First of all this organisation never ceases to hit new lows. Whenever I think I've finally grasped the depth of their wretchedness and unethical ways by which they conduct their business they do something else that's even more petty deceitful immoral.
Second this slayer Ophelia is in dire need of help get her some therapy both for her god complex and her molesting habits I really wished if some part of Teresa's consciousness would partially awaken and give this Ophelia the humble bundle she deserves and I still hope to see somthing like it in the next volume

[ Re-read in 2023. ]

Miria, Helen, Deneve and Clare are still fighting against the male Voracious Eater and in the aftermath of the battle, they have the theory that they were sent to kill the monster without expecting them to return. All of them have “awakened”, which means they’ve used their yoma power to full extent, but somehow, they could shift back to their current state.

Still, the organization low-key treats them as expendable assets, and nothing more. They’ve been watched in case they transform themselves into female voracious eaters, and so they promise to be careful, at least until they meet again.

In the second half of the volume, Clare goes into her second mission against a Voracious Eater again, only this time, it’s only her and #4, Ophelia, a sadistic claymore that doesn’t care about saving humans nor butchering yoma, she only seeks to destroy anything that’s in front of her, and the more suffering, the more she enjoys her hunting.

Honestly, these volumes are a fast read and like I said, the art style has improved a lot (or perhaps I just got used to their faces). The ambience is top notch and the action scenes are superb! I truly have to stop myself from reading more than 2 volumes a day, I cannot believe it took me this long to get into this series!

Still on track and always as good and as entertaining it was i the first volume. Maybe more action and a bit less story evolution in the last two but I love it anyway and just want to keep going!!

Claymore 6

Slasher arc was kinda wonky in the end. Graveyard arc looks spectacular.

World: The art is getting better and better, especially the creature designs, I can’t say how awed I was with the Graveyard Awakened. The world building is okay, it’s solid but there are some wonky parts, especially the reveal at the end of the Slasher arc with the powers and the plan, it’s not really smooth and kinda janky and the wording is a bit iffy making that part of the world building a bit confusing. The new piece in the Graveyard arc is also pretty solid with the visuals driving that part.

Story: The story for the Slasher arc is strong, it’s interesting and the ideas and questions it poses is interesting but it’s not written well in the end. There are character changes and choices that suddenly come with the reveal, such as the groups hatred of the company which was not evident before, even for Clare. This sudden change is given through a flashback that’s also unclear and add to that the powers which so far have been solid but still slightly undefined and there are a lot of head scratching on my part. It’s good and what it’s trying to do is interesting but it’s not handled that well when compared to the rest of the series. The Graveyard arc is interesting, it’s also a bit weird in terms of having such a villainous turn for a Claymore when the company has been so tight with ruling them, so it makes also no sense. That being said the visuals for that Awakened is gonna give me nightmare in a good way, I’ve been hoping for some fantastic monster designs and so far we’ve only had bipedal wolf looking things, not we get some good stuff!

Characters: The group of four are interesting but more time needed in the development of their drive and the core hatred that they have for the company. When most of the time we find the Claymore’s obedient and we suddenly without context and reason have to accept all four have issues with the company then we have an issue here. We need more development in this area. That being said the four characters have potential and the top five listed in the book are going to be interesting. I like how Clare has changed since the first book and it’s slowly being earned but as I said there need to be more context of why this group is not a fan of the company and the actual workings of it.

It was a good arc but some elements did not really make it for a completely smooth read.

Onward to the next book!

This was a great one as we see the 4 of them take on the male awakened being and there is this great moment where Clare and Miria team up to defeat it and we learn why these 4 have been selected as they are half-awakened and the organization is keeping tabs on them and maybe waiting to exterminate them if they awaken. And so they hatch their plan in secret and its awesome to see the way they go forward next. Clare has to go to a village Gonahl and team up with Ophelia to take down another Awakened being but she is faced with more challenges as she is the one being hunted.

Another great volume as we see the difference in their strength and seeing the secrets and whats actually going on turns the attention on the Rachel. She is both the predator and Prey and the designs of the top 5 are awesome and having her pit against one of her own is an inspired idea and changes the series going forward. I am loving it. Plus the art and the design of the monsters is so cool. Just next level manga.

4/5 Another solid volume. Clare and the gang of Claymore's finish their arc with the Male Awakened Being. Some nefarious plots about the organization are starting to unravel. And we learn a little more about awakened beings and that some Claymore's apparently partially awaken without turning into full yoma.

After that Clare and Raki are sent after another awakened being. However they're paired up with the 4th ranking Claymore Ophelia and she's a sadist whose just as interested in killing Clare and Raki as she is in taking out the awakened being.

