It should be noted, that within the first section of this book the author takes great pains to elude to the idea that magic, Wicca, and Witchcraft are all the same thing and virtually interchangeable words - a pitfall many newbies to New Age woo~ stuff fall prey to.

The fact remains that Wicca is a relatively new Pagan religion and that Witchcraft has existed around the globe for a millennia independent of religion or coexisting with it. But they are NOT the same thing. A Wiccan and a Witch may have vastly different ideas of what magic is, where it comes from, and how to use it. Neither are wrong, just different.

I also don't like the tone the author takes with Dark Witches vs Light Witches - not only is this terminology firmly entrenched in racism/colonialism, so is its moral superiority. It's no secret that many African-derived magic practices and faiths do employ some ritual and spell-work elements that are not for the faint of heart, but to paint them as "dark" or evil or bad just reinforces the stereotype that all "White People Magic" is good and clean and pure and that anything else (i.e. the magical traditions of other non-white cultures) is less good, less clean, and less pure. Straight up racist sh*t and it's an ongoing problem in the New Age community that, clearly, we need to keep addressing.

If I could give this book no stars, I would, just for that beginning alone.

Beginners intro to wicca

I personally am not to familiar with Wicca but it is something I've been interested in learning about since I have met a few practitioners throughout my life. After reading this introduction I do feel like I learned some things but allot of it I feel I could have found online and was very generalized. I did like the authors personal stories and quips which did make me smile. I just wouldn't call this an intro to spells so much as an intro to Wicca itself and some fundamentals of its practice.

*I won this in a Goodreads giveaway*

The author did confuse witchcraft and Wicca but besides for that, there is a lot of info in this book. It gives a great little snippet of so many different things that one can look up later and get more in depth with whatever topic tickles your fancy. It's well written and the author has an easy to understand why of approaching each topic. All in all, a very great introductory to New Age topics.

Short and concise

It's been a long while since I've last read a book on Wicca. Usually I have found them frustrating to wrap my head around. Whether it's due to maturity or the way this book is written, I found this to be much more helpful and enlightening than any of the others I have read. Definitely a good choice of read for a budding Wiccan.

*I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. The review is my own honest opinion and unsolicited.

Good

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. Truthfully I really did not know what to expect, however, my husband is clairaudient and we discussed expanding our knowledge base. I think this book was a great start for that and also provides resources to continue if we wish. Enjoy!

Short but very Informative

A short but concise and informative book. Packs a lot of tools and definitions into less than 100 pages. I bookmarked about 2/3rds and will be rereading regularly. Also lists other books to peruse.
Note I received this as a giveaway.
