We meet the two main protagonists, Prateek and Yash from IT department who are suffering from corruption in the country. Their company collects funds for the political parties. But one fateful day, one of their clients goes missing and it happens frequently.
What has happened to them and what is the fortune of Prateek and Yash is worth finding out.
Watching two guys coming from IT background and plunging into the pool of dirty politics - it had been a fun ride. The book exactly as I was expecting from it - dark and thrilling.
With adventurous plot and stunning dialogues, the author has created nothing less than a page turner. Discussing current issues and bringing them forward, he has done a fantastic job.
Prateek, Yash and Kamate entertain you to the core. Since the beginning, the tension and pressure could be felt and you are bound to sit on the edge of your sofa and continue reading till the end. PSYCON was one of the perfect blends of reality and fiction. At some points, the characters were so relatable to the real life people that it was hard to distinguish which was which.
It was informative to know a bit about Politics and Finance and how all of it work. Recommended to the readers who want to read Political Thrillers.
(Note: I won this book in Goodreads Giveaway. I’m glad I got a chance to read this book.)
The story is about how 2 cons has taken the route from IT department to ruling party of India, how they managed to shell out money and hit the windfall, and how they will survive the pressure of CBI.
Characters- I don’t know if author has written these characters keeping in mind the cast of special 26 (a Bollywood movie). If this book is made in movie, I could totally imagine the same cast in this story. No really, Prateek, Yash, and Kaamte did sound so. Back to book, I’m not going to discuss movie and compare it with the character.
Prateek was smart and all brain in the book. Yash was brilliant in communication and dealing. Kaamte, ruthless CBI officer who will go to any legth to find out missing Businessman. All these 3 main characters were amazing.
What I liked? Interrogation of Prateek and Yash at CBI HQ was perfect start of the book. It created tension at the very beginning and hooked me to the book. Narration by Yash about how PSCYCON worked, for what and whom, extorting money from 7 business and all research they did as a tax evaders was brilliant. It was the eclectic mix of true stories, that happened in India and we read in newspapers, with fictional touch in this book- adulteration, illegal supply of by-products for alcohol manufacturing, gaurakshak cases, converting dowry to Stree Dhan, and Triple Talaq. Financial and political aspects in the book was nicely explained. I’m not most interested person in politics and the least I understand financial thing, though book made a person like me interested in the story. It took little extra time for me to understand it properly.
This book is supposed to be a political thriller. It has characters from PM of the country to CM of UP, CBI top cops, corrupt IT officers, businessmen, middlemen and scrupulous tax manipulating CAs. It starts with a lot of promise. Does it stay true till the end? Let’s see.
PSYCON is the name of the firm which is an acronym made up of the names of two of the founders (Prateek Subramaniam and Yashwardhan Sharma Consulting firm). A new regime under the leadership of Narendra Bhai Doshi is in place at centre. In UP the state is headed by MS Yadav of Samuhwadi Party (SP). These two chaps are CA who works as pimps of IT officer Meena. Modus operandi of them is ingenious. They calculate probable black money income of corrupt businessmen by going undercover. Then they calculate probable tax liability. Meena sends IT notice for double the amount and then sends these two to settle on his behalf. They ask half the money to wipe the slate clean and thus everyone is happy. But this is a dangerous game as they ruffle the feathers of many corrupt and powerful persons in the state. One of them is Sunderlal of BJP. All hell breaks loose when Acchelal Yadav, a backward person & coal baron goes missing and PM sees it as an opportunity to score political points with Backward community. Enter Kaamte an IPS officer working for CBI who is handpicked by Doshi to find him out. This sets a high octane thriller.
The book starts with a lot of promise. The stories in the beginning are interesting and ingenious. They extract crores from corrupt businessmen. These stories are more like description of disparate events and written in a rushed fashion and reads more like non-fiction. After these stories the chase begins for Acchelal. The story becomes protracted and convoluted. And by the end this becomes a very clichéd revenge story. It is Bollywood style thriller which asks for suspension of belief. In true Bollywood style it has a dead father which is to be avenged, a sister who has cancer, burning alive the corrupts and justifying it. In fact in the end PM declares in a press conference what happened, so very filmy.
This is not what is expected from the book. The weakest point of story is that it reads like propaganda of BJP and denigrates others.
Still 3/ 5 stars for the ingenious con game at the beginning. Second half is avoidable.

