Life’s a Witch This collection includes the first five books in the Witches of Winterfield series:
Pretty Hexed Festively Hexed Fairly Hexed Party Hexed Love Hexed
Join Belladonna Nightshade and friends on a magical ride through the small town of Winterfield. There will be murder, mystery, and plenty of mayhem. These stories are full of friends and family solving the crimes and having one spell of a good time.
Hexed is suitable for readers of all ages who enjoy lighthearted paranormal cozies.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
I tried, but swapping between past and present tense was irritating to say the least. Also calling the detective randomly Ben, Detective Ben, Detective Benjamin and Detective Carmichael drove me to distraction. This book needs serious proofreading before I would be willing to read it again. The story seems promising though, as far as I managed to get. I know this review is harsh but I could not recommend this book as it is. If it is updated with amendments I would happily read and possibly improve the rating.
>>>>> Review Festively Hexed <<<<< This is a 5-book awesome set. I am focusing on Book 2 as a representative sample of the goodies inside! Buy the Box Set and enjoy them all!!! It’s a charming series!
Belladonna heard a scream outside her beauty salon. Mrs Frost, wife of the Chief of Police, was on her cell phone and upset. She said that Santa was dead! Santa happened to be an ex-con relative that they hired for the holiday. Detective Ben, Bella’s boyfriend, showed up on the scene to start the investigation. Bella went through the list of suspects – those she had seen in town that morning – and did not find a likely culprit. But when she called her friend, Murielle, the librarian was crying because her boyfriend, Luke, had been suspended from the force. It wasn’t said outright, but since he was a shifter and the murder was so savage . . .
Detective Ben entered the salon to ask the ladies questions. Mona remembered seeing a huge white animal of some sort running near the diner, but the sun glare kept her from being sure what it was. Luke was a black wolf, so that could be important.
The clues were adding up and pointing in all directions. Would Ben or Bella be able to solve this mystery before more harm came to the town? Would justice be served in time for a happy Christmas?
I loved the characters in this book. There were various kinds of paranormals there, which made it fun and quirky. I also think it was a good mystery, so I have no problem recommending it! And you’ll have 4 others to draw you in and entertain! Grab that set!
I like this series but it has a few issues. Sometimes it has way too much silliness going on--the section with the illusions is a case in point. It is a pretty good story but sometimes the author gets stuck in storytelling mode instead of allowing the characters to move the story forward. I feel as if I'm sitting around a campfire hearing a story instead of watching a movie in my head which is what happens to me when the characters tell the story. At any rate, it's worth reading because the characters are attractive and the plot is entertaining but it could use a hard rewrite.
