Olivia Rae spent her school days dreaming of knights, princesses and far away kingdoms; it made those long, boring days in the classroom go by much faster. Nobody was more shocked than her when she decided to become a teacher. Besides getting her Master’s degree, marrying her own prince, and raising a couple of kids, Olivia decided to breathe a little more life into her childhood stories by adding in what she’s learned as an adult with her first Christian romance series, The Sword and the Cross Chronicles. When not writing, she loves to travel, dragging her family to old castles and forts all across the world.
This installment in the series does not dissapoint! It will inspire you to consider God's love and forgiveness as well as true love! I loved this book and the whole series, can't wait to read more from this author
I so enjoyed this book! I liked Hugh and Eleanor as individuals and in the chemistry towards each other. The whole series is so good and this was a great addition!
I have read all of Ms. Rae's books and I have to say this one had the strongest Christian message of them all. I do hope she continues to write these types of books. I would love to see Darrin's or Theo's story. Keep writing, Ms. Rae!
Olivia Rae does it again! Hugh and Eleanor are wonderful characters and I loved being along on their journey of faith and love. So sorry this is the last book in the series. Rae does such a great job of setting the scenes in medieval times, I’ll miss these escapes to the past. Maybe I’ll just start with book one again!
My review today is on the Medieval Romance, Resurrection. This is the fourth book in The Sword and the Cross Chronicles. I have loved this series and was afraid this was the last one but I now I found out there is still another one, Praise God. This is my favorite of the series but then I said the same about book three. I did really love this one. It is well written, heart warming, and humorous. I felt bad for Hugh in the last two books so I'm glad he has his own story; I really like Lady Eleanor, and the old man came back. I loved that they all talked about the old man later in the story.
Lord Thornwood Hugh de Maury is trying to rebuild his keep. His wife had almost destroyed the place. (book one) Now that she is dead he is trying to make his keep the best one round. He works constantly so when King Richard charges Hugh to find a husband for his wife's orphaned cousin Hugh is not pleased. He has to much too do to find a mate for this cousin. She arrives early to make things worse. The girl is plain and has no dowry; no one wishes to wed her. She is taking over his keep; what is he going to do with her? The king decides she needs the lands of her uncle's keep to entice someone to marry her. What this does is cause a circus in the keep as men from all over descend on them.
Lady Eleanor de Tanie has been moved around all her life. She's gone from one relative to another so she's pleased when the king says the Lord Thornwood must find her a husband. Her uncle would soon die and she had no other place to go. The only problem is she has always been in love with Hugh. Now he is to find her a husband. He ignores her for quite awhile so she just works with his people to make the keep better. He finally asks her to make a list of her assets so he can find her a mate. It takes her all day to come up with a list of five things and none of them will help Hugh. She couldn't lie. He offers her a task to keep her busy. She wants to build a chapel but that's the last thing he wants.
A journey of two broken souls as they struggle to do the will of their king. A king and his brother's matchmaking game and an angel that tries to guide him in the right direction. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart, trust Him in all His ways and watch Him move in your life
This has been an enchanting series for me to read. This particular story was about Hugh and Eleanor, but all the characters from the past stories all made an uplifting appearance along with some new ones. These have become special people to me and I am looking forward to two things. I just noticed there will be another book released in this series!! So hopefully I will get to see these characters again and meet more new ones. Olivia Rae has done a great job of making her books "draw you into the story". There is so much faith and belief in God in her books that I actually felt surrounded and uplifted myself. I have loved the distinct "old man" that has appeared in each book. My ONE complaint in ALL of her books is that toward the end of this book I started to notice several editing errors which had not been present before. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves to read. Christian or not; young or old;
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and I was absolutely not under any obligations. I have personally chosen to write this review and these are totally my own viewpoints. Vicki from Wyoming
SENSUALITY RATING: No PROFANITY; No SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS; No Euphemistic "CODE WORDS
GENRE: Historical English Romance; CLEAN Romance; Inspirational Romance;
SETTING: Thornwood Keep, England.
CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER: Lady ELEANOR de TANIE – playful and considerate; age 20; looks are plain; speaks her mind; cheerful and helpful to all.
CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: HUGH de MAURY/Lord Thornwood – a focused and committed workhorse; suspicious who’s only intent is to build up Thornwood Keep.
SYNOPSIS: The king had assigned Hugh with the task of finding a husband for Lady Eleanor, cousin of his former wife Jane. He expects her to be pushy but instead finds her being playful with the servants as they cheered her on. He refuses to allow his son to be anything other than a knight.
WHAT I LIKED: Busy Isobel. She is so adorable.
RATING: (5) stars BECAUSE each plot has action worthy of reading. Once again, the author provides each character with personality; very detailed. Yes, I have read 4 books and cannot help but come back for more. On my way to the next book; Adoration (The Sword and the Cross Chronicle #5).
The Sword and the Cross Chronicles continues with Resurrection and what a great addition to the series. I've been binge reading this series and have been enjoying living in the past with these cast of characters. In this book the story focuses on Hugh, the brother of Julian from book 2, and Lady Eleanor. I can't praise enough this author's work. She writes well researched inspirational fiction that highlights God's truth and promises.This book has a reoccurring phrase "come to see" that a wise old man utters to Hugh awakening his faith and his understanding of the love that surrounds him. It made me pause and think of what I am allowing to go unnoticed because I am too busy or preoccupied with work. Favorite quotes and truths: "Father, everything we do, God can change for the better even if we make bad decision. The Lord can turn them around for our good if we let Him..." "I have learned that past is just that and should be forgotten. I have come to see that the love of a good woman is a precious gift from God. Most of all, I have learned that man can plan, but God directs."
An enjoyable book, but a few observations to be made: - The idea of a woman choosing her own husband would not have been so far-fetched as the novel makes out. Such things actually happened quite frequently even in the 12th century - There is a scene that is directly borrowed from a certain Disney movie (Brave) right down the colour of the dress. - The religion. Its not Medieval Christianity. I have a Catholic friend who can attest to the fact that Medieval prayers were a lot more formal and ritualized.
They also didn't have any concept of God having an individual plan for each person's life. Roles in society were much more rigid and formalized, and those were believed to be ordained of God. Hence why a peasant girl sassing a nobleman would have been a mich bigger deal.
Overall not a bad book, but not very accurate. A fun light read.
At last the continuation of Hugh's story unfolds to satisfy my curiosity about this intrguing character who was introduced in Book 2 in a rather unfavourable light. He made a brief appearance in Book 3 in a more favourable light. Now, there is hope for this character to become the man God would want him to be. Into his disciplined world comes an unusual woman who shakes up everything he has worked so hard to bring into orderly productivity. Hugh has met his match and she lights a consuming fire in him that makes for entertaining reading.
I am SO glad I bought these books by Olivia Rae. I am reading the last one and I want MORE, MORE, MORE! I was so interested in this series that I couldn't read the books fast enough to find out what else would happen!!!! She is a talented author and knows her history and customs of the times. These books can be read stand alone but I would NOT recommend that. GET THEM ALL!!!!!! Each book brings in characters from the previous books in minor ways just to make the connection between them. GO FOR IT. I can't say enough.
A Medieval must read. I cheered for Lady Eleanor and Hugh de Maury to finally put aside all their baggage and get together. Olivia Rae sets the stage for a fun, fast, and endearing story of finding true love in a time period where arranged marriages existed. Spunky heroines are my favorites, and Lady Eleanor shined as a good-hearted, knows-what-she-wants woman. Rae wraps up her series with appearances by former favorite characters.
I chose this rating for the biblical references, intrigue, character development and expert telling of the story of a family in the long past. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
Excellent read! The first Medieval fiction book for me, I am definitely reading the rest of this series. Too good to want to put down for any length of time. Olivia is an excellent writer and keeps you invested in the story.
I like this series as it depict s a different slant on the Templar s that I have long been fascinated with. I love the touch of the Mystic with God showing up Each of us need that touch & guidance of the Divine.
