This would be a good series to read in an abridged form. The characters are interesting, the plot unusual but it does drag. Two chapters on Jack taking care of an arm injury! Really, who wants all that detail. I'll hang in there but it does get tedious.
Bunker, book 3 in the series, is jam-packed with danger, violence and exciting tension! The characters are interesting and easy to like or hate. It is definitely a story-driven apocalyptic thriller! I throughly enjoyed and already have book 4.
NOTE: This is the same review for books 1 - 3 in the series.
Even though I've read some poor books in the genre, I am still drawn to post-apocalyptic novels. I am somewhat intrigued by the subject, probably because I harbor a hidden fear that something like this could actually happen. If it does, what would happen to society and civilization? Who would be the survivors? Would life be worth living?
When Amazon's "Book Bub" offered the first three books in this Bunker series at a ridiculously low price, I couldn't resist. I probably should work on my resistance skills. While the books aren't terrible, they are quite formulamatic. The damaged protagonist is forced to become a hero due to extenuating circumstances. He is, of course, ex-military and has amazing skills. He shows-up at the last minute -- time and time again -- to save the day. He gets injured, but somehow manages to quickly and effortlessly overcome beatings and torture that would kill just about anyone. Sometimes I think these plots could write themselves.
I also find that the author spends WAY too much time describing events that really aren't that important. It took the author numerous pages to describe the agonizing details of how Bunker was able to secure some honeycombs from a beehive. Was that really necessary? It seemed to me that these loooong descriptions of non-consequential events were inserted to add page count, and little more. I grew weary of these extended descriptions.
I dutifully completed all three books in the package, but really don't have the desire to read the final two books to complete the series. That says a lot.
After reading book #1, I stepped back and read a completely different book. But I kept thinking about it. So I read #’s 2&3 straight through. Jay Falconer writes fast hard reads and puts a whole hell of a lot more than at first glance. By #3 we have a whole Russian Invasion in place. All this occurred in less than 72 hours after the EMP. As I was reading I was asking myself the same questions our key characters were asking, “Why?”..... That is the point of living vicariously within the story. Not that many writers can pull you in that far.... But Jay Falconer keeps doing it. Awesome read.
Decent book 3 but dragged in a lot of places. Way too much time was spent on his injured arm and some of the characters constantly retread old history. At least we know who the bad guys are but not really why they are there. Not sure I really understand how Russia would make comfortable use of biker gangs to achieve their objectives. Not sure I will continue the series, but I kind of what to know why this all happened.
Bunker continues to defend the people of Clearwater from the invaders.
Non-stop action is the prevailing theme in this series of linked books. An EMP takes out the power, an invading army appears, Bunker performs masterfully, defending the town and its populace.
A terrific tale of the best and worst of humanity in action, pursuing their own goals. The action is furious and relentless, hard to put down even for a second!
This whole series has been a great read. The characters are all interesting and keep you wondering what comes next. There are maybe a few too many 'just in the nick of time' moments but really, that's what we all like anyway! We want to see the characters overcome all obstacles. I can't wait to see what happens in book 4. What are these damn Russians up to??
I ripped through this book. Amazing storyline with well defined character's. I was drawn in from the first book. Twists and turns throughout. I can't wait to find out what happens to Jack Bunker, Stephanie, Sherriff Apollo and the rest of the town. Do yourself a favor pick up this series.
At this point in the series, I think there are just too many plot elements in play. We've got the Russians, the Kindred, and some unidentified bad guys, plus a couple of potential love interests. How many more books will it take to tie them all up?
When some writers get into a long story things get stale. Bummer remains a page turned with prepped tips, twists, and turns. An imaginary apocalypse with good and bad Americans, evil Russians, and a kick ads hero.
Im waiting for book 4 this one was pretty good even if the main character had a hole from a stick in his arm and he never put a bandage on it till he did a days worth of work
This series reads like one big novel. We are given much more information, but no solid outcomes. While the girls do work out their differences, we are left wondering what the Russians are doing cordoning off the town, and who the FEMA guys really are. This is getting interesting.
Liked the series which had endings without ending the storyline. Not a cliffhanger but would’ve loved if it had been a single book. Narrator is terrific and I’m glad they had him perform the whole series.
Continuing story . How Bunker gets back to the Sheriff and the grabby Stephanie . He sees the Russians at an outpost gathering place and escapes death. Meanwhile the town has FEMA? Crazy stuff . One small typo.
3.5 stars I liked the first 2 books but now its starting to go off the rails for me. The story is getting wonky. I will continue to read this because its on Kindle Unlimited. If I had to buy the books I would be done.
I really enjoyed this series. It showed the human side of different personalities during an unknown crisis. I hope the next book in this series comes out soon!
Fantastic series but need to be read in order they could all be combined into one huge book! Love the series and the characters! It keeps evolving and surprising me!
Jay J. Falconer’s creative mind is amazing. Book 3 is as great as books 1 & 2, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series and other books by this fabulous author.
