Vavtal (whirl) is a story of a Brahman Boy from the village "Nandvadi" of western Maharashtra. In 1948; when Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji , Brahmin community was targeted in all over India especially in Maharashtra state (because the Nathuram and Apte was maharshtrain Brahmans). Their properties were looted and homes were tortured by people, paradoxically who were advocating GANDHIJI, congress and non violence (?). literally the Brahmans were exiled from villages in 1948. This is the plot of this novel. often we consider that novels are based upon fictitious stories but every fictitious story is based upon the non fictitious perceptions. here in the book the journey of boy is narrated. A Boy came to his native village from pune aftermath of 1948 riots. In his own village he confront with the repercussions of anti brahminical riots. his home burning, his own family members were exiled from their own home. intensity and terror of riot was so intense and that after this riot most of Brahmans families leave villages permanently get settled in cities forever. Plight of Brahmins , their exodus from rural Maharashtra, dichotomous reactions from other casts to this mishap are subtly depicted by the author Vyanktesh Madgulkar.