About the author:
Hailing from the small town of Satna with humble beginnings, Varun has come a long way by establishing a prominent name for himself in the FMCG space. Varun's professional stints are replete with awards of recognition but his heart has always been in the literary space since his association with Guts & Glory, a book published by SIBM Pune in association with Rupa Publication. Now, he longs to write about the complex interplay of societal norms and self-interest, redefining the demarcations between good and evil, in a world driven by propaganda, where truth is never absolute and public perception is the king. A die-hard fan of the honourable Prime Minister of India and a keen observer of the evolving political environment in the country, he has dared to challenge the existing notions of the society with his endeavor: PSYCON. The book does not merely scratch the surface of societal evils like black money and corruption but also rips apart the draconian system, under which such evils prospered and became the accepted norm. The royalty earned by the author from this book will be donated to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

I just read Psycon by Varun Tejwani. What started with apprehension ended with amazement. Here is what I thought.
BOOK COVER:
I love how the cover has an element of suspense and mystery to it. Darkness is the most intriguing factor and upon first look, it develops in readers a sense of curiosity. Good job on being able to do that.
Cover Rating – 4 / 5
TITLE JUSTIFICATION:
The title is a conglomeration of what I presume as psychological and a con based story. It is unique and unlike any other I've seen. I like the build it presents of the story, leading to a variety of guesses about the plot.
Title Rating – 4 / 5
PLOT
This novel falls broadly into the genre of a Political Thriller which revolves around the IT department, black money and corruption. It builds slowly yet steadily into a massive tale of gripping suspense. It falls rightly into the thriller category as the author has beautifully woven a serious masterpiece.
The infusion of 'Satyameva Jayate' with ridiculed patriotism and the intervention of CBI are commendable, to say the least. The story revolves around Prateek and Yashwardhan who constitute 'Psycon' in an attempt to get involved in the ruling party's regime and con their way out with massive wealth.
The writing style is strong with a good sense of language and grammar. It is an easy ready and will keep you hooked till the end. The plot compliments the author's sense of satire.
Rating – 4.5 / 5
OVERALL IMPRESSION:
If you are into a thriller of its best kind, then Psycon is the book for you. Pick it up, give it a shot and you are sure to be enthralled. This will be an excellent addition on your shelf. I guarantee it.
It is available both as an e-book as well as paperback and the best part is that whatever royalty the author makes from this book gets donated to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
There are only few authors (debutant) in the country who writes a story which is not a Romance/Romance Thriller. Have you ever thought Why ? Well they all feel it's easier to sell some love stories. So to Stay Safe they come up with love stories of course Clichéd Love Story. That's the point where they fail to reach the readers.
Few days ago, an accidental discovery of "The Last Chai" by Varun T restored my faith in Indian Author's writings. It's a 250pgs Political Thriller, a well scrutinized writing, the story was so intriguing and I finished it in one sit reading. Psycon is the début book by Varun which falls under Thriller; Psychological political thriller.
What is PSYCON ?
That's an interesting acronym, you have to read this book to find it out. But I can say it's deadly combination of Psychopath and a Conman. The book talks about the corruption filled world, Eye for an eye political drama, Payback Duties of a honest Cop. The flow of narration is Superlative, with the perfect time line of the stories. And the footnotes, which is perceivable. Although this book has two protagonist, Prateek Subramaniam and Yashwardhan Sharma. It's the character of Prateek which shines throughout the story. My favorite part was of course the pre-climax events. The author has this peculiar style of writing, at the beginning you start liking the protagonist but as the story flows you doubt yourself and at the end it's an Eureka moment.
This book is an exhaustive, and will remain In the top of my book shelves. I give this book 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. It's because I read "The Last Chai" first.
PSYCON, the debut novel of author Varun T, is a socio-political thriller. I must acknowledge the author for his attempt to take up the current political situation of India as the background of this novel and open it's pandora's box, even if it is just a work of fiction. Set primarily in the hinterlands of the country's most notorious and populous state of Uttar Pradesh, it traces the journey of it's protagonists, Prateek and Yash, from the confines of a corporate in Pune to the clutches of the CBI.
