August Barton thought his tribulations were over, but some truths are hard to swallow. He’s been with Rose Varley for over a year, and has his heart set on taking the next step: a marriage proposal. He’s not prepared, however, for the obstacles that soon find their way into Augie’s life—tornadoes, drunken bachelorette parties, and an earth-shattering confession from his stepdad John are all trials Augie will need to overcome if he’s going to keep the girl. With his Grandma Gertie and mom off at a retreat in the Cayman Islands, the revelation Augie never prepared himself for was that, for once, he was going to have to figure it out all on his own.
I'm so excited that I got to read this sequel!!! Jennifer kindly asked if I would be a Beta reader for her sequel to 'Trials and Tribulations of August Barton', seeing as I was a huge fan of book 1 I totally agreed to read the next "chapter" in Auggie's life. So good. Of course as a Beta reader I had to edit some, but not that much and the best part...I got to see what happened next with Auggie and the gang.
Now this book is not out yet to read and so I'm not going to say anything really in this review. I will edit this once the book is available. All I'll say is we see August 1 1/2 years later. He's still in college. All the old characters are back. Grandma Gertie is still feisty and as funny as ever and yes she does talk about her tutu's an LOTS OF SEX!
What else can I say.... there is a F-3 tornado somewhere in the mix that was cool. For some reason (probably because I live in California), I didn't realize tornadoes went so far north.
Anyways I want to thank Jennifer LeBlanc again for giving me the chance to get a early glimpse of Auggie's lastest "trials and tribulations" this book was just as good as the first. I didn't cry like the first one, but I did get teary eyed and the feels were just as abundant :D
I love how this book took ahold of me I never put it down read it in a day had me laughing within pages it has it all laughs tears suspense and at points it's intense I love how I really get to know the characters the wait for the 3rd book will be worth the wait 💞 thanks Jennifer LeBlanc for another great book and I hope what might happen happens good luck with that adventure Jen I love having a secret with you 👊😉
A very entertaining sequel to LeBlanc's initial novella. A short and light continuation of August's journey into adulthood set with graduation looming, internships, relationship upgrade and the perils of being a stupid-ass kid, like everyone has to learn from and overcome.
It was fun to learn some background of his parents and the surprise that comes with it. And part of me didn't enjoy the lack of cohesiveness in why certain characters do what they do, but that really is human nature, not everyone has a great explanation.
So, we return to the life of Auggie Barton and all of its tribulations. This time around Auggie faces some tough situations and it gets a little bit dicey during a stormy period.
If you liked the first book, you're gonna LOVE the second one. Filled with love, laughter and lots of movie quotes, this book was an absolute delight to read and I can't wait for another dose of Auggie Barton.
A huge thank you to Jennifer for allowing me to be a Beta reader for this book! It was an absolute pleasure.
I really enjoyed the sequel The Revelations Of August Barton. As Augie sorts out his life and situations that come his way we get to watch him handle life. There was some backstory on the family. The mother and grandmother go on a vacation together while Augie is home finally figuring things out on his own. I loved the first book and this one also. I hope there are more adventures to come as I find August Barton endearing.
Another fantastic installment to Augie and Rose's love story! This story broke my heart for awhile I had tears I could just FEEL what these two young loves were going through and that's darn good writing if you ask me!! We get some of Gramma Gertie's well meaning meddling and her flirty ways which I adore so much. So happy that there are more adventures for us to travel along with Augie Rose and family.
She’s done it again, Augie is such a relatable character. I devoured this book after having just read its prequel (both generously gifted in return for an honest review). I loved reading what was next for all the characters I had previously gotten to know and it did not disappoint. The only disappointment is that number 3 is not out yet.
LeBlanc does it again with part 2 of this series ! I absolutely love these characters! Gertie just makes me love her more and more with her wild ways. Auggie really shows us how sometimes we have to fall apart so that even bigger and better things can fall together. I love the love between him and Rose. I cant wait for the next installment of this series to see where Auggie ends up next.
In the second book of the August Barton series, Augie has been with the love of his life for over a year, but he hasn’t yet taken the knee of a marriage proposal. He’s all set to make a memorable scene in that regard when all hell breaks loose in the forms of tornadoes, drunken bachelorette parties, and an earth shaking confession from his estranged stepdad. He has to handle this all on his own as his Grandma Gertie and his mom are off on a vacation to the Cayman Islands.