Clare and the Male Awakened Being on the cover of volume 6.

While not new to the series, I find the Claymore ranking system to be way, way too endemic of video game mentality that often infects manga. However, the idea that Clare is both more powerful and less powerful than the others is fascinating. The high-ranking Claymores being so blood thristy and so cavalier with human life is strange given the incredibly amount of weight the ban on killing humans in the story arcs just previous. The monster design here is impressive though. The expansion to the mythology and the conspiracy around the corporation becomes more interesting, but the character motivations seem inconsistent at times.

Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human.

In the sixth installment Clare has been sent to join three other higher ranking Claymores in the hunt for a male awakened being. To the other Claymore’s Clare is the weakest since she is the lowest ranking of them at 47 but even though she may be the lowest it doesn’t stop her from fighting. After surviving the brutal fight the girls all make it out alive, and discover that they all have something in common. Forming an unheard of bond for the Claymore organization the girls part hoping to see each other again. Clare is sent to hunt down a former single digit encountering Ophelia a single digit who lusts for battle without a regard who she kills.

I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She may not survive every encounter but that doesn’t stop her from doing what has to be done protecting the humans. While most Claymore’s wouldn’t allow Raki to tag along she accepts him and maybe it’s partly because they are kindred but he needs her and she him to keep her humanity. I find Clare to be an intriguing character and can’t wait to see more about her back story as well as what’s going to happen next. We are given a little back story on Clare which introduces us to Teresa a Claymore whose life was changed by Clare.

I’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight. While I am familiar with the story it’s interesting to see it play out as I read it. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to go on but so far I’m super exited to read the series. Claymore is a fast paced loaded with action series that is captivating right from the start hard to put down till the last page. Can’t wait to start the next one in the series they just keep getting better. I feel like a voracious Reader because I can’t get enough.

Clare fights with the Awakened Being and after the battle, some interesting revelations occur. The main one is that they are being watched by their organization because they are already Awakened themselves. They have no proof of this and go their separate ways.

Clare then gets assigned another Awakened Being and she meets up with Ophelia- a bloodthirsty Claymore that likes to see everyone bleed. Clare runs away with Raki and Ophelia is left with the Awakened Being.

Such a good series, this volume introduces one of my favorite side characters that I just love to hate. Scary even when she is on your side.

Today's post is on Claymore volume 6: The Endless Gravestones by Norihiro Yagi. It is the sixth in the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the five volumes to understand the story. It is 189 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Clare fighting the Awakened Being from the last volume alone. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Clare and her fellow Claymores are nearing the end of their strength in their battle against the Awakened Being- a male ex-Claymore who can no longer control his Yoma powers. Not only is Clare the weakest among them, but she has taken the brunt of the creature's attacks as well, and yet she may be their only hope of discovering the Awakened Being's weakness.

Review- Like the past few volumes we have the ending of one plot and the beginning of another. The other Claymores that Clare was send with are very powerful, much more so than her, but the leader discovers Clare's true strength is that she can track Yoma energy. That is why she can fight Yoma so much more powerful than herself and win. It turns out they were send to die because they have been causing trouble and looking into things that the Organization does not want them to know. Clare is then sent to fight another Awakened Being but the real monster is the other Claymore. The other Claymore, Ophelia, is blood crazed and does not care for any life. She kills who she wants and if there are witnesses she kills them too. She discovers that Clare is half-Awakened and wants to kill her at all costs. That is where the volume ends. Ophelia is scarier than any other monster we have read about in the series so far and I do not think that Clare can win this fight without a high cost.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

After the fight against the male awakened being, the 4 claymores conclude that the organization has marked them for death and enter into a conspiracy of sorts. Each of them is partially awakened, granting them increased powers, but also raising the danger they may lose control and awaken completely. Miria, in particular, is aiming to take down the organization and hints that it harbors a dark secret.

It’s nice to see Clare get some comrades, although the relationship is strictly functional at this point with no emotional involvement. (Part of the Claymore temperament, it seems, is a suppression of emotion and a cold stoicism.)

The pact also adds another major source of conflict beyond the yoma — the claymore organization itself. We already knew they were shady, with their iron fisted control of claymores, deception, greed, and rigid code of conduct, but now it seems they may be outright evil. This development heralds revelations to come and gives the plot another layer of complexity.

Before they part ways, Miria warns the others to stay clear of the top 5 claymores. And of course, Clare soon runs into one of them — Ophelia, the most unhinged of the 5 — on a mission to eliminate another awakened being.

The rest of the volume concerns this encounter which does a great job of painting Ophelia as a malicious psychopath in a high-stakes, high-suspense scene. It’s not clear who is the greater threat — the monster they were sent to kill or Ophelia herself.
