Have you read My Fair Assassin yet? Oh my, go do so, just so you can read this book! Ok to be fair(no pun intended), My Fair Assassin was a great book, but it was a beginning for these characters and creating and building this fae world. And let me tell you C.J. Anaya can definitely build some amazing worlds. And on the plus side...My Fair Assassin is just a short novella that won't take you very long to read, My Fair Traitor on the other hand is a good length novel that will have you turning pages trying to figure out how Crysta and Jareth are going to survive all the turmoil that's going on around them.

Traitor picks up right where Assassin finishes and we have Jareth trying to train Crysta so that she will be ready to enter the Fae world. We know from Assassin that Crysta is considered a threat to the Fae realm and has many assassins after her. They are constantly showing up throughout this book and causing a delay to Crysta in her search to discover more about her parents and how to learn more about her kingdom so she can protect it....and most importantly how she and Jareth can overcome the major obstacle keeping them apart.

There's some pretty shocking information given at the beginning of this book but unfortunately if C & J(Crysta and Jareth because for the most part they're linked and not separated and probably won't be in my review either-lol) reveal this info. to anyone then there are some serious repercussions in store.

I love all the new characters that are showing up in this book...ok, maybe not all the new characters. There are definitely some pretty crazy ones to watch out for. But the allies that C & J come across are pretty endearing in my mind. There's the scary ones that turn out to be good, there's smooth characters that you are cheering for that go crazy, there's smooth characters that you think are good and end up totally contradicting your belief of them. Wowsers! But I will say I did have my suspicions about one character and whether they were really good or just trying to cause trouble for C & J.

I have another suspicion about Crysta's character and origins and I'm pretty sure I'm right about it. The signs are all there but I think it'll probably be a big reveal in the beginning to middle of book 3. When you read this see if you can figure it out and if you're right. Can't wait for that reveal because that'll explain a lot. I know I'm not being helpful in giving any pertinent information for you readers looking for spoilers, but I just don't like spoiling the journey of reading a book. When I read I love to assimilate every little detail into the big puzzle. I don't like getting information before I should because then my mind can't run through all the different scenarios in trying to figure out what's coming. That's all part of the joy of reading, in my opinion.

The Fae world is pretty amazing. You don't get to explore it too much as a reader but the different makeup of the world, creatures, species, places and history, are explored as Jareth is teaching Crysta more about her world. There are a couple creatures I'd love to meet and a couple I'm ok to not ever meeting.

Deceit, power, hidden messages, a soul link, sickness, history, mermaid, fiances(yes plural on purpose), age old power struggle, siblings, magic, dragon, fire, disappearing races, trolls, Amber globe, infinity rings, broken promises, humans, love of the century, palaces, winter, black magic, cliffhanger, ballet(not as prevalent as book one but I'm hoping more will come into play in book 3), fated mates.

Those are some little snippets that you'll discover in this gem of a fantasy book. Ok I'm not giving this little plug here just to give it, in all honesty I love C.J. Anaya's writing. I've read almost all of her books and have loved every single one that I've read. She has written in a couple different genres and the transition from one to the other wasn't noticeable. If you are a fantasy lover, you really should check read the My Fair Assassin series, but especially her The Healer series. Not a fantasy lover? Then check out her book Marry Your Billionaire.

Content: Not squeaky clean but one I would let my children read as they reach the older teenage years. The only thing that keeps me from letting them read it now is some mild swearing. Usually this author has a couple swear words in her books, but Traitor had several more scattered throughout than her usual. Mostly just the word damn. There is mention of a rape, nothing graphic just the fact that it happened to Crysta and subsequent talk about her healing and learning to live after it happened. *The author's note discusses why she added this in and I highly recommend you taking time to read it, whether you have experienced rape or sexual abuse yourself, know someone who has, or not at all, it is worth taking time to read.* Some talk of sex, nothing graphic, mostly that Crysta and Jareth will wait until after they are married. Some sweet kisses and a few steamy kisses.

I received an ARC from the author but have also purchased my own copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

This is the second book in this series of I don't know how many books. :) I'm not sure if this book is labeled YA or NA but the voices and style lend itself to sound YA to me.

