Connor Ragbone finds things. Sometimes it’s gold, sometimes jewels, sometimes people. Set in his hippie ways, he never thought he’d find a pack, but with Sam and Gus and their goofy shifter family, he fits right in. Then he finds Brock.
Shifter Brock Herman is undercover alone, working to break up a poaching ring. The last thing he needs is for Connor to wreck his sting. And now the crazy bobcat just won’t go away!
The poachers lead Brock and Connor on a merry chase all over Western Colorado looking for shifter bears, but it’s a lost pup who brings them back to Nevada and the pack Sam and Gus are building. That’s when Brock has to decide whether he still travels alone or if Connor and his crazy family are where his heart belongs.
This follow-up to Just Like Cats and Dogs is a feel-good shifter romance novel where cats and dogs prove they can be way more than the enemies nature has made them.
Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her hounds and her beloved wife, texting her grandbabies, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting, and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. Following their own personal joys, BA and Julia heard the call of the high desert and they now live in the New Mexico mountains. BA's personal saviors include her wife, her best friends, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.
Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to cowboy daddies to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which is committed to giving everyone their happily ever after. With books ranging from hard-hitting BDSM, to fiery passions, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.
I was fortunate enough to be able to review the first book in this series on audio a few months ago and I really enjoyed it so when I saw the second book was out on audio...well, of course I had to snap that furbaby up and am I ever glad that I did because once again I enjoyed the hell outta' this.
Gus and Sam are back along with the rest of their pack along with Joe Formichella, who's giving voice to the usual characters along with Connor Ragbone, whom we've already met and Brock Herman, a wolf shifter, who's working undercover to break up a ring of poachers.
Connor's not only a Lynx shifter, he has a talent for not only being able to find things...it seems that Connor's knows when, where and what it is that he needs to find...not really specifics but he often has a strong sense of the generalities enough to get him to where he needs to be.
There's a definite humorous undertone to this book. Just like Gus and Sam, Brock and Connor share their own equally entertaining banter that I thoroughly enjoyed. The voices Joe Formichella lent to these characters all worked well for me but I especially enjoyed his interpretation of Connor Ragbone. For me this voice matched the image of the character that the author had painted so needless to say I adored Connor Ragbone and Brock but Connor became a particular favorite of mine.
Connor and Brock meet for the first time when Connor leaves Gus and Sam's sanctuary where he's been taking a break because he just knows he has something he has to go find. Following his instincts he discovers that along with finding Brock he's got one other thing...person to find and then he's got to get them both to where they belong. Turns out that he's got Brock where he belongs because Brock belongs with Connor and as for the second person well that's the rest of Connor and Brock's adventure and this story.
So what have I learned at the end of all this well a few things... 1. I want more of this series 2. If you add a good dose of humor you can make me love just about anything...because sifters and I've been left wanting more...who knew? 3. I apparently have a soft spot for Lynx shifters who are laid, back, easy going, hippies with blond dreadlocks in their human form...again, who knew?
I decided to listen to this one just for the fun of it and it was a good idea because listening to Connor and Brock as they fell in love and shared an adventure was definitely fun.
Whoever said cats and dogs don't get along hasn't met the feline and lupine shifters of this series.
What a fun follow-up to the first book! Also, while this could be read as a standalone, you'd miss out if you didn't read about Sam (a panther) and Gus (a wolf) getting together in the first one.
In this book, we have Connor Ragbone, a bobcat shifter, and Brock Herman, a wolf shifter like Gus.
Connor finds things. Something inside him pulls him in a certain direction, calling to him, even though he never knows what he might find when he answers that call. He never thought he'd have a permanent home base, being a bit of a loner, but he's found a place to come back to with Sam and Gus and their awesome family.
His current call leads him to Brock.
Brock Herman is self-sufficient, self-reliant, and basically also a loner. He's working undercover, trying to break up a poacher ring. He has no time for the bobcat that suddenly shows up in the middle of his ops, but the cat just won't leave him alone, dammit.
I laughed out loud so many times reading this book. Connor is a unique character, and I really enjoyed how much he trusts that inner voice calling him to his next find, and how laid back he was, never questioning whether following the call might end up with him in trouble or not.
Two loners - what could possibly go wrong, amirite?
