader; the man who believes himself a prophet, blessed with the power and knowledge that makes him better than everyone, to save all of humanity with his grand plan. Tobi, his greatest disciple.

The fight itself is great. Everyone shines. Gai with his dragon scale nunchucks, Kakshi figuring it all out with his assists, Bee/Gyuki with the power and Naruto spearheading it all. He looked fabulous in his fox form with Kurama taking over. It's great to see Kakshi and Gai fight as they're more imaginative and have greater style because they're not just throwing pure power at people, especially my beloved Gai. They all work together in one coordinated attack, which was so fun to watch as you see it play by play afterwards, which allows Kakshi to realise something about Tobi. Their ocular jutsu are linked and Tobi keeps letting it slip that he knows intimate things about Kakashi and Gai. Who is he? I always thought it was subtler than the Fourth Hokage reveal but it becomes very apparent as we see Tobi more. The jutsu give it away.

"The only thing I'm interested in right now is your young body my dear Sasuke." Oh yeah, he's back. Honestly, they could have done what they needed to do by putting Kabuto under genjutsu so what was the point of resurrecting him from his horcrux?

This is a review of the entire series.

Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people.

Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world.

Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child.

On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time.

Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers.

Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption.

Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes.

The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes.

The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on.

On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story.

Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc...

Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.

You know I usually have pretty terrible luck in the sense that all my favorite characters die. But this is the first series where my favorite character died TWICE. It was heart breaking the first time Itachi died, but the second time was just devastating. Not only does he get to be awesome, but he also gets to resolve things with Sasuke a little bit. I cried AGAIN. Whether it was my first time reading it, or re-reading it. Knowing it's coming doesn't change anything and it's absolutely devastating.

Holy fucking shit. Kishimoto is by far one of the best mangaka to ever write endless battles, characters, backstories, things coming full circle, ect. He creates a whole world and that’s all I need in a fantasy story. I don’t think they classify it as a fantasy but it most definitely is. We’ve been introduced to probably 200 or so characters(at least) because Naruto is so long and they meet new people with every mission, and even not on missions, and the war... I need that so I don’t get bored. He touches on what makes a human being, the reality of society, human emotions and what they can lead to, different relationships, family even if not related, personal ties, camaraderie, obligation, responsibility, loyalty, morality, morbidity, death and mourning, individuality/embracing differences, forgiveness, learning from failures, be proud of who you are, stay true to yourself and chose your own path, empathy, resolve, leaning on others when you need help and don’t be ashamed or embarrassed when you do, you’re stronger together/teamwork, ect. I could go on forever. I just love the Naruto manga so much.

Itachi undid the Edotensei. Sasuke got the goodbye he always wanted. I don’t ever remember reading or watching tv with someone saying I love you to a friend or family member, besides Itachi to Sasuke just now.
Granny Chiyo was like “looks like I can finally die.” I love her she’s a riot.

We know that the masked man is not Madara Uchiha. So I’ll be calling him Tobi again until the readers find out his real name. (Though I already know…)

Of course Madara finds the loophole and gets rid of the Edotensei grip by knowing the hand seals for that jutsu. No one should be suprised… like, at all. The Gokage let their guards down too much and too fast.

Tsunade got to see Dan again and I lost it. So sweet. She told Dan that she’s been trying to honor him and his dreams(becoming Hokage). But then he said “Thanks, Tsunade. You are fulfilling my dreams for me just fine. I’ll be waiting for you on the other side. But don’t come too quickly, you hear? For you, yourself, are my dream.” Dan’s death is the reason that there’s a jutsu medical corp now. Tsunade needed that moment for many different reasons.
I wish I could experience seeing one of my dead loved ones again too.

Of course Orochimaru wasn’t fully dead. Orochimaru’s curse marks are what horcruxs are to Voldemort. Jugo took him right out of Anko’s neck curse mark and popped the flesh into Kabuto’s stomach snake. Sasuke wants to use Orochimaru in order to see “the all-knowing.” Suigetsu thinks Orochimaru will join the war but he denied he would because it’s not “his war.”

Tobi collected one of the 8-tail’s arms, and Kinkaku and Ginkaku, who have the 9-tails’ chakra. Why do they have 9-tails chakra? Kurama ingested them and they ate his stomach lining for 2 weeks. Kurama didn’t have bile or anything in his stomach. It was just flesh. All 3 are sealed up in 2 different tools that belonged to the Sage of Six Paths. Tobi fed it to the 10-tails and now shit is going downn. Dude is causing the land to rumble just because he’s screaming.
Is it weird that I feel bad for 10-tails? They say he’s just chakra and basically a destruction machine with no emotion but it obviously looks like it’s suffering greatly. He’s just screaming and holding his head so much, with blood tears coming out of all of his eyes(lol). I wish I could post a picture of how insane it looks.

The Sage of Six Paths had said “10-tails’ full revival, would signify the end of this world.”
We found out that 10-tails is the aggregate of the chakra of all the Biju, 1-tail to 9-tails. The legend goes “He was the beginning of chakra, and a creator-god of many nations. He has many names. He drank oceans, split open the Earth, hoisted up mountains. He is the progenitor who is said to have created this very land.” But right now it won’t be at full power because Tobi doesn’t have the 8 or 9 tails’ full chakra in his possession.

We found out that Tobi has only 1 jutsu and it is the teleportation jutsu.
Kakashi is having a full blown panic attack on the battlefield rn.

I love that Kurama sticks up for Naruto now, and this time, against Tobi. HAHA.

I’m so excited to finish the series. I’m glad I took a break from Kabuto so that I can actually enjoy the story again. A whole volume about Kabuto? It was horrible. I would’ve rather dropped dead.

Well, as an older brother myself, Itachi's final conversation with Sasuke nearly broke my heart. What helped the emotional turmoil was Sakura not showing up for the entirety of volume 62, useless character and I'm not one of those people who says something like that about a character because I'm influenced by others. There are 10 volumes left, maybe she'll finally help with something of value. After the Sasuke Itachi Kabuto Orochimaru deal, Naruto and Kakashi, along with Might Guy, Killer Bee and the 2 remaining tailed beasts do their best to go against the mysterious masked character. I of course know who he is by now and am putting 2 and 2 together as Kakashi and the masked guy have something in common, what else but the eyes haha? Tobi or Obito haha the exact same, the guy was on Kakashi's team ffs

The crack is certainly a weird name for a manga volume especially considering how many perverts there are reading this series and how many perverted characters there are within the series. I am still slightly confused regarding how the teleportation jutsu works. I don't think that it's explained too well and the damage Kakashi did to Tobi's mask was a stroke of luck rather than tactical genius. Kakashi does know how to deduce very well though, I'll give him that. I was glad to see the edo tensei release and so many characters getting the closure they so much needed and deserved. Madara is certainly one of the most formidable characters and yet we don't know how the Gokage are going to take him down yet.
