From the vivid imagination of Matt Hickman comes a collection of thirteen short horror stories that are guaranteed to leave you feeling unsettled and disturbed. Featuring a foreword from Kyle M. Scott, Sinister Scribblings brings together a unique blend of stories, some of which have been previously published, others that are original pieces and only available within this collection. In this collection we meet a whole host of broken, deranged characters in a sequence of horrific circumstances, including a mother who is determined to seek vengeance upon the school thugs that are bullying her only daughter; a woman who’s lifestyle has spiralled out of control after finding her boyfriend in a more than compromising position; a man who once spent his life in the public eye, has fallen from the heights of stardom and is slowly rebuilding himself; a teenage boy, a daydreamer who enjoys chocolate eggs for breakfast, who finds himself unravelling a unique Easter gift; a cave dwelling creature who has a taste for young flesh; a mischievous young boy who finds himself upon the naughty list at Christmas; a man, who after recently losing his job, makes a compelling agreement with a strange figure in a bar; two twin sisters who battle it out in brutal style after a major misunderstanding; a group of friends on their friends stag night, who get more than they bargained for upon entering an abandoned hospital for a prank; a man who awakens in a terrifying situation, in a strange location following a party with his friends; a woman abandoned in her friend’s cabin at a picturesque lake during a thunder storm; a man who crashes his car whilst driving home and spotting the figure of woman in amongst the trees beside the road; a serial killer enduring complications whilst receiving the lethal injection. Featuring bonus stories from Stuart Keane, Andrew Lennon, Michelle Garza & Melissa Lason, C.M. Saunders, Daryl Duncan, Mark Nye and Dale Robertson. Sit back, relax and immerse yourself in these Sinister Scribblings.
Absolutely superb collection of truly horrifying shorts. No angle is left untainted with horror coming thick and fast in a variety of different styles. There are some really sadistic tales, and some ultra spooky ones. Every tale is a triumph but i have to admit Stag Night and The Storm, scared the crap out of me. What a massive talent Matt Hickman is, and as a bonus there are tales from some other excellent writers. Andrew Lennon, Dale Robertson, Daryl Duncan, Stuart Keane also contribute, and being a big fan of these talented writers made the bonus stories a real treat. C. M. Saunders, Mark Nye, & The Slaughter Sisters also contribute and they have gained a new fan in me. One of the best horror collections i've read. Not a single story is less than excellent.
The creepiest thing about this book is without a doubt the front cover, the bloody splattered Zippy is creepy as hell. The story it comes from in the book is so-so but bravo on the creepy imagine it works well. An average collection of ‘extreme’ horror. Easily not to everyone’s taste but sometimes it seems the story is just an exercise in how brutal can we be or gross or sexually explicit. Which is fine but it can get tiresome fast if the story behind it is not gripping enough (which admittedly will be a lot harder with short stories). There are some decent moments & horror is definitely very person specific. Still I love me a horror short story. It was a decent price & if you like your horror on the extreme side, give it a go. I dabble & it was worth a try. ‘Extreme’ will never put me off but it doesn’t make good horror (if done poorly in fact just the opposite) but variety is the spice of life and all that. I mean the next book I will be finishing is Harry Potter 6 lol
Matt Hickman is a very twisted individual. His stories can make your skin crawl and you sit in awe wondering just what other creepy horrific thoughts are in his head. I can't pick a favourite story as they're all quite unique in a sickening way. The bonus stories included in this book are also terrifying and written by some of the best horror authors out there. This book is not for anyone who has a weak stomach or if graphic sex and violence isn't your cup of tea. I highly recommend this awesome collection of shorts if you love horror that can shock, make your skin crawl and have you squirming in your favourite reading spot.
A great job of making me uncomfortable Mr Hickman. A mix of laughter, gore soaked mayhem, and just plain disturbing stories. Please don't stop. You have a gift!you're words flow so smoothly its like you do this without a struggle at all. I recommend this book to all Fans Of Modern Horror!
First of all Matt I loved the cover. Secondly the stories were brilliant especially Stag Night, Doracula made me giggle, The Cabin quite scary, can't remember all the names but I enjoyed each one. Thanks to other Author's whose stories I also enjoyed. Thanks Matt😄😄🔰
Definitely these stories are not for those easily scared or weak of heart. Matt and friends write stories that could keep you awake at night. Just remember to leave a light on....lol.
I honestly can't pick a favorite story as to they were all amazing. I absolutely loved how all the stories were twisted and gruesome in there own way. The bonus stories at the end were great! Thank you all for an incredible book!
Yes there are many stories lacking development but their short and the main intent is to horrify and be explicit, which this author does very well. Some of them are so sickening and violently described I found it refreshing and enjoyed it. Not a book / short stories with much depth but good fun.
A lot of these stories blew me away, always great to find new talent. The way they tied in with each other short of reminded me of those Candle Cove stories on Creepypasta. Really enjoyed it and some of the bonus stories were great too.
