Alyson is jogging along waters edge when the fog rolls in. She can feel someone watching her but no matter how hard she looks her shadow cannot be seen. When she witnesses a man pushing a woman off the cliff onto the rocks below, she calls the police only to learn that the body of the victim cannot be found. Alyson is certain that she actually did see the murder occur and cannot explain the missing victim so she launches into an investigation with the help of friends Mac and Trevor. Meanwhile the feeling of being watched intensifies. She is certain someone is watching her. When Chan warns her of danger in the shadows she knows deep in her gut that the men she is running from have found her. Find out what happens in this fast paced murder mystery with a surprising twist you won't see coming.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

The Shadow is the sixth book in the Seacliff High Mystery series written by Kathi Daley. When I purchased the first book in this series, it was for one of my granddaughters but another reader suggested I would enjoy reading it and I’m so glad I listened to her! This fast-paced book has an intriguing plot that involves teenagers solving mysteries, as well as a great storyline and excellent character development. I love Ms. Daley’s writing style; there is always a strong message of the value of friendships and family, while incorporating intriguing mysteries. I highly recommend this series to readers of all ages who enjoy a good, clean mystery.
Alyson Prescott is 17 years old and has lived in the town of Cutter’s Cove, Oregon with her mother and faithful dog, Tucker, for the last nine months. Life has been difficult for Alyson, who was forced into Witness Protection when her best friend was murdered after they had witnessed a gangland murder. She had to leave her father and her friends back in New York, but she’s adjusted to her new life, although she worries the Bonatello brothers will find her. Ever since she’s been in Cutter’s Cove, she’s seen quite a few strange things and isn’t sure if she’s seeing and hearing ghosts or something else, but her visions have given her key clues in solving mysteries. While jogging near Dead Man’s Bluff on May 22nd, she thinks someone is watching her and then she witnesses a man pushing a woman off the cliff, but when the police investigate, there is no body or signs of a struggle. Alyson knows what she saw and convinces her two best friends, Mackenzie “Mac” Reynolds and Trevor Johnson, to help her investigate. They soon discover that a death has been occurring at this location on the 27th day of May, every twenty-five years and all have ruled as accidents or suicides. With the help of Booker, a retired school librarian, they date the occurrences back to 1867. The pressure is on to solve this quickly and prevent Alyson from being the next victim on the 27th. In addition to these mysterious deaths, Alyson learns that a classmate, Jessica Henderson, is pregnant and may have been drugged and raped at party. The trio investigates in an effort to help her figure out what happened to her and identity of the baby’s father.
Kathi Daley has won me over to her books. I do enjoy young adult books and I find it a welcomed change of pace to have the mysteries to be solved by young group of kids that show more maturity than most adults. With adults that are tastefully put in the background but still are there to help, Alyson and her quirky friends (and a couple ghosts here and there) solve some interesting mysteries. This series is fun and a quick read.
This is the first book that I have read in this series, but I now know I have to go back and read the rest. I put off reading the series as I thought they appeared to be geared for kids. Boy, was I ever wrong! If you are looking for a book with paranormal aspects that you can share with your teenagers, this is it. The author pretty much scared me to death! I have to admit that I didn't guess how this story would end.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Wow! I think this book is the best yet in the Seacliff High series! Packed with suspense, wicked twists and as always, Ms. Daley's wonderful style, combining mystery with the value of family and friends. I'd recommend this for teens and adults alike. Simply Awesome!
I am so glad that Kathi Daley has continued this series. It is an exciting, fast paced mystery with events that will have you shocked! Alyson is out for a jog with her dog when a thick fog rolls in and she gets the feeling of being watched. Next thing she knows she witnesses a person being pushed off the edge of Dead man's cliff! When she calls the police she is shocked and confused to find out there was no body? Is she just seeing ghosts again or is something else going on that may have her in danger. She along with the help of her friends Mac and Trevor and old school librarian begin investigating and discover a pattern that occurs every 25 years. The problem with this pattern is that some one ends up dead! What can they do to stop this cycle before it takes another innocent life??? I recieved a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
“Seacliff High: The Shadow” earns 5/5 Mysterious Apparitions!
