Fire At Midnight

Rate this book
His wounds not entirely healed, rugged Marine veteran, Nathan Young takes a job as Deputy Sheriff in Laramie, Wyoming for the summer. He finds a picture of a beautiful woman and keeps it on his nightstand. When he meets the real Laura he is charmed by her and wants to know her better. Meanwhile, what he thought to be an easy job in a peaceful town, turns dangerous with the return of the outlaw Coyote, wanted for arson. Mysterious fires at midnight keep ranchers and the sheriff on edge.

Laura Delaney is back in Laramie, Wyoming to work as a pediatric nurse at the hospital. Her past as a battered wife at the hands of an abusive man has made her wary of men. She likes the new Deputy Sheriff very much. He is very gentle and wonderful with her six year old son, Joey. Could she get over her fear and give the handsome deputy a chance?

Vivian Sinclair always enjoyed dreaming up stories. When she had time in her busy life, she used to disappear with her laptop to write. Her family often found her in her office immersed in the world of fiction. And because a good dream should be a happy one, all her books have happy-endings.
She was a pioneer of e-publishing. Her first book, a contemporary romance, was e-published in 1997 under a different pen name. She has written several other contemporary romances. In the last few years, she also started writing women’s fiction.
After years of moving from the East Coast to the Midwest and then to the Pacific Northwest, after traveling all over the United States, Vivian settled in the Seattle area, where she lives with her husband and her daughter.

Short, sweet stories. I started with Ms. Sinclair's Summer Days in Wyoming Books and have since read all she has written. Because of the introduction of the heroine, Laura, in the first book, I was prepared not to like her, and didn't want her anywhere near our wonderful wounded hero. But, of course it is a perfect match. Ms. Sinclair weaves humor into her books well, (the proverbial single man sleeping on a friends couch and the next think he knows he's got kids, cats, dogs, maybe a stray goat thrown in, blah, blah). There were a few edit, word usage problems, almost as if English was not the first language of the writer, at times. That was a bit distracting but seemed to improve. And, of course, a bad guy out to hurt Laura. But all came together in a HEA.
