The blurb for this book attracted me because I found the idea of as strong female main character in a Western novel intriguing and unusual. The author's depiction of Delilah did not disappoint me and I enjoyed how her character developed from that of an angry young woman, recently released after a two-year stint in prison for murdering her abusive step-father, to a woman capable of standing up for the underdog, acting in line with her own ethics and morals and entering into a relationship with a caring and interesting man.

Despite being her seemingly unjust jail term, Delilah has the good fortune to meet an older woman called Abby during her incarceration. Abbey is able to protect her from some of the worst possible eventualities in prison and also offers her a place to stay after her release. Abbey has hopes of a better life for her daughter, Sarah, so when Delilah decides to leave and return to her own ranch, Abbey convinces her to take Sarah with her.

Delilah's return to her past life starts badly when she and Sarah are attacked and raped by two savage criminals while journeying to her previous home. Sarah is taken captive and Delilah is left for dead after the two men attempt to hang her. Delilah survives and sets off in search of Sarah in the hope that she can rescue her. She soon has the good luck to come across a family of Mormons who have become separated from their travel party and who are prepared to give her some much needed food and other aid. In return, she helps the father repair their wagon so that the family can continue their journey. They suggest that Delilah travels with them, which she does until fate strikes again and redirects Delilah's life again.

This book provided some interesting insights into life among the different types of people trying to eke out an existence on the Western front from the Mormons, to criminals, miners and owners of bordellos. The reader is introduced to the Ute tribe of native Americans and learns a bit about their way of life and the conflict between the tribes and the white settlers.

Delilah: The Frontier Romance will interest readers of Westerns and also action packed adventures with a sprinkling of romance.

Having experienced the worst that life in the Old West has to offer to a woman: prison, rape, physical abuse, attempted lynching, she wins out in the end through sheer determination and a character of tempered steel.

The plot held my attention, and the settings and characters were well-drawn. Author Kaye Lynne Booth has created a three-dimensional female protagonist who is easy to root for. I am looking forward to the next book in this series with eager anticipation.

Delilah is an engaging story set in the western hills of Colorado in 1882. Delilah is a troubled young woman set on revenge, seemingly at every turn. Her ability to love has been affected by harrowing crimes she witnessed as a teenager, yet she remains loyal to those who have helped her along the way.

Action and adventure await as she travels with her sixteen-year-old friend headed to her family’s ranch to repay a debt. Along the way, she and her friend are raped; Delilah is left for dead while her friend is captured and carried away. The rape scenes were perhaps too real for my taste, yet it was not as graphic as contemporary novels often portray.

Feeling responsible for her friend, Delilah sidelines her destination as she searches for Sarah and their attackers. She encounters friends and enemies as she seeks to right the wrongs.

This novel is listed as a frontier romance, so it won’t be a spoiler if I mention Delilah finds her way to love again. The characters that help her along the way are kind-hearted, but I wished for more development of the love relationships in the story.

All in all, I think this is a good beginning for a promising author. I look forward to more from her.

Having spent two years in prison because of the poor justice system, Delilah returned.
Together with her sixteen-year-old friend, Sarah, they headed out to San Luis to check out her home.
Unfortunately, the two girls got separated.
Sarah was taken captive by two men and Delilah went in search of her.
It was Delilah’s intention to take revenge from Sarah’s captors.
It was not an easy road to find Sarah.
Delilah encountered wolves, bears, and ruffians along the way in true wild west style.
The story is filled with action and adventure.
Kaye Lynne Booth is a talented writer.
I highly recommend the book.

“The Wild West From A Woman’s Saddle.”

Delilah was imprisoned for murder, even though it was self-defense. She’s released after two years, and rides off with young friend, Sarah, but they are soon separated. Two men rape the girl and carry her off, but Delilah follows them to seek revenge and get her back. The trail is a hard one, with many dangers and terror, and before trail’s end our heroine must face Indians, wolves, bears, and violent men. It will take a woman of substance to persevere, a woman of the West.

This was a wild-west yarn as seen from a woman’s saddle, in a west still young and violent, told in a voice as entertaining as Louis L’Amour or Max Brand, but with an adult savvy. There is action from beginning to end. Highly recommended.

Delilah: The Frontier Romance: A Western ( A Colorado Western Saga Book 1)

The novel is set in the Colorado mountains in 1882. I thought the author described the mountains and characters in an excellent way. I was able to envision all the scenes of this story.