Prateek Subramanium and Yashwardhan Sharma, in the interrogation room of CBI are being grilled by officer Ajay Kaamte in relation to the abduction of Dalit activist Acchelal. Since the case involves a man from the caste which is a vote-bank for the political parties of UP, the State Government of MS Yadav's Samuhwadi Party asks for help from the Center, in hopes of saving their own asses for not being able to locate Acchelal but majorly, for the Prime Minister to enter into the scene so that Yadav can sabotage him at the opportune moment. The PM personally gets involved in the case, assigning Kaamte the reigns of the case while announcing on social media that he will bring Acchelal back in the next 48-hours. Kaamte has already lost 1/4th of the time allotted by the PM to the two young men sitting in the CBI headquarters, who maintain their ambiguity, letting him decied his next route of questioning. He threatens them with dire consequences if they do not reveal all that they know. Under the pressure from him, he senses that Yash is the weaker amongst the two, and pulls him away from Prateek's gaze, into a separate room where Yash begins narrating their story, a story which jolts up Kaamte. PSYCON, the brain child of Prateek and Yash was incepted when they were given a lucrative deal by the ruling party's member, Sundarlal, with the sole purpose of extorting money from those businessmen whose anchors were rooted in the ocean of black money. With an IT officer named Meena by their side, they embarked upon a journey unknowingly that it would lead them to the CBI interrogation room. They would begin with the preliminary study of their target, provided by Meena, who as per IT records were tax evaders. After the estimation of their annual income, they would send across the IT notice accordingly - either pay up or face the ire of the IT department. Here was when the guys would enter, enticing the target with an out and out settlement, pay a certain amount to the IT department and another to them as their consultation fees while the rest would be waived off. Further, the consultation fees would be passed on to Sundarlal via their handler Paglu, who in turn, would pay them their dues. Together this way, they duped six businessmen before baiting the big fish, Acchelal. And that is when the tables turned, someone amongst them had other plans. Like the six others, Acchelal too had vanished off the face off Earth but since he was a popular face, the case became high profile. The CBI was involved and Prateek and Yash were rounded up. With all the evidences pointing towards Sundarlal, Kaamte has no option but to inform the PM and ask for the go ahead to question him. While Kaamte waits for nightfall to visit the suspect, he receives a recorded distress call from one of the police stations who tell him that it was Paglu asking them to rescue him and Acchelal from goons out to kill them. After tracking the call to a remote place, Kaamte heads out with Prateek (he was once earlier kept hostage by Paglu there) while picking up Sundarlal on the way. As Kaamte parks his jeep and gets out to see a dilapitated building, a man resembling Acchelal comes running into him and both collapse. Kaamte tries to get up but is unable, his hands and feet are tied to the metal chair he is sitting on. Opening his eyes, he adjusts them to the horror in front of him, Sundarlal butt naked with limbs tied in a large drum, while Prateek, Paglu and Acchelal look on. Realizing that things were not as they seemed, Kaamte asked Prateek for an explanation. It so happened that Sundarlal had killed Prateek's father, an honest IT officer, and also defamed him for sending him an IT notice for evading tax. It was only when Meena, his father's friend at the department informed him of the anomaly in the records, that Prateek understood the whole scene and vowed to take revenge. And today, he was at the last stage of his plan, with Sundarlal under his control, he makes Kaamte inform the PM that Acchelal had been found and Sundarlal, out of fear of an enquiry and humiliation, had committed suicide.
The novel deals with India's termites - corruption and black money. The root cause of mostly all the crimes committed in the world's largest democracy, they are there to stay for as long as there are people who harbor them. The author attempts to bring into light the effects of such activities on the common man, and how he can bite back when poked. PSYCON is a fairly well written novel. Apart from a couple of grammatical errors, the language seems fine. The plot seems to drag at the time when the author tells the story of the duo's exploits in the same tone, same methods, same results, only the background differed. One can skip the pages and never come back. There are no two thoughts in saying that the theme is common and exhausted beyond use by the films made on it, but had the end not been as twisted as a jalebi, this book would have been just a literary echo of the same.

PSYCON, a crime thriller which touches all sorts of current issues with an intellectual move is a rare outcome these days. Varun gives one such nail-biting story in his novel, ‘PSYCON’. Even the title holds special importance, the nature of the story evolved, which shall be understood only when you read the entire book.
‘PSYCON’ is a novel with a criminal plot with politics in the background shades. The story progresses with two main characters – Prateek Subramaniam and Yashwardhan Sharma, who run an IT consultant firm in Lucknow. ‘PSYCON’ is of their firm. The plot goes in this way: Prateek and Yash work and help for the ruling party in collecting funds from the businessmen. As referred, “The legal and financial ignorance of the rich landlords and business moguls of UP is a blessing for these two men”. The ruling party leader is ‘Sundarlal’ under whom these both work.
