It started with single comic book. Jeremy’s mother was determined to make a reader out of him. Shunning traditional literature at a young age, his mother placed X-Men Classic #69 in his lap and for the first time he was exposed to the phrases, “Mutants,” “BAMF,” and “SNIKT.” He is still waiting for his acceptance letter to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters at 1407 Graymalkin Lane.

Despite voraciously consuming anything by R.A. Salvatore, Mercedes Lackey, and Laurel K. Hamilton, his first love remains the superheroes in comic books. Because of this he has written multiple series in the dystopian superhero universe, the Children of Nostradamus. He is a fan of fast-paced action, the darker side of humanity and incredibly snarky dialogue.

Jeremy became known as a geek before it was a trend. During college Jeremy would be shortened to Remy as friends discovered his goal of reading every X-Men comic. Being able to explain the many incarnations of Jean Grey and her alternate-dimensional children remains a badge of honor.

When not pounding away at the keyboard he is… nevermind, he’s always at his keyboard working on the next novel.

Damn entertaining read

It was messed up. Started a little slow but once the feast began it really didn't stop. Some what standard characters but it was a high school. Some stereotypes came about for a reason but these characters were not completely defined by then. Definitely liked the epilogue...

Outrageously funny

Very funny, the writing was good with no grammar issues. I enjoyed the story & characters. Not a likely scenario but funny

Wow, just wow.

This book is awesome! I loved how things progress and enjoyed the video game feel of the ending. I am so glad to find there is a sequel to Suburban Zombie High.

This is the type of funny, campy, outrageously hysterical kind of drama that more than likely would never happen but is best to be prepared for just in case.

The witty writing makes it hard to put this down as Flagg takes the genres of Action/Adventure, Horror and Humor to a new level with this irreverent, sometimes sarcastic, examination of teenage behavior at the high school level. It’s got something for everyone between the zombies and teen melodrama. Using Breakfast Club like tropes you have all the necessary personalities covered here. The few adult characters weren’t really done well but then they seemed to be there more as props to give the students something to act against.

The only negative I found was some of the language used by the characters towards each other which came off a bit racist but at the same time I know teens actually talk to each other like this so at least the author was capturing some realism. I’m always on the fence with this kind of stuff because on one hand I don’t want to encourage it but to ignore that people talk like this doesn’t make it go away.

If you get to the end and felt you liked it more than hated then be happy because this is just the first in a series.

Suburban Zombie High by Jeremy Flagg May 1st 2017
I was an ARC reader for this Author.
It’s High School so all the usual suspect make an appearance from the science geek to the mean cheerleader and a representative from every clique in between.
This is a fun fast read as the clueless need to band together to survive during a most stressful SAT testing when a science project goes awry.
While pinned down in the Auditorium they discover who the real master mind was behind the undead catastrophe… and it is not who you thought it would be.
Jeremy Flagg did a phenomenal job with this book, one would think he was just a few years out of High School himself. He nailed the teen state of mind. I look foreword to reading more in this series.

I received a copy for an honest ARC review, and I was not disappointed in the least.

Suburban Zombie High is an uptempo, witty and sarcastic joyride. It was a hard book to put down. I found myself lost in the story and wanting to know what comes next. Flagg did a spectacular job of blending action, humor & horror. There was a natural rhythm to the story telling that made the quick, uptempo changes easy to follow. Highly recommended for fans of well written genre blending story telling. If you liked The Zombie Survival Guide, World War Z or are a fan of Zombie films like Return Of The Living Dead 1 & 2, Cooties & Dance Of The Dead, you'll love Suburban Zombie High. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Snarky, funny and zombies. It is a very over the top cliche zombie.book but it.hooks you in. The beginning is a little slow but then it really picks up.
There are some areas where it feels awkard due to language used. I did love the characters so much. Reminded me of an 80s movie.

DNF @ 14% (Chapter 5)

I am a zombie fanatic. Obsessed really. Anyone that knows me will tell you I live and breath almost everything zombie. But this book... was a insulting mess.

