Immortalis Series, Book 1
By: G M Sherwin
Narrated by: Kenneth Bryant
This is an Audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I had read this before but had the chance to listen to it. I still have it the same ratings but I am not disappointed by re-reading. It has action, suspense, good sci-fi, but it is not "hard core" sci-fi and is perfect for those non-sci-fi people! Lol!
The narrator performed fairly well. He kept voices distinctly different and unique.

Oh this is good stuff but do pay attention as it is only a short book, a novella in size so a lot of information and characters seem to appear in rapid succession and these you do need to grasp who is who.
An opening scene and a the discovery by an exploration team of a prophecy told in pictures of what could be the end of the human race results in the guardians being formed. A band of protectors and watchers that secretly look for any sign that it is beginning. They are The Brotherhood.  800 years later and generation after generation have  kept this society going, now their time has come. It just took one probe into a black hole to open unleash a festering evil that had been bound up to now, and it was hungry.
This is the debut novel of this author and he has arrived in style. The opening scene I would say to you read twice because there is so much information in these few pages that makes it easier to understand the connection between the two main characters in the story. It is very much a good versus evil type of read and thoroughly entertaining. There really isn't a word wasted with the short chapters changing from character and scene to keep everything running together. Loved the very descriptive style and rapid changes that took place. Super ending.
I won this book in a competition at an online book launch party for another book. Thank you to Maxine and the Author for this, my prize.

Interesting

This book felt like I was watching a Sci-fi show on tv. This should definitely be made into a show or movie. Can't wait to read book 2!

Gary Sherwin's first published book and I get to read and review it. Won at a book party, the first thing that attracted me was the cover, a bit of an attention grabber, I must say and what a lovely colour. This was going to be amazing and so I tucked into it pretty quickly.
I'm not going to go into detail to give you a synopsis as a description is already at the top of this page somewhere next to that attractive coloured icon of the cover.
Not knowing anything about the book, being a first, I had no expectations apart from knowing it was a horror. It soon transpired that it was a Sci Fi ultimately. That's fine too as I do like some Sci Fi.
The story took off right from the start and the chapters were short so as I turned the page (sounds better than swiped) I wanted to carry on with the next page straight away. There is an immense amount of characters that flit about back and forth that I did get a little confused who was who and felt somewhat overwhelmed at times. Maybe I should have had a notebook beside me? Still, on I went and was enjoying it very much. The story developing, I was ah - ing and oo - ing every so often.
I did find it jumped in rather quickly and developed at fast speed. It charged along like commentator at the Grand National and it wasn't going to slow down for me!
I would have liked it to have moved at a slower pace and watch the characters lives evolve to where the story was going for the reader. I don't feel I knew how or why or what had happened and although I was piecing it together as I was going along, it would have been better with more of a run up, a history. I didn't feel there was anything within the characters that I could connect to. With more given, the connection may have been there.
Three quarters of the way in and take note, this was all over two-three days, I got to the 'horror' part.Very, very mild and not particularly scary. Any of you that like Sci Fi but are not horror fans, give it a go, you will be fine, trust me......or not! Haha.
All in all, a very good debut book and I gave it 3 and half stars for a first book, the content and plot. A 4th star given as Goodreads doesn't do half stars. There is a few small errors along the way which Gary appreciated me telling him about. Naughty proof reader missed them but it didn't deter from the story at all.
I would be very interested to see how the writing and story develops in books two and three.

An evil entity has been awoken after scientists sent a probe into a black hole, and now it wants to destroy everything in its path. This is the classical tale of good against evil in an action-packed novella.
Fast-paced, with some gory parts towards the end, this is a good read for anyone who likes sci-fi and horror. The story is intriguing, and I'd like to see how the author develops it further.