Everything seems to go fine until one day, when Acchelal Yadav, a big name in the social circles of UP goes missing. It is also found that the six other businessmen with whom PSYCON has made dealings are missing. What has happened to them? Are they dead? If yes, who has he killed them and why? Where is Acchelal Yadav?
To know answers for all these questions, we have to travel along with the CBI inspector Ajay Kaamte, who is specially appointed by the Prime Minister into this case.
The light of importance falls on characters such as Paglu Yadav, Dharmendra Singh Meena, Samrendar Singh, Sundarlal Yadav, Shruti Lal, PM Doshi and few others. The story goes in an anticipation of finding the truth and the most thought-provoking part is how Prateek and Yash get the balls of the seven businessmen. The story beats around the bush and then comes the climax, leaving you gob smack, the kind of crime tales.
The plot which itself being an out of ordinary choice, the author Varun has given full justification to its narrative and writing style. You will love this novel with its every ups and downs of the investigation to unfold the crime sequence.
Review: There are novels out there which make you emotional. There are novels out there that make you laugh. There are novels out there which make you cringe. There are novels out there which make you angry. But there are very few novels that make you feel all emotions at once. Psycon is one such novel that will make you feel all the emotions at once. You will feel sad for Prateek and at the same time feel angry. You will be surprised to see how low a businessman can steep for the success of his business. The escapades of corruption mentioned in this story will leave you shocked. Psycon will leave a deep impact on you. The blurb of the story is simple one which will make you think that the story too might be a usual story of corruption. You can very well compare Psycon to an iceberg. It's much bigger than it appears. The plot is a simple one but the manner in which it is developed is worth all the praises. Every chapter surprises you. I appreciate the efforts the author has put in for all the research. I myself was unaware of many practices that are mentioned in this novel. The first word which comes to your mind when you read corruption and black money is bribe. But there are many faces to this black money conundrum which are revealed as chapters in this book. The story is narrated excellently. There is no room for any confusion inspite of having so many characters. You get to know about each character as you read the story. It is like you discover a thing or two about the characters and you feel you know him better. The characters feel real. The language is lucid. I loved the presentation of this story. The twists and turns of this book will keep you on the edge. You will be hooked onto this book. I would love to see Psycon as a movie on big screen. The book has every element that is required to make an excellent movie. I rate: Cover: 3/5 Characters: 4/5 Story: 5/5 I rate Psycon with 5/5 stars.
A political thriller is something that many writers do not dare to attempt because they fear of facing an opposition of thoughts and ideas. The author, Varun, has been doing it successfully in his books. I have read two books by the same author and they were great. Psycon was not as great as other books by Varun but it was still good. I give it 4 stars out of 5. Read my review here.
Psycon is the right acronym picked as the title of this book. The protagonist of the story is a psychopath who is also a conman and his story is full of thrill. There is politics, there is drama, there is a thrill and everything that you would expect to see in a typical Bollywood thriller. Prateek and Yashwardhan have played their parts well and it is interesting to read about them. The sequence of events has been so described that you will be able to find a connection of this fiction with the things happening around you in the real world. To find out who is the psychopath & conman and everything related to it, you will have to read the book.
The title is apt for the story and it is even interesting when you come across this title for the first time. The cover is okay and seemed to be more like a movie poster to me. The plot is amazing as the other books by the same author. It is gripping and interesting which will keep every fan of this genre glued to the book. Also, I appreciate taking such a subject because most of the debutant these days prefer going for romantic stories because they sell well in the market. The narration seemed a bit disorganized to me at places. Maybe, this happened because it was the first book by the author.
Pick this book up if you enjoy reading thriller stories.
When I picked Varun Tejwani's new book PSYCON, I was amazed by how simple yet curiosity arousing cover filled with darkness. Cover does play an important role in attracting a reader towards the book and conveys the message before any page is flip. I expected the same with the plot of this book.
The plot revolves around an IT department suffering from corruption. State elections are on the edge of time and the IT department is chasing down tax evaders to curb the menace of black money, party funds begin to dry up. Two characters, Prateek and Yashwardhan get involves in the ruling party's regime and con their way out with massive wealth.