I've been in a paranormal mood lately and this book definitely fits that hankering. There are all kinds of paranormal creatures in this book. Jareth and Crysta start the series (book one, My Fair Assassin) in our world where Crysta finds out who she really is. This book brings them to Jareth's world where Crysta comes face to face with her past and where she belongs. There are dark and evil things happening all through the realm and Jareth and Crysta are struggling to find the answers.

I sure didn't like the cliff hanger ending in this book. There is a lot of drama going on (oh, the drama) and I can't give things away, but I'm not a fan of big cliff hanger endings. I was left frustrated and I don't like that as a reader. I was frustrated because I was unhappy with how things were going and then it just ended. Boo. I'm not good at waiting for future books to bring resolution. Me=Impatient

Content: Mild swearing, mild violence

-I received a copy of this book from the author. A positive review was not required and all opinions expressed are my own.

4,25 stars - Englis Ebook

At book’s end CJ offers the following Author’s Note, well worth repeating, especially for potential readers of this novel MY FAIR TRAITOR. ‘Developing Crysta’s character has been a bit cathartic for me in the sense that many of the things I grappled with as a teenager were things I gave to Crysta to deal with and eventually overcome. The concept of loving and accepting yourself was an important one I wish I would have learned at a younger age, and that’s why I’ve been so eager to help family members and others learn it sooner than I did. The subject of rape and sexual abuse was one I had to battle with for many years. Just like Crysta. I spent a lot of time pretending that what happened to me when I was young and defenseless had never happened at all. I failed to see that burying the trauma of that experience ended up coloring every aspect of my life from my choices in clothing, to my friends, and especially in relationships and the type of men I found myself attracted to. When you don’t value yourself, bad boys tend to be the name of the game, and rarely do they value you on any level. Since you’re incapable of saving yourself you feel this overwhelming desire to save them. Always turns out badly in the end. I also learned that I wasn’t the only one suffering from the effects of sexual abuse, but I wasn’t willing to talk about it or help others through it until I finally admitted the reality of my situation when I was twenty-three.
I had to fix myself first. You really can’t be of much use to anyone when you’re all broken inside. Once I stopped blaming myself, stopped believing I was worthless, and started to believe I deserved to be loved and cherished, I began to notice others in similar situations. There’s a specific type of body language inherent in those who have been abused. You look for exits in a crowded room. You position yourself in a certain way based on the amount of people or the sex of the people within the same room as you.’ Tender, thoughtful, caring – and a very fine setup for this novella.

‘It's not everyday a girl gets married to a faerie prince of the Seelie Court. After swearing their love and loyalty to one another, Jareth is bound and determined to teach Crysta all she must learn to become queen of the Unseelie Court. But when Crysta and Jareth are attacked in the human realm, a journey to the Fae realm is put into play earlier than planned. Their hopes for marriage and a happily ever after are thwarted when their bonding fails and attempts on Crysta's life continue. That's not all they have to worry about. A magical plague has permeated the land, causing Fae everywhere to weaken and die, solidifying King Moridan's objections to their union. Jareth and Crysta must fight for their right to love each other in a world full of beings who believe their fated mate bond is a threat to the Fae realm and every faerie who inhabits it. Is their love preordained or poisonous? There's only one way to find out.

Please take note - read the books in order.
Otherwise you will not follow I think.

This book had kind of a slow start compared to My Fair Assassin, but after just finishing it I can honestly say I found it to be better than the first book. There were much more drama, romance, conflicts, twists and turns than I anticipated and I am both glad and relieved.

I was a bit let down starting to read since it felt like there weren’t much happening. It was pretty much practice with Crysta’s magic and seeing the relationship take place. Even though that particular aspect had my toes curling, it wasn’t the same heat or excitement between them that I felt from the first book. So I was afraid that My Fair Traitor wasn’t going to measure up. Thank god I was wrong! As soon as the action started I was hooked! I loved all the different conflicts and how it played out with Crysta’s and Jareth’s relationship. Although, it might have been a smudge too much conflicts taking place, but not too overdone that it bothered me.

