When a diplomatic mission goes off the rails, Locke quickly finds himself between a rock and a hard place as old urges and new desires clash to shape the life and death decisions that he is forced to make. He soon realized that a mysterious new organization is pulling everyone’s strings and calling the shots from the shadows, and it seems to have the uncanny ability to anticipate his every move. Ultimately, he must choose between saving a friend’s life or a kingdom from the brink of corruption.
This book was just as good as the first. I loved the increases in the skill system for starters and the comments from the system and certain overseers are hilarious. It was also interesting seeing Shy heading in a slightly different direction. While I felt the story lacked a little in that Shy is someone who sees himself as a merchant, a salesman first, who just happens to have crafting to provide products for sale, he spent more time acting like a rough and tumble mobster. But that was fun too.
The changes in the Blue Phoenix Brigade showed a fair amount of depth being added to the characters as well, and I'm looking forward to how they reconcile the changes in their team dynamic as we head into Book 3, which I'm hoping will show up sooner rather than later. And the milk cannon.... it speaks for itself, and everything it has to say had me rolling.
And that screw the King twisted into Shy at the end, was rather ingenious, I couldn't help but stop and applaud that kind of forward thinking deviousness.
Congrats to the author, you've got another winner on your hands.
I enjoyed this part two of this series. Since I read the other new series first, I rather the author continued with that one first before he tidies this one. It's only a demon that needs to be found and cured to clean this series up. They're all good stories that I am looking forward to continued enjoyment.
Another solid entry set in the Bathrobe Knight universe. The author continues to improve both in writing ability and world-building. Really top quality as far as litRPG goes. This book is exciting, has a great plot, well paced and compelling characters. Definitely recommended for fans of this genre, I would also say that for people unfamiliar with litRPG this author is a great place to start because his writing is accessible.
A fast and fun read that I was able to knock out over the week in between classes. It seems the author paired down the crew a bit from the first book and tends to focus on just 2-3 characters in addition to Locke at one time, which made things a lot more fun to read. I loved the fact that he included a dungeon with some interesting puzzles (bonus points for referencing the Konami code) and wish more litrpg authors would do the same thing. There's a good bit of hack and slash, but it's balanced nicely against plotline. In all, pretty solid for the genre.