This plot hugely depends on the element of Political thriller and through this element, the book drives forward. As I mentioned, the darkness is there to be seen in the plot and it really excites me that author has done a good job with blending the element of thriller with politics, that too using surreal instances which does spice it up.
The writing style is worthy of all appraise. Varun's sense of the language does help to drive this book forward, written in simple words, not a single complex element to be found that might take the reader off the track. Due to this the book can be read and enjoy by the reader in no time. I did not find any dragging elements as some world-famous authors who write in the similar genre, use the element to fill up the pages and many a times, bore up the reader.
The Cover - Well thought out and designed. The light shows just the shaved head of a man whose face is covered by the shadow of an interrogator, which forms the basic structure of the story.
The Story - The author has incorporated an ingeneous way to display his storytelling skills. The first scene, wherein two central characters are interrogated by the CBI, one budges and agrees to reveal everything the CBI wants to know, much to the other's discontentment. What started as a narration in the third person's perspective shifts to the first person perspective of the man's testimony. The titles of the chapters are different and catchy. The flow is set in a good pace that makes the reader want to turn the page. For about 50% of the book, the first person perspective remains. After the testimony is complete, the narration is again as viewed by the third person. This kind of non-linear storytelling with perspective differences is much appreciated. While the way the story has been told is indeed great, it seemed to lack luster and power towards the end. Yet, the cleverly placed twists and turns earns more points. For seekers of quality Indian writing, this book is highly recommended.
Quality: Much time has been invested by the editorial team which is apparent. The language is commanding. Meticulous efforts have been taken to make it easy for the reader to not go astray and finish the novel in one sitting. Kudos to the author and the editors.
Thrillers are those which can keep you at the edge of your seat and PSYCON is one of them. REVIEW: It is a political thriller which is well written and narrated by Varun tejwani. While reading I really felt like I was watching a political thriller movie like those of prakash jha. Dialogues are so awesome which kept me turning pages. Cover and blurb may look simple but there is lot more to explore inside as this is a novel which cannot be judged by cover. I really loved both the protagonist of the story Prateek and Yash and plot is crispy too the way in which they both gets trapped into the dirty game of politics and corruption and how they overcome it is worth to read it do find it out by reading it. Most of thriller gets confusing but this one is simply represented with some good language and there is no sort of confusion in plot or characters. Final verdict: story is thrilling and exciting as it also relates to real life that how politics and corruption takes place. I would suggest it to every person who wishes to read thrillers and is being bored of love stories. “Hats off to Varun Tejwani for such a commendable novel”. Best wishes for future ones I will surely like to read them.
A Dalit businessman is kidnapped and the community is up in arms.PM Doshi takes a pledge to get him back and hands it to the CBI. A hero worshipping Ajay Kamte arrests two CA's and out tumbles PSYCON, a sinister dirty plot plotted by the duo that goes after tax evading business men and then a motley mix led by a local leader from ruling party to a bunch of gun toting goons, an IT officer and a conniving DOT staff takes over. In this plot, people get IT notices, get blackmailed to settle, and then they pay up.Plot gets murkier when many of them disappear post the settlement, indicating the gangs role in their disappearance.
With a local party leader in the cross hairs, Ajay Kamte must choose between duty or his Demi God PM. What will the officer do? Will he Trump the odds?
The Bazigaar of books..A thriller, moves well, and suitable for a psychotic Bollywood script. Drawback is that it doesn't leave you with a wow feeling post the finish, and that is solely why I rate it 4 ,despite enjoying the fare thoroughly.
Psycon by Varun T is not a stereotyped love story. It is a out of box story talking about Corruption, black money and politics. It also talks about present position of India. Author have done a lot of research before writing the book. Language used is simple and engaging. All the events are beautifully written. I as a reader enjoyed it a lot. all the characters are beautifully depicted making it more interesting. I personally feel that everyone must read it. It is really a treat to read.
Subtlety and insinuation are words which do not exist in the vocabulary of Varun, as he goes on unabashed taking potshots and cynical jibes on the various state and non state actors. While he has managed to keep the sanctity of PMO intact, he has spared noone else in the tortuous tale of double cross and quaudruple cross (if that's really a word)... I dare you to guess the ending and the cuplrits; you may guess the ending but can never say with certainty as to who the cuplrit in the whole scenario is: the CBI, the politicos, the shrewd businessmen, the notorious duo or the system.
PSYCON is perfect political thriller. It includes IT information too. It need guts to write such books. We have many romance authors but to have one with political mind is difficult.