Normally I don't rate DNF books but I have so many problems with this book that I couldn't not rate it. I actually started highlighting all the parts that pissed me off. Sorry if feminism and racism pisses me off but it does. And by 14% there was more highlighted texts than not.

If you don't want to know possible spoilers, stop reading. But if you are curious to know why it pissed me off, by all means, continue.

While they are in gym class Jacob tells the teacher "no offense I don't see how this is exercise. It's just really slow dancing." to which Racist Min replies "T'ai Chi is an ancient martial art, cracker."
Jacob tells her to calm down and Racist Min then attacks him. To which the teacher just sits and watches.

Min then says "I am calm like a running river." to which a boy replies "Wait, rivers aren't calm."
Min then gets pissed off and says "You're not Asian, you don't understand."

right..... Because race is what totally makes you understand some things. Because there is no way that people could just KNOW. They HAVE to be a certain race to know. Mulan would be disappointed in Min. LOL!

BUT WAIT! It's not over. Min then stands over Jacob who is still in pain and says "Don't fuck with rice power. Once I'm done kicking your ass, I will ruin you down with my Honda."

Only then does the teacher do something. Though sadly all she does was tell some other kid to take Jacob to the nurse and "let her know he mouthed off to Min."

Are. You. Freaking Serious. He didn't do anything! Just ugh! Ugh!

And we aren't done yet. Feminist-Marcotte orders the class to split in to teams and the last one picked has to "Run laps for being weak."
Riiiiiiiiight. Couldn't be because they are unpopular or something. They must be WEAK so they must be punished. Yeah, okay.

and of course because she didn't assign captains, teens boys are fighting over who gets to be captains.
"Rodney and Tom, stop fighting or I'll kick your asses.
Ummm... those are kids you are screaming at. In school. You have ZERO right to cuss or threaten them. You should be fired.

and in case you are wondering where I got feminist from, she tells Min "I don't hate mean, I just think they're the weaker sex." Lol yeah okay. whatever you say lady.

This book just pissed me off so much, I don't want to even try to finish it. this isn't even half of the stuff I have highlighted! I mean it makes me want to ask, was this book MEANT to be racist and feminist? (Rhetorical question)

Racist quotes from the book:

- "Victor, you're going to be the white man's cannon fodder."

-He was dumb, very dumb, dumber than the average white man.

-Another - another jealous cracker"

-"White woman's gone crazy."

There are tons more that I could write and I just find that incredibly sad that all this was bunched into the first 14%! If it is this bad now, then I am scared to know how much worse it gets later on. Normally I wouldn't call a book trash, but this one is. We literally have enough hate and junk in the world. I don't want to read about it. I just want to enjoy zombies.

I don't recommend this book. Save your sanity. Dodge this book like you are dodging a baseball to the face.

Unfortunately, not what I expected. I've seen some FB posts from the author and they were snarky but funny. But these books are not, at least not my kind of fun.
The characters are stereotype, prejudiced and just not believable, leave alone likable. And the dialogues.... It might be that High School kids nowadays just slash out on one another with racist or bullying comments. Or they drool and have lost every coherent thinking when they are in love (Nate or Cadence when she sees Shawn's brother). Nothing inbetween, they never say a word of compassion or understanding, not even to their „friends“ (if that's what Cadence and Min are). This makes it absolutely impossible to like them. So, I don't really care if this bunch of racist, teenage angst bullies survives, I can't even tell them apart properly.

When the zombies rise and chase the survivors, they still don't get their stuff together and rather lash out on each other (Dione and Olivia) or even shove one to death. And the racist Asian girl becomes the prototype of a kung-fu movie fighter.
But the adults/teachers are not any better. One turns into a self-proclaimed hero (who finds some minutes in the closet with the nurse and another stupid dialogue follows where he asks her if she thinks they will become a couple and she retorts indignantly that she is not easy to get.... uha, concentrate please, zombies next door). And if I ever meet a librarian who is a gun lover, I will let you know.

