Knight & Culverhouse #6

In the Name of the Father

Rate this book
An anonymous phone call reveals a horrifying secret. But can it be murder if there isn't a body?
Father Joseph Kümmel is not just a deeply religious and spiritual man. He's the leader of a closed religious community at Hilltop Farm — one which kills members who want to leave.

When someone manages to get messages to DCI Jack Culverhouse and DS Wendy Knight about the goings-on at Hilltop Farm, they begin to uncover a web of dark deception and murderous intent. With a distinct lack of evidence and a community distrustful of the police, they’re left fighting against the odds.

The stakes are raised when their attempts to charge Father Joseph are blocked by higher powers. Will they be able to uncover the truth in time to stop his plans for a far more sinister fate for the residents of Hilltop Farm?

This is another great read by Adam Croft. As the other books in this series you will not want to put it down. The detectives come to life once again in this gripping novel. You will also enjoy all the back stories and how Adam so skillfully ties them into his current story line. I truly enjoy the writing because Adam has a way of pulling you into each scene, you will feel like you are there trying to solve this big case with the detectives. But as I have said in the past. If you are looking at this book as a read and you didn't read all of the series from the beginning, go back and look for the first book you will not be disappointed.

Knight & Culverhouse do it Again

I start with I could not stop reading "In The Name of the Father". The story immediately catches your fancy. Jack & Wendy are in the middle of a case that seems like there is no crime! A creepy priest who is in charge of a cult. A run down Mission, which is more like a prison. People & children who disappeared! You must read this book

Adam is such an incredibly talent author. He just seems to keep getting better and better. I don't usually read crime, but this series is fabulous. The characters I love, Jack and Wendy. Amazing. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Horrible tales from a farm

We're people being killed at the farm? The farm was being used by a religious group but the members were not allowed to come and go as they wanted. Was this a cult? Reports of people missing alerted the police. What did they find?

Excellent book

Well Adam Croft does it again – another excellent chapter in the Knight and Culverhouse series. This one was quite haunting, especially at the end when it is disclosed what has really been going on at Hilltop Farm! We start with an extremely strange chapter in which someone is talking about getting a message out but not being able to make it long or detailed. This immediately piques our interest and sets the scene for a series of mystifying and horrifying events to follow. The tale is told so that we see both sides of the story, so in effect we know what is going on but it takes the police until just over half the book before they finally get more information which enables them to request a warrant to search the commune and arrest Father Joseph Kummel. At that point the action starts to gain momentum until we reach the dramatic and quite horrifying conclusion. Throughout all this Jack Culverhouse struggles with getting to grips over having his estranged daughter back in his life whilst Wendy Knight has her own personal problems surrounding her brother.

All in all this is another excellent story which is so well written that it brings the characters to life and makes me wonder why I left it so long since I read the last one.

I absolutely love the culverhouse series and I have to say that this is the best book in the series!!! It had me hooked from the beginning right through to the end!!!

Culverhouse is quite possibly the funniest character With his quick wit and comebacks.

When an anonymous tip of phone call is made regarding the hilltop community and a possible murder that has taken place its up to Wendy and culverhouse to get to the bottom of what's gone on but never in a million years would they ever expect to uncover what they uncovered.....

In the name of the father is an amazing addition to the culverhouse series and you will not be disappointed!!!

Hope there is lots more to come!!! Thanks for another amazing read!!!

I absolutely loved In the Name of the Father by Adam Croft. The characters were believable and flawed, doing their best to balance work with personal problems. The lack of evidence or concrete details about the mysterious reports coming out of Hilltop Farm kept me intrigued and turning the pages. I loved how realistic the ending was (where not everyone wins). While the author addressed a serious real-life problem in the book, it was presented in a very entertaining fashion. I'll definitely pick up more books by Adam Croft.

CULT LEADERS ARE A DISPICABLE LOT, SUPER CONTROL FREAKS. JACK & WENDY ARE VERY ANGRY PEOPKE, THEY SAY THEY LIKE BEING COPS BUT THEY ARE NEVER PLEASED ABOUT ANYTHING. THEY ARE TWO MISERABLE PEOPLE AND VERY DEPRESSING TO ME. THE STORY LINE IS MORE ABOUT PERSONAL PROBLEMS THAN ABOUT POLICE WORK. JACK & HIS WIFE ARE TERRIBLE PARENTS, NO WONDER THEIR CHILD ACTS THE WAY SHE DOES.I DON’T KNOW HOW THEY SOLVE ANY CRIMES. ONE THING I FOUND SORT OF FUNNY IN ENGLAND THEY CALL THEIR (HOUSING) PROJECTS, ESTATES. . . . REALLY? ;<

I'm sure that I've already submitted a review of this book. I enjoyed the book immensely It's quite worrying to read how some religious sects pickup abused, homeless and emotionally damaged people and then continue the abuse both physically and emotionally for their own benefit. It had a good ending but I must admit that I wanted greater retribution for those who committed the unpardonable sin of abusing damaged people.

Love the Knight & Culverhouse series. Finished this one as and have already started in Book 7 of this series. The characters are so convincing and the stories keep me wanting to read more. Small town but many murders that need solving plus everyday personal matters. If you like detectives and murder mysteries sometimes serial killer's and different murder scenarios these are for you. Highly recommend this author and this series. Back to reading Book 7.

I keep saying these books get better with each new story and the 6th book in this series did not disappoint. The story with the farm and Father Joseph keeps you on your toes throughout. Another great aspect with these novels are the short chapters. I often end up reading more because they are short. In some novels where chapters can go on for 30 plus pages I find that I don’t start new chapters as Easter quickly.

Knight and Culverhouse book 6, in the name of the father by Adam Croft, a cult in an enclosed community, a murder is reported but no body is found, lack of evidence. Can the truth be uncovered. Characters are revealing more about themselves, Audible great narration, narrated by Adam Croft. Gripping, on the edge of the seat waiting to know will they won't they. 4* Audible, will definitely read and listen to more.

When an anonymous phone call reports a murder, DCI Culverhouse and DS Knight approach the religious community at Hilltop Farm. But they find no evidence. But what will happen when the newspapers get involved.

True to form and carrying on a great series and partnership (book 4 excepted, which I thought was dreadful). Easy to read and simple to follow all characters and the plot. Nice to see the character development as well. Straightforward storyline and engaging throughout.

Good read. Suspense stayed high as a cult manipulates its flock and as Culverhouse and Knight attempt to uncover the deception. I'd have given it 5 stars had it not been for the moderate use of swear words.

I do enjoy Adam Croft's books. The police characters are down to earth, real people and not gorgeous females who can solve crime, have black belts and totally no fear. The plot also was believable.

The usual fare from Adam and his pair of mismatched but oddly symbiotic coppers. A bit more personal detail added for curmudgeonly Jack though to open things a little.

In the Name of the Father

Liked the idea behind this however I thought it a bit unexciting in the delivery.
A bit too slow for me.