Cover of the book is very well designed. I liked it very much.
This book has so much drama, politics, CBI officer...which will intact your interest till end. It was a fun ride.

It is capable to make the reader curious enough to go through the inner story. Hence I consider this perfect. Cover: The cover (front & back) of the book is mysterious and suits aptly the theme of the book. Though I’d say that it could have been more uniquely but it is justifying enough, and that’s what matters. Title: This is the most intriguing part of this book; the title was the sole reason that I opted for this book. It kept me clueless till a long time while trying to figure out what the meaning of the title can be. And finally when I figured out what is it all about, trust me, I was stunned. I won’t mention the ‘actual’ significance of this title here because it surely would be a spoiler for other readers, but I’ll say one thing that the title is enough for any reader to pick this book up and turn the pages of the book. And by all means, the title is doing justice with the content of the book. So, it is catchy & appropriate for the story I must say. Language & narration: Language of the book is lucid enough to comprehend but one thing I’d like to mention that the entire book contains lots of specified classic and potentially heavy words that enhanced the flavor of the sentences. I admit that I needed Dictionary at some places, but in the aspect of vocabulary, I’m more content now after reading this book. So, it is worth it. One thing is to be pointed out that there is “excessive” use of ‘F words’, Hindi & English slangs can be noticed. Lots of local languages (abusive as well) is being used here and there (in the literary aspect, I’d like to read a bit more modest and sober words while conversing). Non-English words are written in italic fonts to give them a different look, and their meanings are also given at the bottom of the page separately (it is a good point). While the title of each chapter is in interesting pattern, same, I would say that open & in-detail discussion about some specific part of sex, could’ve been avoided (I personally felt that a bit exaggerating). Vividly descriptive and profound narrating style of the author made this book a fast paced and hooking read. Because of this narrating style, the story didn’t lack the grip anywhere in the middle, but let me say, it actually picked up pace after the 1st half of the book. Bit by bit description made the scenes visualizing to me, which is a successful aspect in narrating style. Story is in 3rd person narrative. The way of revelation & bending the story according to the hidden twists is what actually grasped my attention till the very end of the book. Plot: Author Varun T has crafted this in-depth plot quite thoughtfully and in a mature way with such a deep observation, that it can easily be termed as “a perfect movie plot” indeed. I generally am very fond of mystery thriller but not into politics. But this story was so engaging that I literally finished this entire journey in one go! I think this is enough to portray how captivating the plot was! Bringing some sensitive and currently dwelling issues of the nation & pinching them in front, needs guts to do. And here the author has done the same. This hooking plot is combination of several other complementing subplots that shaped the story a gripping read altogether. Setting: Setting of the story is in Lucknow- Uttar Pradesh, Banaras, Pune, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra- Kamlanagar, Bamrauli, Kanpur, Dharavi, Raxaul, Varanasi, Pilikothi, Bajardiha, Saharanpur, Yamunanagar, Sonebhadra, Singrauli, Alambagh, Shahampur & Delhi. Characterization: Crystal clear characterization is one of the most strength of this book. Each and every character (be it major or minor) is justified to their respective roles till the end and portrayed lively in the story as per their need. Readers (like me) will be able to connect with the characters instantly. All the characters mentioned in the book are significant. Let’s get familiar with the names of the character mentioned in the book- Prateek Subramaniam, Yashwardhan Sharma, Acchelal Yadav, Narendra Bhai Doshi, Ajay Kaamte, Rajdeep Madhav, Rutuja, Rishant, Sundarlal Yadav, Birjunath Chaube, Mulchand Singh Yadav, Chaube’s wife, Dharmendra Singh Meena, Shruti Lall, Paglu Yadav, Ghosh Babu, Samrendar Singh, Brijpal Gond, Mayadevi, Shivpal Gond, Sushil Jatav, Krishnakant Singh, Pratap, Ballu Yadav, Dhaniram, Ayub Chamdewala, Gajodhar Joshi, Ramdayal, Mahroof Ansari, Najma Ansari, Arun Kejriwal, Shantanu Agarwal, Vivek Agarwal, Mustafa Masood, Mr. Paramanand Kushwaha, Kritika Sharma, Tarun Mishra, Ashok Chaddha. Theme: Political thriller, Psychological thriller, Crime mystery, Politics. Story in a nutshell: The story revolves around the new political era the strived into the power as ruling party with successive majority counts of votes and the Man of the reign was Narendra Bhai Doshi aka Doshiji- the Prime Minister of the Nation. The story starts with the interrogation by CBI Inspector Ajay Kaamte to two prime suspects of abducting 7 high profile businessman one after another, and this time…it was a really ‘Big’ name in the town, the ‘demigod’ to the poor crowd and ‘Dalit’s, the “masiha” they can say- Acchelal Yadav… The prime suspects were- Prateek Subramaniam & Yashwardhan Sharma. Let’s look how it all started- The ruling party got into the power with the sole determination and purpose to wipe out black money, corruption from the core of the nation. Thus, IT Dept. were instructed with work on more deeply while collecting tax, actively and to be specific, mercilessly.. This order from the PM Doshi ji, changed the fate of many corrupted and exploited businessmen. Now, whomsoever were trying to skip tax and continued to hide their actual income “illegally”, started facing the wrath of IT raids. Now it was affecting the party funds directly, because the party funds were majorly depended on ‘that money’ from ‘those types of businessmen’ and their ‘donations’. In this turmoil, PSYCON entered the scene. It was the brainchild of these two CA, Prateek & Yashwardhan. They left their job in Pune and started their own Consulting Firm named PSYCON- (P)rateek (S)ubramaniam & (Y)ashwardhan (Con)sulting Firm. All they were doing was to connect some specific businessmen and squeeze them on their weak by complex IT concepts, and made the IT Dept. sent them notice with such a negotiable amount that not only brought those businessmen No Due Certificate, but that healthy amount was enough to satisfy all, like IT Dept, Party funds (both the party), and themselves with a heavy cut. In this way, they managed to earn some huge amount during their initial ‘conniving projects’ from their ‘targets’. Their targets were varying in occupations and places as well. From ‘Panwala’ to ‘Coal King’, from Varanasi to Kanpur, they covered everywhere in their ‘operations’ and for this, many times they had their lives on stake almost. But they managed to overcome the situation every time by hook or crook. All was going well until the abduction of the ‘demigod to the poor’, the “Coal King”, the ‘Savior of Dalits’- Acchelal Yadav happened. This incident changed the enter scenario overnight and it became the hot topic of the town. Thus, Doshiji intervened and brought his most loyal and bravest CBI Officer Ajay Kaamte in the scene, to bring back Acchela within 48 hours. The two con masters were the hardest nut to crack but Ajay Kaamte was one of a kind and belonged to different category of Inspectors. He knew actually how to get his job done. When Ajay started to show his ‘color’, Yash broke down under pressure and confessed the way of their operation… What happened after that? Will Kaamte be able to find out what the actual truth is? Was the confession true…or they were trying to show something else by pretending to be innocent? Will Ajay Kaamte be successful to find out Acchelal Yadav within the given timeframe? How they managed to con their targets and what was the way of operating of PSYCON? How did they choose whom to make target? Who others were involved with them? What does PSYCON ‘actually’ stand for? To get these answers, do grab a copy of this book and dive into this journey of mystery and thrill… My Verdict: Author Varun T has penned down this highly mystery political thriller with super brain work and mind game, presenting massive twists and unexpected turns of the events till the climax. Author has not only pointed out the issues and ill factors that is ruining in the nation from inside, but he has showed the cause and root of these also. Black money or corruption is not the system of one day or overnight; it runs in the vein of the society since ages and it needs ‘action’ to bring a change. We have to be the change we want to see; only discussions won’t help much. Many times it is seen that, corruption made the law blind and the nasty ‘criminal’s under the veil, managed to set themselves ‘free with respect’ by the power of their money. Money rules everywhere. Money can make every mouth shut. And money can make even a dumb person, talk. Just because of this, many times innocent and general honest people suffer. We will realize that, when law forgets to give justice, then we have every right to seek ‘justice’ in our way. There is nothing wrong in that. Not only black money & corruption, but the author has put front some sensitive issues as well like- liquor ban, cow killing ban, biff ban, triple talaaq, minority votes, Dalit redemption, homosexuality, dowry etc. All these are being mentioned in mature way pseudo-actively. But the efforts are enough to send the messages to the readers. The thrill, the twists, the revelation, the confessions, the care of a family person, the highly political master mind, the technical mind game, the planning and plotting, the avenge, the pain, the loyalty, honesty, bravery and the ‘justice’…everything is portrayed evidently in the pages of the book after some thorough research of course. I was hooked with the book and loved the way it ends. Satisfied with content. Recommendation: I would definitely like to recommend this book to every politic enthusiast, thriller lovers, and to every avid reader who loves to go through a significantly in-depth read, containing political crime mystery thrill. It is a must read for them I bet. Thank you. Rating (Overall): 4/5 Stars.