Sadly, there was things about Crysta that I felt actually was a bit too overdone. Her humorous remarks being one. In My Fair Assassin it was perfectly balanced with her more serious human and insecure side, so it didn’t take over or bug me that much. In this book it was just too much ... well, simply just too much at times. It also annoyed me how she got special allies, friends, admirer/wooer and even a pet completely devoted to her with a snap of her fingers (metaphorical snap of course). There were no building or developing bonds. It just happened out of nowhere and straight away, which just was too unrealistic for me to get on board.

I make it seem like I didn’t like Crysta at all now, but quite the contrary. In some ways I liked her even more than in book one. Some secrets from her horrible upbringing was revealed and it really helped me understand her and feel for her better. I also really liked how her insecure side took the shape of jealousy and how that drama formed in the bond between her and Jareth. Before that the relationship was, not dull per say, but everything was always good between them and the dispute helped it be more relatable, complex and intriguing.

I don’t know if it was intentional or just complete accidental, but I loved the “history repeating itself” theme going on. I found it very cleverly written in there since the matter wasn’t right in the reader’s face but rather hidden between the lines. It might have been an accident and I don’t know if the next book is going to pick up on that theme, but I sure hope so. In short, it gave the story depth that the first book was lacking. And even if My Fair Traitor could be touched up a bit in pace and development, I am ecstatic over how good it was. It blew my expectations away! I only hope My Fair Imposter does so too.

I am voluntarily reviewing a complimentary review copy of this book.

If you haven't read My Fair Assassin then stop here and read that first. This book will hardly be enjoyable without starting from the beginning.

This book starts out seventeen years ago with the King and Queen of the Unseelie court hiding out from an unknown enemy. They leave the fae relm for the human world. Crysta has already been born but they plan on switching their baby for a human and leaving Crysta to be raised by a human family. The Queen is broken hearted.

"She turned to look one last time at her hospital where her daughter peacefully slept. I'll come for you, she whispered. No matter what we discover." But she never came back because the Queen did no survive.

Crysta is trying to learn how to use her powers and Jereth is there to help her learn but progress is slow. They venture out to the local library to get some idea from the books there, when the library comes under attack by the Stargis race of fae. After their defeat, the king of the Stargis gives Crysta his crystal power. Jereth soon takes them away to the Unseelie court to protect Crystal from other assassination attempts and to find more clues about what is going on. Unbeknownst to them, uncovering her truth is going to be quite difficult and the two of them may not be together in the end.

This second book is very different from the first. Crysta's life is constantly in harms way. There are several times when she is attacked but survives because of her friends and new protectors she finds in the Fae relm. There is Groal, Lily, her uncle, and the mermaid. All help Crysta to learn about herself and her role in the Fae relm.

Through all this explanation and assassination attempts, this book does drag on a bit. Things move at a much slower pace. But the purpose is important to set up for the next book. It was just the getting there.

Crysta loses her voice in this book. Her quick quibs are not as abundant and funny as in the first book. She is more subdued and so the story isn't as entertaining as the first. Jereth is still around but he leaves often to explore leads for answers. Crysta’s uncle, the King, helps as much as he can.

I do like what the author came up with and her world building. The characters describe the world to Crysta because she has never been there before. Things are explained to Crysta but yet, also explained to the reader.

Jereth contines his work to find answers to Crysta's story. She is now under a binding spell to suppress her powers and, if broken, it will kill her. He is still as determined here as he was before. Jereth's character doesn't seem to change as much.

There is intrigue here. At times I wasn't sure who to trust. Crysta seems to take all the characters are face value. She doesn't understand that she needs to be leary of people, but she does.

Overall, I was surprised with the ending of this book. It ends with a massive cliffhanger. I want the third book now. I hope we get the original Crysta back. I hope certain people burn for being traitors.