I have not read book one in the August Barton series, so I was grateful and surprised at the excellent detail the preparatory prologue provided. Surprised because the prologue is so well written, only the note May: A Year and A Half Later alerted me to the presence of a previous book, and I was instantly immersed in the current and new segment of the story series. With few words and impressive authoring talent, Mrs. LeBlanc introduces the main characters with such precision as to evoke instant empathy with each character. Every event came alive... even the most unlikely. A perfect example is the characterization of Grandma Gertie. She is likely the most unbelievable character I’ve ever read about, but LeBlanc’s skill brings her to life in a way that is not only realistic, but makes her absolutely adorable and true to life. She rivals Augie and Rose as the star in this series. There is no real antagonist, excluding events that threaten to ruin Augie’s life, and by extension, the lives of those around him. And that’s fine... as it allows full concentration on the story and the wonderful mix of characters. The August Barton series is a winner, and I’m looking to see Jennifer LeBlanc leave the indie authoring world for a traditional contract and eventual presence on the international best-seller lists. The Revelations of August Barton by Jennifer LeBlanc Series: August Barton Book #2 Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform
Thanks to Jennifer LeBlanc for the ebook ARC of The Revelations of August Barton.
August Barton thought his tribulations were over but, some truths are hard to swallow. He has been with his girlfriend Rose Varley for over a year now. And his heart is set on taking the next step, a marriage proposal. However, Augie is not prepared for some of the obstacles that he is about to endure; tornadoes, drunken bachelorette parties and an important confession from his stepdad, John. Augie is going to have to overcome these obstacles if he is going to keep the girl. Grandma Gertie and mom off at a retreat in the Cayman Islands, Augie will have to figure his problems out on his own for once.
I give this book a rating of 5 stars and I highly recommend it. The first book in the series, The Tribulations of August Barton was more about the introduction to the characters, and about Augie finding out who he is. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and I kept wanting to read more. I could not put the book down! It was very well written.
The Revelations of August Barton is a well-written follow up to The Tribulations of August Barton. In this book, the reader learns more about Augie’s past, as he begins to make strides toward his future. How does everything play out for Augie? And how does his anxiety affect what is happening? You’ll find out in this book!
The descriptive language is superior to that of the first book in the series and the reader is able to feel Augie’s emotions, and really connect with him as events unfold. I will eagerly be anticipating the next novella in this series!
This book was very much the antithesis of the first in the series, but in a decidedly enthralling direction. While the first book centered more about character development and Augie finding who he is, this installment kept me on edge as Augie tackled the relentless hurtles that tested him- down to the very last page.
I love that this book kept me on the edge of my seat until the end!
As others have mentioned, it's different from book 1, but it should be. In book 1, we were introduced to the characters. Now, we get to see what they're up to, and see what hurdles Augie has to overcome to get what he wants. I love that the characters continue to be so relatable. And, as always, Gertie is a hoot!
I wanted to love this book. I was excited to jump in, because although the first installment in this series had some pacing issues, the characters were very lovable and I wanted to see more of them. But my impressions of them in this second book were completely different, and I found them to be more annoying than endearing. Questionable decisions were made, and normally that type of conflict would be fine and interesting, but I didn't think the characters actually redeemed themselves enough by the end, so that contributed to my disappointment. I still found myself chuckling at some moments, and I do enjoy the author's humour, but unfortunately the plot and characters this time around just weren't for me.
(I received a free copy from the author via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review)
The Revelations of August Barton is the second novella of the August Barton series. My oh my, how the tides have changed for one of my favourite characters! Jennifer has beautifully juggled the mini-plots that guide this story. Ironically, there's an F-3 tornado that is looming somewhere in this story for Augie finds himself sucked into the vortex of family secrets, trying to secure an internship and cement his future with the beautiful Rose Varley. One of my favourite parts in this story is the dialogues between Diane and Gerty (I was crying), and I couldn't help but smile at the little twist with Duncan towards the end. I found myself thinking about Augie when I wasn't reading the book, and that's the magic of Jennifer, who creates memorable characters and engaging plots. A 4.5 star read! Even when things go south, you're rooting for Augie because he's endearing, sweet and kind.
I look forward to book three, and I know it's going to be worth the wait.
I received an ARC from Jennifer LeBlanc. This review has been left voluntarily.
A wonderful continuation of Augie's journey. Augie encountered some heartbreak during this book (no spoilers) which were ultimately necessary for his growth. I also enjoyed Diane's growth as a mother and person in this story. As always, Gertie steals the show and is always good for some laughs. I can't wait to read what happens next in Augie's life. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a good coming of age story that tackles some tough subjects such as anxiety and childhood issues that effect you into adulthood.