I received this book as a giveaway and I am really impressed by the book. The theme chosen for the book is well appreciated and the efforts of the author that went into research for the content are commendable.
I enjoyed reading the book but I would like to make a suggestion here that the link between two chapters is not compelling enough to read the next chapter. There seems to be a sort of gap between two chapters and I am a person who likes to read a book at a stretch, so that was the only thing I found misplaced in the whole effort in the making of the book.
But overall I enjoyed reading the book and would love to read more books on similar topics by the author.
A book that hoarded so much information inside it. It took me time to take it all in. The story of two people going about on a mission, their wits and smart decisions saved them their life oftentimes. If you enjoy politics, funds related books then this is your pick. A good narrative. And must have took a lot research and insight to pen down such. Good luck to the author. :)
Psycon! When I first heard this name I was wondering what it meant but when I read the book all my doubts evaded. The word is a combination of two words psychology and convict. I think the author has very artistically devised this title to match the story behind it all.
Being a Chartered Accountant myself, I simply loved the manner in which the duo estimated the gross earnings and tax liabilities of individuals. Difficult to believe that the author is an engineer and not an accountant by profession. Kudos to Varun, for highlighting the subtle fallacies in balance sheets and having such an in-depth understanding of the split of economic responsibilities between the state and centre. He has been able to apprise the readers of the cunning manipulations done by state and centre to benefit their electorate, and thereby explained to the masses the gross misuse of power done by one and all.
Book cover : Book cover is attractive and it's show the theme of novel. Story : story is totally different and it show the author love for the prime minister of india. This story is mysterious which revoke around the corrupt system. Author wrote this story in beautiful way with easy word which make a bond between writing and reader. Climax of the story is also best part and yes I can say one thing "it's masterpiece of the fictional story". If you are a reader of mysterious thriller then you must read it. My rating is : Cover: 4/5 Story: 5/5 Narration : 4/5 Total : 4.5/5
A gripping story; well researched subplots ; a fast paced narrative liberally peppered with hindi slangs and expletives. That’s PsyCon for you in 140 characters
Having said that, there is no hiding the fact that writer is a newbie and it shows in the way he hurriedly introduces the characters and gets going with the plots and subplots at a breakneck pace. Too many subplots and characters with confusingly similar names will baffle you at times.
The book is definitely worth a read and if you have an intelligent, curious mind you’ll appreciate the depth of research and thought the author has put into the subject of blackmoney. I do have a personal interest in the subject and I should say that Psycon covers the nuances of it quite lucidly like no other book I’ve read has on the subject. You’ll appreciate the book if you are a fan of authors like Jeffrey archer or Arthur Hailey. My only grouse is that the author should have devoted a bit more time to building the characters and subplots. I believe that a story like this deserves atleast 300 pages .
It was a good read considering that it is the first one by the author. It references a lots of words from the current affairs - like the usage of the word "Mitron" which lately had also been a subject for many jokes post demonetization of Nov-2016, or the local slang that AAP leader used and offended policemen. The book also expands your vocabulary of local words and slangs like BCs, MCs, katte etc which are also elaborated as footnotes on each page. After 2-3 chapters the next few chapters tend to become too predictive for they are destined for similar results, and you may feel urge to skip them to move ahead.
Written in line with the current political and social context, PSYCON is a riveting tale that keeps you spellbound till the very last scene. Twists and turns keep the reader hooked on till the very last page; while you may feel that you have decoded the plot, the book will manage to surprise you at the very end. Find it hard to believe that a CBI prodigy gets schooled though, but then truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
I'm not much of a reader, yet picking up this book was one of my best decisions. To make a political plot so interesting is absolutely commendable! The way the story builds up will keep you guessing and wanting to keep reading further. The character building, the writing style and the way the story unfolds are very unique and surpass all expectations you may have from a first time novelist. Just loved the attention to detail, the linkages and how it was all so believable. Almost makes you feel like you are a part of it. Kudos to the author for the brilliant execution. Will definitely recommend to new and avid readers alike!
