Simple Self-Healing That Works...French psychologist Émile Coué was one of the more underappreciated geniuses of 20th century medicine. Almost a hundred years ago, Coué’s popular self-healing method – which he called autosuggestion – helped cure thousands of people annually. Today, however, few people have ever even heard of him. This book introduces you to Coué’s overlooked formula, and will surprise you in the process. If you grasp the simplicity of autosuggestion, you’ll be able to use this wonderful tool as you wish – and it should help make your life “better and better.”
Émile Coué de la Châtaigneraie was a psychologist and pharmacist known for his therapeutic use of autosuggestion—and particularly for the phrase, "Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better" (French: Tous les jours à tous points de vue je vais de mieux en mieux)—often labelled Couéism or the Coué method (la méthode Coué).
There are so many LOA self help books that require so much time from you to heal THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. From the introduction it gets to the point. I'm trying it. It's working so far. Smile wants you to work with modern medicine not instead of.
This book sums up Coue's philosophy in an unmistakable way that is poignant and wonderfully clear. If you're ready, the teacher has shown up for the great learner...
Another great repurposed book (public domain) by Tim Grimes, who did a very good job in summarizing and clarifying the main idea left by Émile Coué: auto-suggestion.
Auto-suggestion, which can also be seen as self-hypnosis – not in the technical use of the word, but in the sense of its mechanics and efficacy – is already part of our mental program. What is missing, and Coué clearly explains, is the awareness of it.
By understanding the principles, the reasons for, and the consequences of being hypnotized (or having your mind shaped by suggestions and auto-suggestions), one can finally take control over his own thoughts, and thus his reality.
Émile Coué (1857-1926) guides the reader through the process of de-hypnotizing from unfavorable suggestions and auto-suggestions, and re-hypnotize, or reprogram one’s own subconscious mind to create a new reality, or to heal oneself.
The process is quite simple, however not many people believe it for this very reason. The book is more about explaining the whys and the hows, with simple guidance in the process, and several examples and anecdotes of his patients and their successes in healing themselves through auto-suggestion.
It’s important to take the teachings with the frame of mind that “it’s possible” and also consider the period in time when it was written. The author believed that certain ailments could not be cured by auto-suggestion alone, like bones could not be repaired. He states it with conviction, which is in itself a limitation (unfavorable suggestion). In a subtle way, his statement is a suggestion he passes to the patient, who adopts it as an auto-suggestion. In this case, the suggestion limits the patient to mend his bone, for example, because he’s receiving the (auto)suggestion that it is not possible.
Coué did not know about ThetaHealing and Vianna Stibal, of course. More on mind expansion, quantum healing and the like were still to come! But Vianna Stibal did mend her broke pinkie toe using ThetaHealing, her own method of self-healing. And even I repaired my big toe bone with the power of my mind. So, Coué was not aware of such possibilities in his time, therefore he stated the impossibility of something that is actually possible. He was doing what he could, with the knowledge and experience he had at the time, and that is completely understandable.
The point is, when you read this book and any other, as a matter of fact, all things must be considered. Nothing should be taken as gospel. And every thing is possible if you say so.
This book is really interesting and, I think, useful. It is by far the best self help book I have ever read. The big difference between this and other "positive thinking" "self help" books is that it really has a ring of truth about it. It doesn't stray into "metaphisical" ideas that thought can change everything. It therefore doesn't go contrary to common sense. I always think most authors on this subject tend to overstate their case and end up in the realms of "magic" which your basic common sense rejects. I am convinced that this book it telling the truth and I think it will be extremely useful to anyone suffering low self esteem and also many physical ailments.
I believe most healing really can be this easy. This book was a great reminder that the mind has power over the body and we need to get out of the way of our own healing process. We have more control than we think we do; we need to learn how to exercise that control wisely. The best part is that you can only improve your life by using this method. There are no negative side effects, so why not try? This deserves to be read over and over as a reminder to silence the negativity around us and intend our body to heal, expect it to heal, and then trust that it will.
3.5/5 The book contains many self-proclaimed ideas rather than explicit data, as sources and references are all excluded. However, the mentioned method is practical and life-changing. Worth a try.