And last but not least, there are logical questions:

The only good point I can give this book was the idea of the zombies having some kind of memory. Even though it was ridiculous that they could be threatened by failing them in their AP class.

If you like „Scary Movie“ than this B-Movie (or rather D-Movie) dialogues and characters might entertain you – not me.....

This is not exactly what I was expecting. I've been reading it in fits and starts for several days, and I probably will go back to it, but there's no urgency. I can't tell the characters apart, even though so far they all seem like American cliches ... the nasty cheerleader, the emo teen, the jock and so on. Maybe they'll gain some depth as the story continues. Everyone seems to accept the idea of their friends and schoolmates being zombies very easily with very little pause or worry about bludgeoning them to death. I know, crisis situation, but still. And I haven't quite figured out how it was passed. Again, maybe it's made clear later on, and I do plan to continue reading.
This isn't bad, exactly. It just doesn't seem to be much of anything right now.
Thanks to netgalley and Brave New Worlds for this e arc, which I received in exchange for an honest review.

As if high school is not bad enough, now add in zombies caused by a chemistry lab accident. Or was it an accident? In any case our plucky band of heroes....what? They are not plucky? Nor heroes? Then what are they? Well, they are the tropes of modern horror movies. The angry Asian, the nasty cheerleader, the soap opera watching teacher, the jock, the gay would-be-Marine, the black and white power couple, the loner who stockpiles weapons in his school locker, and the gun-toting librarian, plus the various zombie bait. They start out trapped in various rooms in the high school and over two days managed to get to the auditorium to have the final fight with the zombies and try to push through a Pull door. Some folks survived, many do not, and mayhem home to zombie movies are found throughout the book. And then they claim there are sequels? Are you up to the effort?

*This book was received via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

This book had a really interesting premise. The thought of a zombie apocalypse occurring in a high school is both intriguing and horrifying. I really liked the diversity of the characters and the fact that the book was told from quite a few of their different perspectives. While often this can be unsuccessful making the book feel disjointed, in this case it really worked, helping to develop the plot. I did think that many of the characters seemed a bit cliche though and this detracted from the book. Also, the book seemed to drag in places. Overall, this was a good book with an interesting plot however it didn't blow me away or overly excite me.

Older teens will immediately connect with these quirky characters and the all-too perfect portrayal of "high end" high school life. Stereotypes drive each character, but teens will revel in the humor and hyperbole generated by each. Problem? The language, content, and sexuality is excessive (and unneeded to support this brilliant plot). Had this book's content been reeled in by a teen-savvy editor, it would have soared in both Middle School and Upper School markets. As librarians, we're a flexible set who believe in freedom to read. This book, however, restricts itself from the most liberal of school library surveyors.

Grab the Audible as well, it is well worth it.

Zombies to the Left of Us, Zombies to the Right, Com'on Gang it's Time to Fight! They are all here, the Mean Girls, the Nerds, the Jocks, and the Stoners and sometimes you have to put away the clique and fight for your lives. This has been one of the most delightful listens I have had, and the performance only made it better. A couple of times I stopped what I was doing and turned to look at my Alexa as if she were a TV, I so much wanted to see it. I am now looking forward to my next credit, just so I can listen to Suburban Zombie High the Reunion.

Oh, just a quick warning. Don't mess with Min or the Librarian.

This was a strange one.
Its a cross between B-movie zombie horror and a really bad high school drama.
It honestly reads like the author is an equal opportunity hater. Each character is the worst stereotype of race/gender/profession.
It seems like its supposed to be punchy and snarky comedy writing, but it just leaves a nasty aftertaste.
Not a book I’d personally recommend.

Good tale for teenagers

I liked the story but it was a bit too corny for my taste. However if you like the Scream movies , it will be right up your alley. I did enjoy that the mastermind behind the outbreak was a science teacher who was off her rocker.
