The Lost Spaniel is the third novella in the Lost and Found Pets series. Alexandra Prescott opened Lost and Found Pets because she loves animals. Reuniting pet and owner is more than just a job.
When Alex’s mentor, Eddie Hill, calls about his lost Cocker Spaniel, Alex rushes to the rescue. They quickly track the dog to an abandoned construction site, but after bullets start flying, Alex realizes there’s more to this case than a missing dog.
Alex and Eddie have to dig into their pasts to find out who might want to harm them or their pets. The list of suspects grows long as Alex tries to solve the mystery of the lost Spaniel.
I was very impressed by the novel. It was fairly short but I did not feel that anything was missing. The fact that one of the dogs was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel first drew me to the book but the central characters and their complex relationships sustained my interest as much as the danger and the mystery.
Target practice with her and her former boss as the target
Another great read in the series. The missing dog of her former boss has her, him and her dog in the crossfire of a sniper. Why? Who? The case they think is responsible for the attempt has the perpetrator still in prison although he is supposed to go up against the parole board shortly. Abuse, a lesbian affair, a conniving mother, identity fraud and more are all interwoven into a read that will keep you enthralled. As will the fact that her biological father wants to meet with her and the woman that split them up three years ago comes to visit. Will she stop the perpetrator from being eligible for parole? Will she find out who was behind the shooting? Will she forgive Luke? Wonderful storyline and can't wait to see what happens next.
Alex's prior employer, the man who taught her how to be a private investigator, has lost his little dog. Alex brings Hero, her German shepherd search dog, to track the spaniel. Only clues indicate the spaniel was dognapped. Again, great sleuthing lead to a complicated plot where the dognapping was just one component of the plot. I love how Alex follows the leads and does creative searches to figure out the mystery. So many cozy mysteries I read have a lot more on the romance and relationships and little on pursuing clues. Those books end suddenly with the mystery miraculously unfolding. Not here. Not this series. I feel like I am watching a real detective track the clues and evidence and find the culprit. The mysteries are awesome.
Certainly not where one would expect and not a location where one might have to duck for his/her life! Alex and her buddies have to deal with not only the stolen spaniel, but a man who, from his jail cell, has sworn vengeance on Alex and a retired policeman. Is he trying to set up an assassination?
Cozies usually feature amateur detectives, and the protagonist is most definitely not an amateur. However, the stories in the series read like a cozy with the languages and plots. These books are certainly appropriate for adults and teens alike, as well as precocious pre-teens (only you know what's appropriate for your pre-teen). You'll be rooting for the good guys to find the pets safe and sound.
When the beloved dog goes missing,Eddie Hall calls his former employee and current friend, Alexandra (Alex) Prescott. Eddie was the private investigator who owned his own agency and trained her so she could get her license. She now has her own agency, specializing in finding lost pets. She is very good at what she does. I really like her character, as well as those with whom she works and romances. This is a highly recommend series.
The characters are evolving. Shots fired. Misdirected clues point one way. The pet finding business is taking off. Surprises ahead. On to the next in the series. Smiling
Love this series. Alex has some characteristics of mine and some I wish I had. While I wish the stories were longer they are just enough to finish and head to the next adventure.
Alex gets a call from Eddie his dog is missing. Alex takes Hero with her and they go to talk to Eddie and find Daisy, Eddie's dog. Hero follows Daisy's scent, they find her on top of a scaffolding. Someone shoots at them and wounds Hero, Daisy is covered in glass. Hero was only nicked a nd will be okay, Luke is furious. They have to find out who set them up and why. Good story and characters, A good series.
Fast paced and full of action. When Alex gets a call from her old boss and mentor Eddie, she jumps at the chance to help him, even tho Lost and Found Pets is busier than ever. She is in for quite a ride and will have to be at the top of her game, her life just may depend on it. More than just an investigation, Alex has her personal life throwing her curve ball after curve ball. Another amazing adventure with a teaser for the next book that has me anxiously waiting to get my hands on it!
I enjoyed this book. It introduced Eddie and he is a likable character. These are quick, action-packed reads and have caught my attention at the beginning of each book so far. Recommend.
Love This Series The Lost Spaniel is the third novella in B. L. Blair’s Lost and Found Pets series. I love Ms. Blair’s writing style and she has once again succeeded in writing a wonderfully crafted whodunit that held my interest throughout the entire story. This well plotted mystery has a cast of well-developed and affable characters, and sends a strong message of caring and compassion. The story has enough suspects, and twists and turns to keep the reader involved. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good, clean mystery. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.
Alexandra ‘Alex’ Prescott loves animals and is the owner of Lost and Found Pets. Business is booming because a recent client, Grace Carmichael, started spreading the word about her services after Alex found Sammie, her family’s Savannah. When her former boss and mentor, Eddie Hill, contacts her about his missing Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Daisy, she drops everything to help him. Eddie, Alex, and Hero, her German Shepard who is a trained search and rescue dog, follow Daisy’s movements to an abandoned construction site and spot her sitting on the scaffolding. When they start moving toward her, someone starts shooting at them, and Hero is injured. From this point on, nothing matters to Alex except tracking down the shooter and discovering the reason behind the attack.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
