Days after Police Sniper London Carter resolves a hostage situation at a local business, Detective Sergeant Dawn Luke calls upon him to assist her with a mysterious death investigation. They end up facing numerous roadblocks in their quest for the truth, including an unidentified body, uncooperative witnesses, and a killer tornado.
As they push forward in the case, they start to realize there might be a bit of a romance brewing between them, but the case is growing complicated and dangerous, and if they’re not careful, one of them could end up on the morgue slab.

London and Dawn investigating suspicious death, attraction between them growing. Case grows complicated and dangerous, they have to be very careful. Learning little more about each other. Fast moving mystery.
Silent Trigger was a good read. The story was slower than the first two books, and I was expecting a more fast pace. However, with my expectations aside, this is still a good book. The change in pace makes for a more realistic series. I know it’s fiction, and. If course there has to be a certain percentage of reality to make it something a reader would want to continue to read. Character development was at an all time high! (Which is something I like to gradually see.) I like when authors slowly build the main characters. The characters are slowly unraveling their layers as the story goes on. BJ Bourg incorporates establishing the major characters with the flow of the plot. We don’t see several pages dragging on attempting to describing new components of the characters with this author.
In Silent Trigger, I found that I lost interest at points. It might have been due to the slower pace (or the fact that I was just waiting for the action and was reading too quickly to get to those action scenes) I was also expecting some sniper scenes, but I’m sure this book represents that point where the author wants you to feel a sense of calm. It feels like that book in a series that is setting you up for a climactic point.
All in all it was a good book. It didn’t hold me like the first two books, and I didn’t find it to be a page turner. However, I still enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the introduction of some of the crazy weather we experience down here at “the end of the world!” And as always, Mr. Bourg doesn’t write solely from imagination, he has the experiences to create such works of art. His law enforcement background makes it easier for him to write these books with accuracy. In turn, this is a HUGE advantage to the reader. I feel entertained and educated after reading BJ Bourg’s writings. I would recommend this book (and series) to any reader who loves a good crime, mystery with a hint of comedy and romance. If you are looking for something that feels real and relatable give this book, series and author a shot!
The mystery here is intricate and well constructed. It’s pretty amazing to think that if not for a coincidence or two there is no way the murders would have ever been solved. The clues the author leaves as the story builds are very subtle and I enjoyed the connection back to the last book.
Most avid mystery readers will get to the real connect before it is revealed but it doesn’t diminish the enjoyment of the story. Though I would have thought that London and Dawn would develop that theory long before they did.
I also enjoy the way the author ties personal history of the MCs into present day situations which he has done in all three books I’ve read thus far. I like the way it frames the stories as well as contributes to character development.
This one really got to me. Readers sensitive to crimes against women may struggle with the content. The book opens with a wife being brutally beaten by her husband and things go downhill from there.
The twists and turns of the plot kept me engaged. I enjoy discovering and unraveling the clues along with the detectives. We’re getting to know the protagonists better, and their backstories combined with their developing relationship really round out the body of work.
This particular book had it all, all the way down to an act of God. Difficult as the subject matter is, I think it’s my favorite of the three books so far.
Another feat of brilliance, even though the grammar and cliches left much to be desired . This book was satisfying, appetizing even. Like being hungry all day and finally get your much deserved reward . Starts off with A deadly hostage situation , leading to domestics , then a murder , And a missing persons cold case spanning several decades. not to mention , the sizzling sparks flying about between London and dawn. There’s twist a every turn like always, Romance , a perfect whodunit scenario .what more could a man ask for on a rainy Sunday night ?
This was an interesting mystery. Old Cold Cases are difficult to solve. Evidence is lost, witnesses die or move, time is not a friend to murder solving. This was a good story and I was surprised that the old man victim tried to help the girl that was attacked. Maybe the Swamp Family do h ave a noble code to protect the innocent. London appears to have met his match with Dawn...Good combination. I am looking forward to reading Mystery #4 in this series. I do recommend the London Carter Series.
The third book in this series is not as action oriented as the first two, with no sniper engagements. Instead, we get to see London and Dawn exercise their detective skills and slowly evolve their mutual attraction. The pace is somewhat slower, as well, offset by deeper character development. In all, it's a fine addition to the set and a very worthwhile reading experience. I'm also pleased to find that there are at least three more books in the series that I look forward to enjoying.
As always, this book is as terrific as all the others written by this talented author. I have never read books so fast because I can’t wait to read the next one. I have my own images of Clint Wolfe, London Carter and all the rest of the characters he has made come to life. His description of the places down South is spot on, as well as the sniper and gunnery. He ranks right up there with John Sandford. Keep them coming, B. J.
This is the 3rd volume in the London Carter series. Sniping takes a back seat mostly in this book to detective work. Again, overall this is a decent thriller/mystery. One scene involving weather-related deaths was annoying since at least two of the deaths could have possibly been prevented if they had just checked the weather.
Silent Trigger Yikes! Angry people. Lots of them and so many secrets. Once again London is on the hunt for the bad guy...but This time it's a real cold case.
Love the tension between Dawn and London. Keeping it spicy but not taking away from the action of the story. She's a clever lady and keeps London on his toes. They also work well together.
I finally finished the next two in this series and found the writing style/character depiction slowly changing over the next two. I appreciated them more but still am in the middle of it's OK and I liked it. 2.5 if I am looking for something to read I might try the next but my to read list is rather long... Sniping has been cut way back.
Very good. A little slow and not as riveting as other books, not my favorite but a very readable story. Our sniper was more detective than sniper in this one. There was also a fifty fifty split of detecting between London and Dawn, like a detective couple rather than a sniper/detective as main character. But regardless, on to the next book, happy I’m not at the end yet.
Rated the book highly die to the content and story line. Keeps you guessing through the reading and the characters are true to life. Holds your attention with a good plot.
You can definitely tell the author has experience what he is writing about. They are gripping, tense, plot flows with characters you can love and what. they are going thru.Great series, readers won’t be disappointed and want to read the whole series.
Interesting characters, great dialog and a mystery with more twists and turns than a corkscrew. I'm ready to dive into the next book and see what Dawn and London will get up to next.
The author has written a story of crime and deception that weaves a crooked trail until the detective’s are able to solve both the old and current murders. Very entertaining and enjoyable reading.
A fast-paced thriller. An old (30-year) criminal event unexpectedly is the trigger for new murders. Dawn and London, as a team, successfully solve the crimes.
Kind of a weird story in,it's telling as the main character came across as an immature male who didn't know if he wanted to make out with his partner or play in the woods.
Wow! This book will have you on the edge of your seat. It is a very good book. BJ Bourg is a master of writing a good mystery. I am enjoying reading his books.
