Detective Alex Kane isn’t good at dealing with the innocent victims of crime. That is why he likes his job on the state police organized crime task force. Most of the bodies he encounters knew what they were signing up for. And when the inevitable setbacks and disappointments arise, he never feels too guilty. But Alex can’t insulate himself forever.
When a criminal organization is engaged in human trafficking and child pornography, Alex is drawn into a disturbing and dangerous world. A world where anonymous forces exploit young women and girls with impunity. A world where any mistake Alex makes could lead to the suffering of innocents. Can Alex pull the curtains back on this dark world before a young girl is lost forever?
In a world that can be so beautiful there is a very dark side that lies hidden...

There's a decent story teller in there somewhere. It's a pity they're hidden behind the typos and poor presentation. Time will tell, but I enjoyed several of the characters and hope to see them developed in later offerings. I wish we didn't keep getting samples & extracts pinned together to make a book. What's wrong with writing a complete story?
.... Then as I turned the page for the next chapter, it was a for view of the next book. I didn't realise when I got it it was going to be a short story, with a third of the book being a preview of the next book. Its a shame as it really was just getting good when it abruptly ended.
Reading the blurb from the next book, I'm not sure if the story follows from this one, it seams to be a completely different stand alone?. But I could be wrong. Only one way to find out, so I will give it a go.
This is the first book I've read by Carter Blake. Honestly I decided to try his story because he' s a Canadian boy!
I don't normally read thrillers because I get so immersed in the story, this however was definitely worth the read. Alex seems so hesitant about himself and his life. I'm not sure what is holding him back, but I'm very interested to find out. Going to be reading more of Carter Blake soon!
Not all people are what they seem and when Alex is looking for a missing girl, and then two, frustration builds as the leads get them no where.
Intense feelings and suspense carry the reader. I felt it sort of left you hanging at the end and it finished a lot sooner than I was wanting. But the good thing is I think there's more.
Alex knows better than to give a parent false hope but in this case he has to pull out all the stops. A young girl has been kidnapped and she has been offered for sale but the leads they have end in nothing. What will break this case and will they be able to stop this happening to other young girls? Alex is just able to admit defeat when they get a solid lead and what makes matters worse is that he was at that house and they couldn't find anuything. Will they be in time or would the young girl have already been shipped off? What Alex witnesses makes him even more determine to find out why his father was killed. Will he get justice eventually? A good read.
(Sorry if this review gives off triggers or anything of that nature but this book isn't for those who have suffered any kind of abuse)
Well I guess this book was okay. I did enjoy it and I didn't. I have problems with short stories, I always want them to be longer or explain more in the beginning. this one was slow but very disturbing but an eye opener to human trafficking and child sexual abuse. I gave this book 3 stars because it was slow but I believe it gave justice to abuse in it's story.
Warning: It has an ending that isn't an ending. I hate books that leave on a cliffhanger or when the last line sounds like the beginning of more to come, or worse that the last line sounds like the beginning of the story (which is the category this small novella falls into.)
It was a good read up until the last paragraph where I wanted to toss the book against the wall and scream ughhh (for the above reason).
It could have been a good story on it's own without the last paragraph.
Well written and fast paced. I loved it. It ended all to soon, probably as I could not put it down. The two main characters were very believable and the way the police worked was well researched. Very well done to the author. You may be new to writing but I certainly didn't know that till the end. This book comes highly recommended by me.
I started this book and then I finished this book. The Characters, the plot, the message didn't leave any mark, I couldn't begin to describe what this was about... Disappointing, I shan't be queueing for the next book in the series. (I have read worse, I would have given 1.5 out of five (or 3 out of 10), if I had the option.
Intense short story and a preview of what looks to be a fascinating novel. meet Detective Alex Kane. The detective is a man who hates crime, especially when it hurts children. That's exactly what is going on in this book when missing children are beings used and abused. Alex is doing everything he can to prevent that and stop the bad guys.
Really worth a read. Brilliant characters and storyline and looking forward to the free second book I've just downloaded from him. Only downside is the number of spelling mistakes.
Long winded explanations of the day or places made the book drag slightly the story itself was good but short and simple. I'd still recommend people to read the book
I found this book to be well written to an extent, but there were lots of spelling mistakes throughout the story and this took focus away from the plot. The ending was rather abrupt and left nothing to look forward to sadly.
I am afraid there were too many incorrect use of link words which did not fit; it needed to be proof read. Nearly put it down as I had to re-read to make sure it wasn't me! Then of course it was not a complete book .....
I've given it 3 as its only first part of a story which you then need to get the rest emailed to you, which for me is not happening as I have no idea how to get ebooks from my email on laptop to my kindle, so I think 3 is fair for a story that might or might not be any good
Excellent is the only word i can describe it. Didn't want it to end
Brilliant book a must read for all ages.I would definitely recommend this author.as a rule i don't normally read thrillers but thought I'd give it a go and it didn't disappoint
Really short story that appears unfinished when it ends in first half of the book. the other half appears to he a teaser for another story or could just be another half finished story
This is a pre-quel to a larger novel setting out the story and characters. Certainly readable with strong personalities but subject matter not for me. Make you own choice.
Good story involving some tropical issues but an unsatisfactory read too short and the story just stops with the storylines all up in the air. Don't bother.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
