just finished reading this with a grieving/arching heart for lucas 😭 i will create a scene or book 2 in my head where lucas is alive.

this book is one of my fav it's enjoyable however the romance between shia and gin i don't feel connection coming from them and it happened so fast. the plot is kinda cliche for me but i understand since this story was created in 2014.

Although it was entertaining, this is just not my cup of tea.
It's too predictable for me. There's no oompf factor like I would want in a fantasy book. It spent the 2/3 of the book talking about this big game that everyone's competing for (which by the way, what's the point? I need more explanation). The characters are bland, no depth at all. They felt like stock characters mashed together with a cliche storyline that felt lacking. I was waiting for things to turn around, hoping the next chapter gets better but it doesn't. There's this weird back and forth thing about the big event. It would have been more interesting to read about what happens during the game, how will they survive. The potential to be a great fantasy read is right there. I love a good ol' fashion orphan-learns-about-the-magical-world.
I wish it could have been more.

i feel like some of it's plot is based off the hunger games competition. also, im dissatisfied with the ending because i was hoping for the end of the linus cup and that their kind will have their own division but maybe its just my ego talking here. Anw, its a good read for me and i love how the characters grew throughout the story. Recommended!

My first book in 2025—what a way to start a year. I’ve always wanted to read this book since 2021 pa ata, but I never got the chance kasi paid siya sa app. I bought the physical copy last december and I was only able to read it now! I’m so happy I did.

I’d rate this book a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. The story’s main focus was on the game and the protagonist, Shia, as she fought to get out of the academy. While there were multiple moments of romantic tension between characters, I’d consider the romance a side genre—something that, in my opinion, made the story better. I really enjoy it when romance doesn’t take center stage, allowing the main plot to shine.

One character that only stood out to me from the very beginning until the final chapters was Lucas. Despite having only few chapters and was only mentioned few times, his presence left a huge impact, likely because of the emotional weight of his death.

To be honest, the pacing felt rushed at times, making it hard to connect fully with the other characters, especially the male lead. While they all had distinct traits, I didn’t feel a strong connection with most of them. The fast pacing left little room to truly get to know them, which made it harder to fully invest in their stories. That said, I really appreciated that each one of them has different personality, I only wish we’d gotten to see more of the group.

As for Shia and Gin, I enjoyed their moments together, but while reading the last few chapters of the book, part of me wanted Shia and Lucas. I can see how much they both loved each other. I bawled my eyes out when Lucas died, he didn't deserve that, but at the same time, it made sense within the harsh reality of a survival game. As much as I wish he had lived, I don’t think his story could have ended any other way.

For me, the book is good as it is, but it has so much more potential. The main character feels real and isn’t the submissive type, which I liked. The male lead was also well-written, and the tension between them worked. What threw me off were the transitions from memories to the present. They were hard to follow and packed with too much information at once. The story could’ve explored more of the past, like what really happened during Hesperia’s first win at the Linus Cup, the story of Apollo and Miss Aura, who Priam’s girl was, or how he was as a brother to Gin. I also wanted to know what happened after the Linus Cup and the party. Did Shia and Grey get married? I also wished there were more scenes showing Shia’s abilities. She could’ve done more during the Linus Cup, but there were only short fight scenes. I also wanted to see how Victoria, Gin, Cain, Ethan, and Luna fought and earned their points. Too many questions were left unanswered. That’s why my Grade 7 self still can’t move on from this story lol i love this story sm

chapters 1 to 40

The translation is quite weird but it's pretty entertaining. I guess it's midway between The Hunger Games and Gakuen Alice even though i'm still waiting for the survival game part of it.
The main problem about this story, despite the weird flow of the prose, is the characters. None of them are endearing, the main character is too pessimist and bitchy and the love interest seriously need to die.
There is also a different PoV other than the MC once in a while, from one of the supporting characters. It's completely useless and add nothing to the story. A more important character would make more sense, but maybe he's gonna become more present later.

Anyway, it's still entertaining but definitely not the read of the year.

I give this book a 5-star rating because it captured my heart from the very first time I read it on Wattpad. I was in 8th grade then, and now college student, it still holds a special place for me.

The memories, excitement, and thrill of reading it for the first time are moments I can't recreate. This book played a significant role in shaping my love for fantasy, magic, and superpowers. It was a delightful and captivating journey that made a long lasting impression to me that's why I always coming back to this book.

Lucas's story still brings me to tears, touching my heart even now. I admire Miss April Avery since my first read of "Charm Academy." I've been a fan ever since, and her stories introduced me to the enchanting world of magic. I'm forever grateful for her wonderful works.

I liked this book at my first read but as I look back and reread, we can't deny the fact that The Linus cup is very similar to The Hunger Games. I mean, it's not bad that it's kinda similar but what's the point of The Linus Cup? Why did they start it? Will it ever end? Because as far as I remember, the hunger games started because of the districts' rebellion, but in the linus cup's case, they didn't explain why they even started it, is it a pointless competition? Just for entertainment? Overall, this book is okay, just needed clarity why the linus cup started, and why it didn't end after Shia's team won.

One of my faves. When it comes to fantasy books on Wattpad, April Avery never disappoints. The setting, the visual description, the plot, the characters- everything is a masterpiece. The author said this book was inspired by "The Hunger Games", and this was the very reason why I read the hunger games because I wanted to read more books like Titan Academy (Fantasy academies are dabest)

4.6 🌟

The book is such a page turner.
It has some common elements and tropes but it was interweave together so well.
I think the book was too short, it should've talked more about the other side characters too. Well... Regardless of that, I gave it 4+ cause it's really easy to read.
Recommended for beginners.

the male character (Gin) has no personality and bland. he's there but he doesn't do much. there's not enough depth for any characters, even for the protagonist (Shia). basically, the characters, story, plot, and storytelling remained bland and a mashed of tropes throughout the book. it's basically what keeps you reading the story. it was not bad but it wasn't good as well.

I highly recommend this book if you're a beginner reader and loves fantasy romance! The writing is so good and the characters are a masterpiece. There's no loopholes and you can say that the story was very thought about. The author did an impressive job for the plot twist.

i have a confession to make: una ko 'tong nabasa bago THG series so i ate this up when i was 11 😭

the action scenes were the best part of the book! walang dull moment and ang ganda ng pagkakasulat. the arena was heavily inspired by the 74th games but i liked the usage of the point scoring system.

disappointing lang yung characterization, specifically the lack of depth of the main characters. i didn't like Grey as a character and as a male lead. i liked Shia, pero i wanted to know more about her special ability and i wished na she had this journey where mas nagamay niya yung paggamit nito. also, i personally didn't like the plot twist about Shia's origins. i would've loved it more if she remained as some random orphan and didn't have the typical protagonist plot twist.

but overall, this will always be a core childhood memory.