Turns out Connor and Brock are mates, feeling that inexplicable pull toward each other, even if this doesn't fit with Brock's plans at all. The author did a great job not forcing the mating call, but letting Brock ("I work alone, dammit") come to terms with Connor's presence, despite his annoyance, and the romance develops slowly. Sure, UST and sexy times come fairly quickly, but the emotional bond takes time to grow. Well done, that.
Connor was utterly adorable - I loved him from the start. He's quirky, funny, snarky, and super laid-back, but also quick to lend a hand, smart, and definitely loyal and courageous. His easy-going personality was well contrasted with Brock's more serious and focused personality, and I thought that the two men complemented each other rather well. They worked well as a team, which comes in handy when... nope, not gonna spoil this for you.
The story has action galore, what with the poacher ring, and bears in cages, which culminates in an edge-of-your-seat sequence of events that leaves Connor seriously injured, help from an unexpected source, and the villain... nah, you read this for yourself.
The author did a fantabulous job with world building in this book and its predecessor, and the specific shifter mythology employed here worked really well for me. There's no magical healing, no mating bond compulsion, and no instant ILYs, but the book sure delivers what it promises - a feel good shifter romance.
I can hardly wait for the next book in this series.
** I received a free copy of this book form its publisher. A positive review was not promised in return. **
This was a fun read! A crazy combo of all sorts of cats and dogs shifters. Connor is a bobcat, who is also a Finder and he is onto some poachers hunting bears. Meanwhile he 'finds' Brock, a wolf shifter, who turns out to be his mate. And there are fun and action times ahead.
Wolves and bobcats and bears, oh my! Poachers, puppies, cubs, and even eagles. A few scary situations, but this is overall a feel good story about pack, family, and kindness with a little hot love for good measure. I absolutely enjoyed it all and hope the author will show us more of these folks.
A bobcat shifter with a sixth sense to Find, and a lone wolf shifter who brings down poachers together make a crazy pair. This was one fun, action packed romance. The two may be opposites, but it worked perfectly. And so cute together whenever they were in animal form. Loved it.
Cats and dogs not mixing is, apparently, a total rumor, at least based on what happens in this series. After wolf Gus and panther Sam got together in ‘Just Like Cats and Dogs’, this time it is bobcat Connor and wolf Brock’s turn. Their story is unusual, full of adventures and danger, and while Brock doesn’t think he needs anyone (especially not a mate), he soon discovers he and Connor work really well together. As it turns out, with the trouble they discover, they’ll need to be an excellent team if they want to survive and rescue the ones who need rescuing.

This could be read as a stand-alone, but the story will be more enjoyable if you read Sanctuary #1 first.
I really enjoyed this book – it had me laughing, chuckling and chortling the entire way through. It had a great blend of sweetness, a tiny bit of uncertainty, and, as the blurb notes, this is a feel-good shifter romance.
Premise of the book is Connor is a bobcat, a Finder of lost things, and a loner. He “finds” Brock in the middle of a poaching sting, much to Brock’s annoyance. When things go swiftly south, Connor steps up to the plate and lends a paw. But Connor quickly realizes that Brock was meant to be found by him, even if Brock doesn’t want to acknowledge the growing attraction between them. As Connor continues to help Brock take down a large bear poaching organization, Brock starts to realize how much he’s missed being part of a pack.
And that’s partially why I enjoyed this story so much – too many shifter books end up in an instantaneous mashing of lips and shouted cries of “mine!”, and there’s no underlying foundation of compatibility beyond sex. I liked how the author built a relationship between the bobcat and wolf, and continued to build it.
I ADORED Connor. His character is a hoot, his personality sweet, sincere, witty, courageous, and funny. Oh my gosh, I can’t recall the number of times I was chuckling out loud at the one-line zingers! I loved how some of his bobcat personality melted over into his human.
Brocks more staid and serious temperament balanced out Connor’s perfectly.
Another notable shout out for the author, when Connor is injured/injures himself during a daring rescue; there is no shifting with immediate healing. Connor is hurt, he’s hurt bad, and he has to recover from that as bobcat/human. It takes time and I greatly appreciated the author writing that in. Kudos! (Medical things are a quirk of mine…)
My one teeny complaint…two teeny complaints… is when one of the Sanctuary pack’s kids go missing, Sam and Gus (book 1) call Connor back. Now Gus is alpha wolf, Gray is another wolf albeit blind, there are more wolves around, one jaguar…yet none of them could track the girl?
And I’m fairly certain Brock is supposed to be a wolf shifter, yet it sure looks like a coyote on the cover. I could be wrong on both accounts...but it sure looks like a coyote to me. I told you it was a teeny complaint!