As with the first book in this series, if you're looking for well fleshed out characters and complex storylines, this is not the book for you.
August Barton has grown a little since the first installment and is getting ready to make some pretty major steps in his life. If he can just get past a few revelations that throw him for a curve and cause him to make some stupid decisions instead. Add to that a tropical trip for his mom and grandmother that opens up some deep wounds for the two of them, and you have chaos, confusion, and a love story that can withstand an F-3 tornado.
Significantly weaker than its predecessor, The Tribulations of August Barton, but enjoyable nonetheless. I found myself sympathising with Augie when he was betrayed and gaslit then found himself owing an apology. His maturity and growth from when we first met him in the previous novel is obvious, a truly loveable protagonist.
The same great characters from the first book with more wacky adventures! I had trouble connecting with Augie in this one, but I still saw learning and growth in him.
Have I ever said how much I love stories that bear personal relevance in my life? No? Well, I’m saying it now.
Sure, most of us can find some common thread in a story/character that can seamlessly be woven into our own lives. But Augustus Barton, aka Augie, represents a part of me that makes me feel awkward, and that part is, well, awkwardness itself. Don’t get me wrong, I can be a social butterfly when I want to, but that safe pupa of seclusion is always part of the cycle.
Yet, emerging from his own pupa, Augie has managed to do things I would never dream of doing myself – like performing in a band in front of people. From first meeting him in the Tribulations of August Barton, Augie’s character has evolved into one that he, and those around him, could be proud of.
But just as Augie seems to be on track in shaping his future, someone from his past pops up to derail everything and put an end to his carefully mapped-out plans; not only the plans pertaining to his career but also (more importantly) those surrounding Rose and their future together, which he had hoped to make more… permanent.
And this time Gertie isn’t around, because she and Augie’s mom have their own stuff to sort out in a galaxy far, far away… or at least on an island too far away to help August out of his predicament. Whether Augie succeeds or fails, I won’t say, because my spoiler-alert is stuck on quite a sensitive setting.
What I will say, though, is that LeBlanc is not only a good author who produced a story that resonated with me, but also a good writer, or a good editor, or both. I say this because I could actually enjoy the story without getting distracted by copious amounts of errors and style issues. I’ll also say that I’m relieved the author didn’t delete this novella the way she’d wanted to at one stage, as stated in her Acknowledgements.
While I thoroughly enjoyed both The Tribulations and The Revelations of August Barton, I get the feeling LeBlanc has an even greater future ahead of her than even she can envision. Her own pupa of creativity has opened, and she’s started to flex her wings in a serious way. And once she spreads those wings even wider, I cannot imagine anything holding her back.
In short, LeBlanc is an author to keep an eye on, so watch this space…
I received this book through Voracious Readers and I read it straight after the first one.
This time around August’s life seems to be on track, he’s living with his girlfriend, in a band with his best friend, has an interview for his dream job and his mother and grandmother are working through their past relationship and trying to get along.
Unfortunately for Augie, one poor decision during a rush of heightened emotions could cost him everything.
All our favourite characters are back and some secrets are revealed. With a few misunderstandings, a party bus of bridesmaids, a twister, a few too many shots and a herd of cows, this story keeps you involved as Augie tries to figure out what is truly important in his life and how to fix the mistakes he made.
I really enjoyed this story and theses characters and I’m glad I read it.
I enjoyed seeing August on his journey so I’m very glad this sequel exists! This installment also included more POVs but I feel it added to the meat of the story. We delve more into Diane’s (Angie’s mom) relationship with Gertie - there’s a tantra sex class involved💀 I had more emotional moments with this book compared to the first one. Things got really messy for Augie, I may have yelled at him a little. There were more revelations but you gotta read the book! I will tell you this little tidbit: Augie takes on a tornado for love. Thank you to @jleblancbooks via @voraciousreadersonly for this book, I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
Favorite Line: "If Hugh Hefner can do it, then so can I," Gertie said🔥😂
August Barton's life is just as ridiculous and fun in this book. He goes through a lot of emotions and unbelievable situations in just a few days.
Unlike the first book, this book was from both August and his mom's point of view. This really added a new perspective on the choices made around him and his reactions to learning painful information. I love that this book continued to look into August's anxiety and how it can make you feel so overwhelmed.
This is a great book for someone who wants an easy read with a lot of heart!
