In Soft Focus is a new genre for Michele Shriver, and it's also my first time reading an M/M romance. I've read books from her before, so I knew In Soft Focus was a good choice to pick as my first read in the genre.

Reece White is a secondary character in a previous novel, Fade Into Love. When I heard he would be getting a story, I was intrigued.

Reece has it all- a successful career, he's doing what he loves, but there's one thing missing- love. He doesn't make it a secret that he's gay, and he now has his eyes and heart set on Courtland Landry, the actor starring in Reece's latest movie. While working, Reece is known to be difficult, because he's passionate about what he does and wants the movies to turn out perfect. Off screen, he's more of a vulnerable guy who wants to give his heart away to Court.

Court, however, is struggling with his true identity. He's still new to the acting business, and not everyone wants him to come out and be okay with who he is.But his feelings for Reece are strong, and it doesn't help that they're working together, as well.

Watching these two figure things out was beautiful. Love isn't black and white. There's so many aspects to it, and it doesn't have to be between a man and a woman. The heart doesn't go with society's wishes, the heart loves unconditionally and without bias. being in the public eye adds so much stress if you already don't 'fit the mold' of what the world wants you to be.

A well done story, and I'm glad I took a chance.

In Soft Focus by Michele Shriver
This is Oscar winning movie director, Reese White and up and coming actor Courtland (Court) Landry's story.

Wow!! Michele Shriver knows how to deliver a hot and steamy romance. But this story goes deeper and shows that fame and fortune can't bring you happiness if you don't have someone to share it with. Reese has never hid who he was. Now, Courtland feels that he has to hide who he to have a chance at being a famous actor. The chemistry between Reese and Courtland is intense and hot. Will Courtland be able to show the world who he really is before Reese gives up on him?

Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. I know when I see a book by this author no matter the genre that it's going to be great. I throughly enjoyed this book. A great book to escape from everyday life.

FYI, contains mature content.  This is MM romance.

Who said love has to be straight? This book was really great. I loved both of the main characters even though they were both male. It was beautiful and touching and proves that love comes in all different forms. And it's the one thing that is coveted by most. Yeah, you can have awards and money but, this book shows us that love is just as important if not more important than the material things in life. This book has great characters and an excellent story that will keep you interested. Tasteful and hot. This is one of Michele's best books yet.

Hmmm slushy

Good sex but storyline slow. Worth a read though.
The Aug her seems to apply good knowledge of male to male relationships.

Cold, superficial, paint-by-numbers writing and robotic characters.

This book was.... (sorry to say) horrible. It was shallow and the relationships didn't make sense! It felt like a part of the story (the good and interesting part) was missing. There was no relationship development at all - let alone any kind of character or plot development either.

This book read more like a how to produce a movie - behind the scenes, there was just too much focus on camera angling and filming scenes for this short of a novel. It just didn't fit.

It was beyond shallow - puddles are deeper than this book. And when there was the slightest inkling of a liiitle bit depth, the scene was cut off as effectively as a director yelling cut!

3 Hearts

I think my least favorite types of books are the ones where one or both main characters are instantly in love with no reason given as to why. There’s really no emotional build-up between these two characters. They work together; ones in the closet and the other seem to have a crush, the next thing I knew love was being hinted at. I didn’t get it. It wasn’t believable. I was also not a big fan of the flashback style in which this story was written. I was already frustrated not feeling a connection with the characters then the flashback/flash-forward thing didn’t help at all.

Reece White, an award winning Director has just offered Courtland Landry the job of his dreams, lead actor in a very promising upcoming movie. What Courtland doesn’t know but soon realizes is aside from the fact that Reece truly believes Court is talented he also has feelings that go beyond professional. Courtland attracted to Reece as well jumps at the opportunity to be more. But Court is deep in the closet and scared to damage his career before it truly starts.

There’s sneaking around, homophobic managers, snarky side characters and some silly machinations. Overall, this didn’t really work for me. Maybe more relationship buildup and character development would have helped. I couldn’t get into this, unfortunately.
