"It’s hard to move on in life when the shadow of my past is at my heels at all times. Just when I think that I got over the past, and that I’m ready to move on, it sneaks up on me like a jungle cat who’s been starving for days on end and needs food." Lauren Reynolds has been married for two years, and has been with her husband, Cooper Reynolds for four years. Everything in their life is perfect: Cooper is a loving, understanding husband who thinks the world of Lauren and Lauren reciprocates those feelings. There's just one problem: for four years, before Lauren and Cooper started dating, she was in an emotionally abusive relationship that still haunts her and eats at her every day.
"Silenced" is the story of Lauren's journey to finding absolute happiness in a life that has been ripped to shreds several times. With the help of Cooper, Lauren will overcome and conquer her past, leaving it all where it belongs.
This is the first of this authors stories I've read.
It is Lauren's heart breaking story of moving on with her past with Jason to live her life fully with her husband Cooper. She has been emotionally hurt so much by Jason that she struggles daily to leave her past on the past. Can Coopers love overcome everything and save her?
Really short but well written story of one woman's battle with moving on with the past.
This is a heartbreaking story of Lauren trying and struggling to move forward with her life.
You know what its like when you have been emotionally hurt, you retract inside yourself and although you don't intentionally do it [maybe] you build a wall around yourself.
Lauren wants and tries to leave her past permanently in the past where they belong.
For such a short story I thought this author did a super job.
I just want to start by saying, I would have read this as an entire novel instead of simply a fifty-page novelette. It was that good.
This book really resonated with me because I understand being in a relationship similar to Lauren's before she met Cooper. In fact, I understood Lauren so much that everything she discussed, from feeling like no one would ever truly love her to feeling pretty worthless, I understood because I had been there. Even though my relationship had been slightly different from her and Jason's emotionally destructive one, I understood it. I knew Lauren's pain.
And I was glad she had been able to find someone who understood her pain. Someone who would be there to always help her.
Sometimes I fear I won't find someone like that myself. It's a truly scary thing to think no one will ever love you. But enough about me. Back to the story.
Lauren had been in an emotionally abusive relationship with a guy named Jason for years. It wasn't a relationship either should have been in. When Lauren met Cooper and began falling for him, she began to wonder if Jason had ever really even loved her. We're not told too much about Jason and Lauren's relationship, but we did see what Lauren went through when she began to recede into her memories. Anxiety attacks would kick in, but Cooper was always there to pull her out and help her. He tried what he could to keep her in the here and now. Same for Lauren with Cooper. In a way, they're each other's angels. They keep each other leveled.
Can I have my own Cooper? I want a guy who understands and loves me as he does Lauren.
I received a free copy of this and volunteered to review it. Thank you so much again, Aimee!
I've known about this book for a while and was excited to see it go out into the world. It's a topic that is often glossed over. Abuse itself is often glossed over but I feel emotional abuse is even more glossed over when talking about abuse.
This was a good story about overcoming the past and having hope for the future. I enjoyed the characters but would have liked some more backstory on both. Something to bring me in even more. I found myself sometimes wanting to be brought more into the story.
But as I was in an emotionally abusive relationship myself, I found this story very easy to relate to. At times reading Lauren's story was like reading my own. I think overall this is a good book and story. One that many should read if for nothing more than to relate to it or have their eyes open to abuse/emotional abuse. 4 quills!!
Lauren is struggling with her past and her future. She is in emotional limbo. Her hurtful past keeps pulling her into the darkness, while her bright future lures her to the light. Can she keep her demons away or will they eat her up, destroying her one chance at happiness?
This is a quick story, that glosses over the past and hints at the future. I was hoping for more of a back story for Lauren. We did get a taste of what was going on, hints, clues about the verbal assault she endured. For every step backward she makes, she also seems to take two steps forward.
I know this is Lauren's story, but I would have like to have known more about Cooper. Cooper seemed to have infinite patience with Lauren, no matter what was going on with her.
This was my first Aimee Shaye book but I look forward to reading more from here. This book was so very emotional and I was easily able to relate to Lauren. She had suffered for years and it was still effecting her life. Thankfully, she had Cooper to console and reassure her when she would get stuck in her own head.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this review voluntarily
I really enjoyed this book, I see a lot of myself in these words. Lauren was a great friend, girlfriend and lover, but she didn't even know her own worth. I loved the fact that Cooper was there for her at every turn, and would prove to always be. Such an amazing story of love, patience, and faith.
This is a very well writted account of emotional abuse... the characters are so well written and realistic... I can totally relate to this, unfortunately too personally but I think that not being forgotton or swept under the rug is a great thing... I would recommend this to anyone!!! Great author, great read!
omg i can so relate to this book! since i was a victim of abuse for years. this book come right to the point and how she has dealt with it all these years. glad she found a guy who treats the way she should be. thanks for giving me a chance to read this book!
Absolutely wonderful! Have you ever been in any type of abusive relationship? Then this book is definitely inspiring because of the hurdles gone through to become the wife she knows she can be. Very inspirational. Aimee Shay has my loyalty 💗
A heart gripping story of what abuse does to someone. Wounds heal but emotional scars never go away. The anxiety that it leaves is debilitating. I can't wait to see where Lauren and Cooper's story ends up. I'm rooting for them both.
