Faster than she can blink, Sophie’s life turns into a chaotic mess. Unbeknownst to her, her lover, Drake, is married. On top of that, a Demon is trying to drain his powers, and a rogue Witch just might have exposed the entire community. Nobody said being the Head Mistress was easy.
Ethan is a troublesome Mage who has been tasked with aiding Sophie in thwarting the catastrophic events facing the magical community. However, working alongside Ethan might just be her biggest challenge of all.
Sophie and Ethan race against the clock, encountering multiple challenges that not only threaten the success of the mission, but the magic that has brought them together.
As the duo attempts the impossible, they dive head first into the trouble that lay ahead. Will they be able to save the Witch community before it’s too late? Can Drake be saved, or is he too far gone?
N.L Hoffmann is a paranormal romance author. She was born in Germany to her German native mother and her American soldier father. The family moved home to the states, where she grew up in a rural farm town in Michigan with her parents and two younger brothers. There, in her pre-teens, is when she began writing and developed her love for literature. Today, Hoffmann resides in Missouri with her husband and three children, where she published her first book Blood Slaves in January 2014. When Hoffmann isn't busy putting words on the page she enjoys reading, drawing, playing loving pranks on her husband, and spending time with her family.
After great debates with myself, I give this book a 5-star. While I was reading this book, I wanted to pull Sophie and Drake out so I can slap some senses into them. With the addition of Ethan, I can't predict any outcome of this story which is what I love the most about this series. It is very unpredictable which makes it unstoppable to read. Miss. Hoffmann knows how to get her reader engage with her characters by making her readers have all sort of feeling toward those characters. Like Sophie said, I'm waving my pom-pom for team Drake. I didn't anticipate this ending with that said I can't wait to read the continuation of this series.
Catching Hell is book 2, first book is Spell Hell. I have to say, if possible, I liked this book more than the first. Lots of oh crap moments, twists and turns. At first I wasn’t sure about the big change that happened, but the more I read the more I liked it and agreed with it. It’s a quick read, and didn’t want to put it down! I don’t want to reveal too much, but poor Sophie I do not envy her life in this book. She has a lot to deal with and her hormones are out of control around a certain someone that isn’t helping. However, it makes for a great story. I love the way the author brings these characters to life. The way she keeps the reader on their toes and keeps the story going. I look forward to her next one.
Another hit for N.L Hoffmann. Every book she writes is better than the last. She mixes romance, suspense and humor. That makes you wanting more. Can't wait for the next book in this series. Highly recommended!
If you have not read Spell Hell, you definitely need to read it first. If you like Paranormal, Witches, Vampires, Demons, Mages, etc this book series is for you. I recommend this book to a mature audience as it contains explicit sexual content.
The book is well written, smooth flowing and is easy to read. I went straight from Book 1 to Book 2 and was desperate to know what would happen next. This book like the first one is filled with mystery and suspense. It kept me captivated from beginning to end and I'm sad I will now have to wait for book 3. The author does a great job portraying the characters, their emotions and the experiences they go through.
Sophie is now Head Mistress of the Witch Council. She doesn't particularly like the job, but she knows that it must be done. She must do whatever it takes to keep her people safe, try to improve the relationship between witches and vampires, make sure that her people aren't revealed to the humans, and so much more. She is also now half witch half vampire. There are many witches who resent that she is now Head Mistress, regardless of the Ancestors chose her or not. She is hopelessly in love with Drake.
Just as she is getting used to things, everything is about to change. I think I'm gonna have to leave it at that so I don't spoil the book for anyone. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
*** possible spoilers ahead***
Hmmm interesting turn of events with book 2, definitely a 3.5 star book for me. Not completely unexpected for me as I was aware that some things might change but... yeah, not really sure about this whole situation. I really want to write a review where I just list all the characters I don't like but um, probably not the best way to go about things, it might take a while. I will say that I really dislike Jenna (it is Jenna right? I genuinely can't remember, just remember that I really don't like her, she's not much of a friend and I kind of hope she either has a personality transplant or disappears in future books - sorry that was really long and rant-y) - she doesn't add anything for me, and I really don't like her perspective about a certain someone, maybe it's the complete lack of explanation but it doesn't make sense (also the change in her situation in this book from the end of the first one .... that comes out of no where! NO WHERE! And honestly, doesn't add much of anything at this point in time, so was kind of confused about the whole things). The other person I have serious dislike for, got to say it, Drake. Please, please, please don't let Sophie end up back with him (I never wanted them together in the first place so really hoping that they stay separated). I was never a major fan of his, even without his situation going on, and I'm just not feeling him as a character.
I have to say it - you killed the character that intrigued me the MOST! Now I will say I didn't actually like him in this book but damn, he was sexy. crazy and interesting when he was introduced in book 1. Kind of sad now but then again you did give me Ethan, and he's all kinds of sexy, alpha male, and he's very intriguing. I have high hopes for Sophie and Ethan, and I really want them to work. I have a feeling Ethan is hiding some major secrets from Sophie but I doubt they'd be the kind of BS that Drake was hiding, and I think he'll challenge Sophie to grow.
*Side note for author specifically - I really want Mum's perspective on Drake to be based on a certain foretelling and her thinking Sophie is not ready, rather than her knowing something specific about Drake. Basically I just really don't want them together.
Sophie, oh how you have to love Sophie and her one track mind about hot men - it's truly something to admire. I like that Sophie has grown a little, not a lot, but a little, and I'm really intrigued to see where future books take her.
On a whole though, I found this book a little disjointed and it didn't flow as nicely as it should. I feel like parts were thrown in, and they don't flow as nicely as they should, if that makes sense? Overall, it's a decent book, and includes some amazing descriptions of hot, drool worthy men, and some classic N.L. Hoffmann humour that I absolutely adore.
I was so happy to read more of Sophie's story! Sophie is now head of the witches council and is living with Drake but all's not well in paradise because she found out he's married and he neglected to tell her. Add to that he's getting weaker and doesn't know why, his wife is in town, oh and a mage won't leave her alone - doesn't help he's sexy.
This is a great series! The characters are full of life and the storyline is great. Sophie and Drake you think are the best couple but then Ethan shows up and lets her in on some history lessons. So who will she end up with and what will happen next? Can't wait to find out all of this!!!
This is the second book in the series and it just keeps getting better and better . When we start this book poor Sophie's life is turned upside down . She is leading the witches and her life with the man of her dreams is in turmoil right now . Drake forgot to mention to her that he was married and there is an demon trying to take over his power. Enter Ethan a sexy but pain in the butt Mage that is summoned to help her out . Will they be able to hold off their desires and help Drake out or will they end up dead or pregnant . If you love witches, vampires and all sorts of mystical beings . This is the series for you . The characters have a way of getting into your heart . Sophie is such a great character , she was quirky and sweet. But don't piss her off cause she can kick ass when backed into a corner. She is just like your best friend and you know you want to be her friend . Ethan is just sexy as sin . He is the guy you want to drop your panties for in this book. You really don't know what side he is on. The mage is very mysterious . Drake is still tall dark and deadly but there is an difference about him . He is becoming more and more evil as you read. You will love to hate him trust me . The book moves along at a fast pace , you will get sucked in and once you start you wont put it down until you are done. I read this book in a day cause I love these characters . The story is quirky but also has some mystery to it . The author takes us on a fun filled journey. There are moments of OMG and places where you will laugh out loud . Then there are parts that will make you swoon and fan yourself . I strongly suggest that you read the first book in the series to get acquainted to the characters and if you do dive right into book two . You will not be disappointed .
