Resurrection: The Legacy of Starke House

Rate this book
When Cole Pearson finds a great deal on a house, he can’t believe his luck. A new job, a new town, a new home…life couldn’t be better. His wife, Devyn, however, thinks it’s too good to be true.

No sooner than they move in, than objects begin to move from where they were placed, and Devyn quickly realizes the reason the price was so reasonable. Getting a dog to keep Devyn company, while he is out of the house, seems the answer to Devyn’s problem, or so Cole believes. Only the dog, like Devyn, doesn’t want to go in the house, and Devyn wants to leave.

But the house, as Cole is about to discover, is the least of their problems. And what lies ahead…in the dark…in the basement…is something Cole never expected.

‘I promised my mom I would get out of there and get married, and live a happy life with someone who loved me.’

Canadian author E.H. James is a prolific writer of short stories – stories that test the imagination and call forth ghost like thoughts of the dark world about which we know very little. James is part of that conundrum as there is no biographical information on this gifted author as though that is meant to be part of the mysteries presented. We learn that she has read and researched in the areas of parapsychology and metaphysics, for the past 40 years, and has woven the real and imaginary together into stories of the strange and bizarre. The fruits of her labor show!

James’ mastery of the short story is obvious to those readers fortunate to have been introduced to her craft. In a matter a few pages she is able to conjure an atmosphere that challenges the reader’s courage to enter past the initial page, and the manner in which she quickly sketches lifelike characters and draws us into their interactions with the challenges they encounter is masterful.

THE DEMON SERIES of which RESURRECTION: THE LEGACY OF STARKE HOUSE is the third volume demonstrates James’ mastery of the short story. In a brief 45 pages she continues to develop or unravel the mysteries of the eight part series. The entire Demon Series will cover centuries, the third volume opens in California in 2020 (after a brief prologue set in 2008).

James’ synopsis covers the story well ‘When Cole Pearson finds a great deal on a house, he can’t believe his luck. A new job, a new town, a new house…life couldn’t be better. And what lies ahead…in the dark…in the basement…is something Cole never expected.’

Knowing that the series continues makes the mystery of part 3 a very exciting continuation and growth. E.H. James is a master writer

The Starke House tale continues in this the third book in The Demon Series, which must be read in order to fully appreciate the storyline.

A new family and a completely new set of circumstances for this one. Cole Pearson can't believe his luck when he manages to get a great house within his price range. New job, new house, new start, he can't wait. His wife Devyn soon realises why the house was so cheap, when things in the house start moving around on their own. Cole just thinks his wife is a little lonely and a dog is the answer to all his problems, but the dog doesn't want to go into the house and starts acting strangely.

Brilliant, twisted, eerie.... the house is back for more victims.... a great ghost / horror / paranormal read, loving this series!

What another twisted, gory, yet awesome story. This author has a way of writing these horror stories and keeping you glued to it from beginning to end. This story was a shocking one, with one heck of a surprising ending. These new characters were amazing and the story-line was incredible and this one was by far my favorite of the three. I highly recommend this read.

Wow! I mean hello! You got me spooked! Annabelle meets demon possession. What a twist to the story! Also sad! I mean when there is no happy ending to horror you truly know that is a good story. I know weird but horrors are not meant to have happily ever afters. Of course, we don't know this is the first part of the story sort of. I mean I have been loving these books! My favorite so far!

Who would have thought that a house could wreak such havoc on people's lives? Everyone in the knows the story behind the Starke house's existence. People go missing, never to be seen again. Though most would like to ignore the fact that the place is still standing, they know they can't do so. The rumors that surround the place follow them everywhere they go. So much so, that they're no longer sure what to make of things. Such is the case when Cole Pearson lands himself smack-dab in the middle of the controversy that surrounds the house itself.

The more you read of this series, the more it leaves you wanting more. Resurrection plunges us further into the dark and twisted world E. H. James has created. A world that makes you question everything you come across. With every book, we meet new characters and are given further glimpses into the house's secrets and the circumstances these characters find themselves in.

And to think it all starts with what seems to be a simple, uninhabited house. Appearances are deceiving, however. No one knows what lurks behind closed doors. Nor do we know what the inhabitants of a place can leave behind. Cole, Max, Jesse, and all the rest who've made their presences known within this series have seen evil stand before them in its ugliest of forms.

None of them could have imagined what transpired from the moment they stepped through the house's doors. With every turn of the page, E. H. shows us how the house is perceived by those who come in contact with it. We're shown just how much the entity living within its walls yearns to be set free. This is a being who craves chaos and does everything possible to obtain it. Cole and the others become unwilling participants in the creature's sordid games. There's definitely more in store for the house and its surrounding neighborhood. Can't wait to see if this evil will be fully vanquished in the long run.
