Doug Archer got hooked on writing in grade three. He wrote a story about giant tarantulas attacking a small town -- and his classmates loved it! He's been writing stories ever since.
He started scribbling down notes for the Cold Case Kids Mysteries after one of his sons asked him if there had ever been any pirates on the Great Lakes. Three years later, those notes turned into the first book in the series, Ghoul's Gold, a story about three eleven-year-olds, a haunted lighthouse, a zombie, and a hunt for pirate treasure on the mysterious Chantry Island on Lake Huron.
It didn't stop there. The success of Ghoul's Gold, and the positive response from readers to the Cold Case Kids and their zombie friend, Angus, led to two more books in the series: Legend of the Phantom Reaper and Dead Man's Tale.
And there's more to come: Doug is currently at work on book four!
Doug resides in Port Elgin, Ontario, a five-minute drive from Southampton, the setting of the Cold Case Kids Mysteries.
My son Elliot gives this book 5/5 stars! He loved the zombies and ghouls. His fave character was Brogan because he’s very brave. His favourite scene was when they finally found the treasure.
His mom loved all the details about port Elgin and Southhampton where we live. She runs by Morpeth street a lot and it is a GREAT name for a villain. Thanks Doug!
Great tale; I am 73 and I thought it was great. Good guys and bad guys alike trying to solve a mysterious puzzle that will give them the Treasure. Easy to read and satisfying.