Otherwise, a light, funny, super sweet story about a bobcat finding and holding on to his wolf.
Review is cross posted at Gay Book Reviews A copy of the book was provided by the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
What the Cat Dragged In is book two in the Sanctuary series and I think it’s best read as such. I read the first book in the series when it was first released and after just a few chapters of book two, I decided a re-read of Just Like Cats and Dogs was in order. Connor is a character who was introduced in the previous book, and those first main characters also play a big role here. You could read this one as a standalone, but you definitely won’t enjoy it as much.
The blurb calls this a feel-good romance, and it isn’t wrong. It’s a light and easy read, any conflict between the main characters is pretty mild and the author does a great job of injecting plenty of humor into the story.
Connor is the source of much of the humor. I loved Connor. He presented as a bit of a weird hippie, laidback and a drifter. But then the author showed us his sense of humor, and then his confidence, and finally his bad-assness. I relished getting to know every facet of Connor, but it was his confidence in his gift of Finding that I loved the most.
However beyond enjoying the characters, both new and old, the book struggled to hold my interest. The plot was in many ways a repeat of the first story – badguy shifters seriously injuring one of the main characters and the whole, can a cat mate with a dog issue. It really was the characters that carried this story for me. I liked the addition of the different shifters, as the “sanctuary” begins to get bigger and more diverse.
And that, I think, is my biggest draw to this series. The idea of the sanctuary for lost, hurt, lonely, random shifters of any species. I know it’s not a new plot idea, but it’s one that I tend to reach for when I need a nice, fuzzy kinda story.
This was a zero-angst, easy-going romance that I enjoyed reading. I’m looking forward to seeing where the author takes this series next.
Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of the book.
Connor finds things. He finds Brock. Brock wasn't aware he was lost, he is just undercover, trying to catch the poachers from getting anymore bears. But the more time Brock spends with Connor, the more he realises, that maybe, just maybe, he really DID need finding and bringing home, to Connor.
Book two in the Sanctuary series, but you don't need to have read book one, Just Like Cats and Dogs, for this one to make sense. While Sam and Gus play a part here, you don't need their story to enjoy Connor and Brock's story. I have though and I find myself comparing the two.
Because I had *issues* with book one. But here?? NONE!! No issues, not complaints not a single thing can I fault this book for!! I LOVED this one!!
Connor's mind takes some following, though. He flits around like a bee on flowers, and his thoughts go off at random tangents and it does take some getting used to. Once I got my head round Connor, as best I could, I loved how that flitting around went! I loved the silly names that Connor, a bob-tailed cat, and Brock, a wolf, have for each other, Kitty, Fuzzy and the like. LOVED that the mating connection for their minds wasn't immediately obvious. Because Connor could read Brock's mind WAY before he realised that was what he was doing!
Sam and Gus play a part, when Connor takes Brock home, and we catch up with all those who are there at the Sanctuary, and there are some new additions, but I'll not say who or what, that's part of the plot line and would be spoilers. I have NO idea who is next, but whoever it is, I wanna read more of this series, and indeed, more of Tortuga. They are growing on me!
What the Cat Dragged in is book 2 in the Sanctuary series. You may be able to read it on its own but I think you would enjoy it more if you read book one first as it sets up the background and you will know some of the other character better.
Connor Ragbone is a bobcat shifter and a finder. He finds missing persons and even things. He can't help when he gets a call but when he does he has to go find the lost thing. He has just dropped f a recued coyote shifter, sent some time with his family of shifters, which consist of panthers, wolves, and coyotes and lots of baby wolves when the urge to go hits hard.
Bock is a wolf shifter that helps rescue poached bears. On one mission he finds another shifter following him. Connor is a weird man wit dreadlocks and babbling a lot, but the two connect quickly.
Connors name and description alone is fun and sets the story. With him and is hippy free self, wild personality add in the cute pups that makes the story worth reading in itself. Now add in a mystery of the finding, stopping the bear poachers then finding a bear shifter to add ot their already hodge-podge sanctuary and you have one good time story.
I had a few unanswered questions about the bad guy and the cover really threw me with Connor pictured so boy-next door and clean cut when the description has his blond dreads over and over but the story is fun, happy, and hot!