Content: use of damn and hell, otherwise clean

I recieved a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Chrysta has found out she is fae and not human, but had been a changeling when still a baby, so all she believed about her past life was based on this massive lie which threatened to overwhelm her. However Jereth, her fae prince whom she had bonded herself to, stood by her side intent on teaching her about his realm. They had not intended to marry so early on in their relationship as Chrysta was just eighteen years old, but when they were attacked in the human realm and had to travel quickly to the fae realm they had to make their bond more secure. Jereth was ready to give up his birth right in order to protect Chrysta's life, so he soul bonded them. He believed that since the threat was coming from the summer fae, and they would not kill the heir to their throne, by soul bonding he would be protecting Chrysta, but others seemed to see this as a real threat to their lives and the balance of the magic in the fae realm. Never had a couple bonded when they came from different and opposed courts, and Chrysta was the heir to the winter fae court. Dangers abound in this heart stopping book, monsters appear trying to kill her, but amidst all of this others were giving her their own magic and trusting her to look out for them. I love Chrysta's familiar, he is adorable but hate that she and Jareth were surrounded by evil betrayers. Can they make their love and bond work for the good of the unseelie and seelie courts? Can they prove everyone wrong?

This is a wonderful novel. The two lead characters, already well developed in book 1, continue to grow. The supporting cast (both friend and foe - though membership in these camps is subject to change) is superb, the world-building very original and simply too-notch. Once again CJ Anaya has given her readers a well written novel with a plot that many layered and full of unanticipated twists and turns. The only real downside is that there's a cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers. If they don't bother you then a 5th star may make sense. If you find them abhorrent then subtract a star. Personally, as much as I dislike them, this book was too good to penalize over the cliffhanger. Highly recommended.

I loved the story, especially her pet Dragon Chuck. I think he was my favorite in the whole story with his personality and the way he came to her aid or how he showed his emotion. I thought the story was good. I liked how the author was able to fit so many fantasy creatures and still make the story work. I wish the books were combined. It was very detailed and very convoluted in parts. I had to reread a few sections a few times to really understand what was going on. I would say this is the only downside. I could understand why she was so trustworthy but part of me wished she was less trusting especially of his brother. I loved the big twist in the story and felt blind sided by it. I want to find out what happens next because that betrayal is just awful.

This book grabbed me from the get go, I was unable to put it down! C.J. Anaya brings you into a completely new world where you get to learn so much more about the Fae. You stay on this journey with Crysta and experience what she is going through. You see her struggle with learning to accept someone might love her as well as all how she must save herself and Jareth. This story ends with a wicked cliff hanger one of the ones where you want to throw the book across the room and yell at the book to continue! With that said I am patiently waiting for the next installment to come out and am praying it is soon!!!

This story is Amazing

A book full or mystery, romance, action, with a main character that is kind, amazing but doesn't have a clue what is going on. This story is wrapped in magic making it a awesome read. I love the main character, she is down to earth and will prove to be one badass leader. This story will leave you wanting more. Make sure to read book one first.

Couldn’t put it down

You will definitely need to read this book after the first in the series, but goodness once started it was hard to put down!! I just had to know what was going to happen next. And oh my word- it ends with such a cliffhanger, you’ll definitely want the next book ready and waiting to start immediately after!

Thank you so much for your help with the character and her struggle with her past. This is a discussion of convinced pain in young women today and our broken society. Hopefully it will, and your truth will help many more young women open up and talk ,and heal! Thanks

I can’t believe I’ve had this series on my TBR pile and in my Kindle for over a year before I finally pulled them up and read them. I’m astounded to realize how this series has affected me for the good. It is so well written and full of magic, imagination and creativity. I’m totally blown away! The protagonist, Crysta, is a very strong character. Equally as strong is her fated mate, Jareth. I also love the many and various magical characters developed within these pages. Also, to the contrary, the devious characters who had embedded themselves close to Crysta lying to her and weaving spells around her to keep power over her, had my insides boiling. I found it hard to think that she kept going along with their evil remaining oblivious no matter how many characters had tried to convince her of their deceit. I suppose if you realized that you have been lied to long enough by those who were supposed to love you then you can find it hard to believe anyone and anything after that. I have experienced this first hand in my own personal life so it really isn’t that hard to believe her reactions. I also appreciated the author‘s candid notes revealing her own personal experiences with this subject, so it is completely believable that Crysta acted the way she did. This is a wonderful story that all lovers of fantasy at any age would find most enjoyable and heartfelt. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series and it will NOT remain on my TBR pile for more than one second.
