This book could serve as a bit of a mix between a beginners guide to marine aquariums and a reference, I approached this with minimal background having only read a few other beginners guide. I was impressed by both the authors depth and breadth of knowledge, not just theory but clearly practical information as well.

I did find some aspects of the book a bit overwhelming because it is fairly thorough, but if I do go ahead with my own marine system I think I will appreciate the details further in using this as a reference.

If wanting an introduction with a bit more depth and a great overview of different species this book would be highly recommended.

I would really love to have a marine aquarium, but I know I would resent all the maintenance. This is a really informative, comprehensive manual for anyone who has or is thinking about starting a marine aquarium.
