Yūsei Matsui (松井優征 Matsui Yūsei?, born January 31, 1981 in Saitama, Japan) is a manga artist known for manga Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro. He was an assistant of Yoshio Sawai, the manga artist of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (Shirota Masakage made a cameo appearance in Shinsetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo).
This is volume 16 of this series about a great and humane teacher of struggling students, Koro Sensei, whom his students must assassinate because he plans to destroy the planet (Right, you can't think of any piece of literature with this premise, I'll bet). This is the volume that we have been waiting way too long for, (one of) the big reveal(s), the one in which we finally get the backstory about Koro Sensei, why he looks the way he does (octopus-tentacled), why he chose to become a teacher and why he cares so much about his students. And it is really well done and interesting, with some surprises, and sets up the last four volumes of the series really well.
Unbelievably, I am caught up in reading this series, with volume 17 coming out in August. And like almost everyone else, I say this is a 5 star volume. I have not yet 5-starred any volume until now! Weird to have to wait til so late to get the backstory, probably causing a million people to stop reading, but at this point it feels satisfying.
The whole series to date has been easy reading, and just good enough to be in the running for "keeper" status. It isn't unpredictable or out of the ordinary enough for me to be willing to give it more than a basic "I liked it" rating. Koro-sensei's origin story in this volume is not an exception to that.
Can I just say how much I dig the plaid Koro Sensei on the cover? No? Ah, well … never mind, then.
In this volume, Koro Sensei reveals all! Read the story of the man(?) behind the tentacles. This sheds new light on the importance of class 3-E’s mission to assassinate him. And, towards the end, we begin to get hints of a possible resolution for this series.
As always, this title continues to delight. The premise sounds unlikely, I know, but Yusei Matsui does an incredible job of striking just the right balance of serious and playful to pull it off. It's a series that you would think wouldn't work, but it does, and does so beautifully. This is still one of the best manga I’ve ever read. Highly recommended!
I love it so much! Who would think a story about a bunch of kids trying to kill their teacher would have so much heart, and laughter and be so great? So, we learn Koro-Sensi's true nature after having so many little teases about it in the other volumes. The one thing I did kinda dislike was the whole moon/earth being blown up explanation, or more specifically how they related to him. He keeps responsibility for blowing the moon up, but it was not him it was the mouse the scientist put there, against Koros will. The earth also would not be his fault, albeit it would be bad (obviously). I do get why Koro kept the second part from the students, because he knew if he told them they would not want to kill him and he can't let himself explode and destroy the planet so he had to keep the truth hidden so they would kill him, thinking he was just a destructive monster. Also, the science behind the whole experiment does not seam plausible but that I can overlook, as new tech is always coming out. However, the fact that killing Koro will keep him from exploding and letting him die naturally will let him explode seams rather far fetched, because it's stated that when the cells stop dividing they will explode. But, death would stop the cells from dividing as well so still there would be an explosion. Still a really good series, if some of the early volumes are fillers. Very excited to see how it all ends!

Exposition dump, with added spousal abuse to show a side of domestic violence not yet seen in this series! Oh what fun! Backstory upon backstory that fleshes out who Koro Sensei is, even if it's clunkily put. Oh and the students realize "hey we kind of like this teacher" as if they didn't know that already. I thought the students having difficult killing a teacher they've bonded with so much would have been a series-long theme but nope this is an attempt at a big emotional revelation using that. Which isn't a surprise and is more of a disappointment.
I really enjoyed this volume but, I was caught off guard with it being set in the past without any warning. You never really got an explanation in this volume and I feel like this one basically made up the backstory for the rest of the series. It was another quick read and I can't wait to finish catching up in the series in English with the next two volumes!
THIS!!!! The book series finally revealed all its secrets. Amazing volume. Only 4 more till the end of the series. This time next year, the series will be completed and over.
I hate to say that sometimes I really hate anime and manga because it always makes me cry and after that, I need some time to cool down my emotions to get back to my normal life. This volume is a bit too much for me.
Pause for a moment and look at the page edges of this volume. See all that black? This volume is 80% backstory!!! AND IT'S ALL ABOUT KORO-SENSEI! OH MY GOSH! This backstory is heart wrenching and sad and made me cry and no one deserved what happened.
And the ship I formed in the span of about 60 pages was destroyed in less than 40.
First of all, I LOVE the cover (tartan is fab). Secondly this volume had a pretty series storyline, as it goes into the origins of Koro Sensei and why he became the student's teacher. Nevertheless, there were still some funny moments (one of which was about boobs but it managed to make me laugh cos it was so unserious). The end of the volume was definitely interesting - what will the students decide?!
Well, now we have Koro Sensei's origin and the kindest thing I can think to say is that at least it is not as bad as the origins of Wolverine or the giants in Attack on Titan. 'Tain't good though.
I have the final five volumes on hand from the library though, so I'm going to power through them this week and hope things pick up from here.
Memang menyenangkan ya kalau ada flashback gitu, mengungkap rahasia masa lalu para tokoh, apalagi tokoh utama, apalagi tokoh utamanya aneh, apalagi mirip gurita kuning...hehe
We finally get Koro-sensei's backstory!! My theories about it were all basically correct, but I didn't know how it would all tie together, and there were some other surprises too. It was great to finally get to the emotional core of the story. Excited to see how it ends.
Câu chuyện quá khứ này cũng đủ sức lay động đấy chứ, một thứ tình cảm đứng giữa nhưng lại rất được trân trọng, khởi đầu cho sự hạnh phúc và cố gắng của 1 người
