The mysterious island by Jules Vernes was a pretty good and quick reading. I liked this book because of the way things happen at the island and how they were helped each other as a team.

This is a story of exploration, adventure, and survival. Jules Verne hooks the reader immediately with his colorful description of a tremendous storm which captures a hot air balloon. The balloon carries 5 men and 1 dog who have stolen the balloon to escape Civil War captivity. After much turmoil and almost certain death, the men manage to barely make it to an unknown island.

The men use their ingenuity to create living spaces, tools, and ammenities to make life survivable. Eventually, others arrive on the island and a settlement is established. Convicts try to take over the island for its resources and because it make a great hiding place. Fever runs through the settlers. A mysterious powder is found that may be able to treat malaria. And, the threat of death appears again when Captain Nemo (from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) tells the inhabitants that the volcanic island is quickly breaking apart and will surely explode. Which it does! What happens to our would be settlers? You must read, to discover the truth....

The Mysterious Island falls under realistic fiction. A grade level equivalent was only given in Lexile format which is 510L. I am not familiar with Lexile. I used my app, "Lit Leveler," and checked Scholastic Book Wizard to try and find the level. Other books by Jules Verne range from 3rd grade to 12th. I chose this book because I loved Journey to the Center of the Earth and had heard there was a connection to The Mysterious Island. I think a teacher could use Jules Verne books as a compare/contrast unit in the older grades. Jules does a great job of tying the Mysterious Island to 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. Jules finally explains how Captain Nemo dies!

3. Island, helper, live, cave, visitor, mysterious, men

4. "We are not the only people on this island. Somebody's here with us. Somebody's helping us ."
It is very mysterious and interesting. Are there other people on the island?? Who is it?? I wanted to read more when I read this phrase.

5. This is a interesting book!! Three men and the boy arrive on a strange island. Mysterious things happen to them there.
Also, I thought It is too hard to live in a island because there is no item for us, so I have to get foods and house.

A shockingly little-known swashbuckling/homebuilding/island paradise epic, sneakily turns out to be a sequel, filled with tidbits like how to build a drawbridge and make wool felt. Also fascinating in its historical references--the characters escape from a Civil War prison camp and fly by balloon to the remote South Pacific. Excellent escapist fun.

Jules Verne is brilliant! This has now become my favorite novel! It is incredibly exciting and suspenseful! Listened to it on Audible and the 19+ hours seemed to fly by. I'm glad that I read J V's other novels first-especially, "20,000
Leagues Under the Sea." "Voyage to the Center of the Earth" is good too. The suspense just builds and builds! The ending was completely unexpected, but brilliant!

Después de leer la República de Platón y el príncipe por Maquiavelo, dos lecturas algo pesadas, decidi leer este, tan fácil de leer como entretenido cada vez te intriga más y no parar de leer.

A thrilling adventure read, maybe somewhat dry at times if one doesn't appreciate scientific details.
