Good read with good characters. Little slow in places. But I managed to read it. 3*. Netgalley and black rose writing.

Zachary is another novel I discovered by Black Rose Writing, who is rapidly becoming one of my favorite publishers. Their list of authors, and the genres they cover, is making it a go-to for me, no matter what I'm in the mood to read. But anyway, back to this book.

Jacob Pennington is a gentleman with supernatural powers. He has used his fortune to create Rampart Industries to protect others with paranormal powers (psychic, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, etc) from a group called the Circle of Benediction, intent on destroying all persons with these powers. The titular character is a newborn child, who has been prophesied to be the one to change the world. What prevails is a tug-of-war for the child.

This is a not-quite-usual storyline, told in a compelling fashion. The plot is nicely crafted, and the characters, both good and bad, are firmly fleshed out in ways that will allow the reader to picture then as real. The story itself was a fun read, but then...reality set in. About 2/3 of the way through, the editorial staff started phoning it in, and errors galore started showing up. There were multiple spelling and grammatical errors throughout the last third of the book, which greatly distracted me from the story's enjoyment. My grade for the story would 4/5, but my editorial grade would be 2.5/5, which averages out to...

Hard to even give this book a one...mediocre doesn't quite sum it up. The plot was poor, the grammar was horrifying, and the unnecessary sex scene made this "Christian" novel not even worth finishing. Don't bother...

This is an interesting book that touches on religion and how even those in power can be twisted to serve the desires of nefarious individuals. It also looks at individuals who have powers that are just like everyone else but have powers that defy belief.