Delilah is a tough young woman who was recently released from a two-year prison sentence for killing her step-father who had abused and murdered her mother and sister. She goes to stay with an older woman, Abbey, who had protected her in prison. Delilah stays for a while, but decides she must go check on the family property that had been looked after by a caretaker while she was in prison. Abbey wants a better life for her daughter Sarah, so when Delilah gets ready to leave, Abbey convinces Delilah to take the sixteen-year-old girl with her. On the way, the two women are attacked by men who rape, torture them and leave them for dead. Strung up by a rope twisted around her neck, Delilah manages to get free with the help of her horse. The men kidnap Sarah and Delilah vows to find her girl. Seeking revenge on the men who hurt her and finding Sarah are foremost in her mind as she makes her way.

Delilah meets more bad luck on her journey. She's attacked by bears, wolves and Indians. Even the weather is against her. She continues on horseback through frigid temperatures, icy roads and blizzards. Delilah makes several friends who help her. A Mormon family on their way to Utah offers her shelter and food until she recovers. But misfortune follows Delilah once more when savage Ute Indians set fire to the covered wagon and kill the family. Again, Delilah must make her way alone.
Delilah makes several friends in a small mining village she eventually reaches such as the friendly woman who owns a bordello, a doctor who patches up Delilah's many injuries, and a helpful Ute Indian father and son who agree to help her find Sarah. Delilah finds romance at last when the mining company manager courts her and invites her to a dance.

Some of her new friends try to tame Delilah, but she keeps fighting for what she knows is right. It would be great to continue Delilah's story. I hope the author writes a sequel. Readers who like western stories, especially about strong women will find Delilah the perfect book. I highly recommend it!

What would you do if life shattered in an instant, and survival depended on your sheer willpower?

This question lingers as you turn the pages of Delilah, the first book in the Women in the West Adventure Series by Kaye Lynne Booth, an amazing and heart-pounding adventure. Set against the rugged backdrop of the Colorado mining town, this book tells a tale of resilience and redemption that captivates from start to finish.

This book is an emotional and gripping read. The highlight I loved about this book is its strong female protagonist who fights against all odds with unmatched determination. The storyline is both intense and inspiring, blending action, emotion, and vivid imagery seamlessly.

The author has created a world rich with historical depth and emotional resonance. Every scene feels alive, painted with careful detail that pulls the reader into the heart of the wilderness.

The writing is straightforward yet impactful, drawing readers into a gripping narrative filled with moments of triumph and heartache. The pacing keeps you hooked, and the characters’ struggles and triumphs are beautifully portrayed.

This book is a compelling read for anyone who enjoys stories of courage, survival, and personal transformation. I found this book to be deeply moving and unforgettable.

The author’s ability to weave such a powerful tale is impressive, and the way emotions are conveyed is masterful. I can’t wait to explore more of their work.

Overall, a captivating and empowering journey.

“Delilah” is set in the 1880s and follows a young woman just released from prison for defending herself and her family. She sets out to return to the family ranch with a young girl, Sarah when they are attacked. Delilah was beaten, raped, and almost lost her life when they tried to hang her. Instead of giving up, even with all the bad that’s happened to her, Delilah’s strength keeps her going. She’s determined to locate the men who attacked her and find Sarah, who was kidnapped. Luck brings her to a family who helps, but cruel fate intervenes and she’s on her own again. Her journey leads her to a thriving mining town and a job. When she isn’t protecting herself from criminals, there are grizzlies and other wild animals to deal with too. Delilah is a character I couldn’t help but root for. She’s not afraid of hard work or to stand up to injustice. I love some relationships she develops, including a potential love interest. My favorite though is the bond with a local Ute boy. The well-written settings and descriptions brought me deeper into Delilah’s world. This is a gritty, fast-paced Western with a strong female character that I can easily recommend. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

In Kaye Lynne Booth's Delilah, from her Women of the West series (Wordcrafter Press 2023), no one who knows Delilah will think she’s had an easy life. Despite beauty--marred by a scar on her cheek--she spent too long in prison for the crime of defending herself. Out now, she wants to return to her ranch or whatever is left of it and start over. But her luck remains bad as a young girl she is traveling with is kidnapped by outlaws and Delilah is beaten and left for dead. She isn’t though and now is bent on justice. Along the way to righting wrongs, she makes friends with and Indian boy, kills a grizzly, maybe finds love (no spoilers)--and that’s all in the first 50 pages.

A delightful read for those who love old west stories and women who just won’t quit.