I really enjoyed this but not right away at the beginning. It took some time for me to get into this book as I found that it didn't really find its groove until about half way through. The beginning half didn't truly have the two main characters meshing and felt a bit ungainly in a way. The dialogue seemed to stretch on in very odd ways. Connor and Brock initially work together well, but only when it works for Brock. They clearly have some lust for each other but it doesn't seem to extend beyond that. It takes the two leaving each other in a crisis for it to feel like things finally get figured out. Then once they click, it really gets going, and the rest of the book flows smoothly and makes a great story figuring out these two men moving forward. Took a bit of time, but was a good story along the way.
I went straight into this book after finishing Just Like Cats and Dogs and whilst Sam and Gus have their own land and little pack, there is always room for more and we are introduced to Connor, a bobcat shifter and Brock a wolf. Connor also has a special talent for finding things. Coming across Brock, who is working to break up a poaching ring, Connor know he has found what was lost. I enjoyed this book so much and I wanted to keep following Brock and Connor as they travelled together. Connor was a ray of sunshine to Brock's grumpiness and they worked well together. It was good to catch up with Sam and co and seeing how their pack has progressed. The action was more to the front of this story due to the poaching making this book a page turner as in the 1st there are some unexpected twists which I did not see coming. I did not want this story to end
Connor finds things, he might not always know why or what he's finding but he knows these things need to be found. It's a talent he's inherited and when he gets that feeling there's no stopping him till the item is found. Brock is just trying to do his job working undercover when Connor finds him. Brock Isn't sure what to do with the bobcat shifter, but surprisingly he finds him helpful. Brock is a lone wolf and can't conceive of a relationship with a cat. Time and the fates don't seem to care. An interesting story of finding things and relationships that are outside of the norm including family.
A kitty who's hyper, has dread locks, and a hippie with the ability to find things, and love? A lone wolf, confident of his ability to save bears, and not looking for love. This is a hilarious, laugh out loud, kitty filled full of antics and loaded with family, love and danger. Suggestion: read the first book before reading this book, I promise you won't regret it! BA To drugs rocks and I can't wait for the next book in the Sanctuary Series!
MORE PLEASE! This is the 2nd book the series and plenty, plenty, plenty of room for more. Loved Brock and Connor (and that's saying something as I'm not fond of dreadlocks!) - it's a sweet romance from the get-go and I really want to see more of Connor's gift in the next books (please let there be more books!)!
Excellent story and I can’t wait for the next one. My only iss is with the cover, Conner has dreadlocks and Brock looks more like a coyote then a wolf. I love the whole finding things and I hope we see more of that in future books cause yes I want to see what is to be found that they ran off to find at the end of this book.
3.5 rounded up to 4 furry-feline stars. Love Connor's character, his harmonious groove, so to speak, and his willingness to listen to what the Universe is telling him. A fun and fluffy installment in the Sanctuary series.
What a lovely read! Uncle Connor is such a fun and lovable character that brings life and energy to the story. Great to see Sam and Gus and their pack of misfits growing as they provide safe haven for those in need.
I liked it. Wished I got to see Brock’s family. The book definitely could have benefited with some more meat in the middle. I for sure thought there would be more adventures and mysteries so I felt like the story was cut short. Overall good vibes, I enjoyed it.
A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
This is a wonderful story. Connor is a finder and when he is led to Brock he isn’t sure what he is supposed to do with him but he won’t leave him until he knows. Brock never knew he was lost until he connects with Connor in a way he never thought he would want.
Connor knows he needs to stay with Brock and readily accepts their change in relationship but he knows he needs to give Brock some more time to accept everything. They find that working together they can get stuff done efficiently even if it isn’t quite following the rules.
We get to see both of these character’s points of view which help to understand what is going on in their heads. Their mate bond grows quickly, but they have to continue to work together for it to get stronger. I loved Connor’s excitement and willingness to do pretty much anything to help others and it is plain to see when he is with the pack. Brock is a bit stubborn but knows when the right time is to follow his heart and instincts. I loved seeing Gus, Sam and their pack again and seeing how much love and acceptance they have for those around them and each other it is wonderfully refreshing.
Cover art by Alexandria Corza wonderful and it has great visuals of Connor and Brock, both in human and animal form.
Quite possibly even better than book one. A couple of times I thought the story was ending only to have it continue. Great set up for a continuing series... hopefully there will be more.
I couldn't really connect to this coupled pair. Sure they were enjoyable enough, but the storyline didn't pull on my attention as much. Nonetheless it was good story.