Seventeen year old Alyson Prescott is enjoying a run along the foggy bluffs of Cutter’s Cove, but she has an odd feeling she’s being watched. Not unusual for someone in the Witness Protection Program, but this seems different. While on the phone with her BFF, she hears an argument and sees someone pushed off the cliff…”Call 911!” Police search the area and find nothing, but she can’t shake the reality of what she saw. It must have been a ghost… Yes, Alyson arrived in Cutter’s Cove nine months ago, and in dramatic fashion discovered she can see ghosts. So, she, her BFFs, and a retired librarian set off to research deaths in the area discovering unusual events dating back to 1867. This is not good, the voices she hears and apparitions she sees could mean in a few days…another death at Dead Man’s Bluff! Alison attends Cutter’s Cove High School with all the typical cliques and teenage angst, but she discovers a horrific secret of a classmate…well, no secret is safe in high school, so of course, everyone knows. But, the idea a classmate may have been drugged and assaulted is something Alyson will not let go. Everything (ghosts, killers, rapists) may converge in Cutter’s Cove, but who will survive?
I am not new to Kathi Daley’s work…I tout myself as a big, big fan! However, I am new to this Seacliff High series, so this sixth book turned out to be the perfect introduction: Witness Protection identity? Moving to the Oregon coast? Being able to see ghosts? Who knew high school drama could be…deadly? Fans of the series have to be absolutely thrilled having waited over a year for this new installment. And as a newbie, I didn’t feel that I was left out of the back story and character connections having not read the previous five books…although I am very excited to do so. Don’t make my mistake and shy away from this series because the characters are high schoolers. It is well written and engaging, and the characters, although young, are well developed and do not act overly childish. The mystery is clever weaving events from the past into Alyson’s contemporary problems, and her ability to see ghosts is not juvenile hocus-pocus. I highly recommend the book, then spend the summer reading the rest of the series from the beginning!
The Shadow is book six in Seacliff High Mystery by the prolific author Kathi Daley. Alyson is sensitive and perceptive where atypical, unusual sensations or things are in her environment. From the first paragraph through to the end of this story, Alyson’s senses were tingling; something paranormal? Something ghostly? Why Alyson? Was someone pushed off Dead Man’s Cliff on a foggy night? As this mystery unravels, Alyson, Mac and Trevor will be delving into local lore and history to solve two mysteries, one present and one quite old. Can they determine the course of events before any additional lives are lost? The characters in this series are well-developed, the plot is tightly woven with multiple twists and turns, both recent and historical. Alyson holds a secret close to her heart. Will that secret have to be revealed? Even though this series was described as young adult literature, Ms. Daley has crafted this mystery to bridge the range from teens to those readers that are young at heart. A must read. Have a box of tissues handy. This may be the most intense cozy mystery of this series. It is one cozy mystery aficionados don’t want to miss. Emotionally intense, the cliffhanger leaves the reader wanting more! I love this series and recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery.
Kathi delivers another fabulous read. While jogging Alyson sees an incident on the bluff but when the police show up they can't find anything to substantiate her claims. Did she really see anything or was she just imagining it? Alyson believes that she saw something so with the help of her friends, young and old alike, they look for answers. What they discover is an event that has been occurring every 25 years for quite a while and if they don't figure out how to resolve it Alyson will be the next victim. Will they be able to stop the same thing from happening to Alyson before it's to late? During all of this Alyson is also trying to help out a classmate who finds herself in trouble and doesn't know who to turn to for help. Considered a young adult novel Kathi really knows how to breach the age barrier, I love this series and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery.
It amazes me how high school students can be so methodical in dealing with problems and coming up with solutions. I don’t believe that would have been my friends back then. Course we weren’t living the life of Alyson. I can’t even. This story just keeps moving right along and I couldn’t stop till I finished it. I’m saddened, but can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Alyson, Mac, and Trevor are trying to solve 2 crimes...one present and one from the past, all while Alyson tries to figure out who is following her. A wonderful addition to the series, with some strange twists. It is worth reading. Enjoy!
I can't believe how this left things. I'm going to go nuts waiting for the next book to come out. To say these are addictive is the understatement of the century.
This is the sixth book in the series, and it continues to be amazing. This one focuses more on Alyson herself, as she spends much of the book trying to keep her friends out of solving the mystery in order to protect them--and this time, solving the mystery from the past also means saving Alyson's life in the present!
We get a bigger dose of Alyson's ability to see spirits in this book, which revolves around a tragic event replaying itself every 25 years. Throughout the book, there is a foreshadowing of something else going on as well--something that leads to a very bittersweet ending of the story.
Once again, Ms. Daley has done a fabulous job with characters and plot. I have loved this series, and highly recommend it to teens and adults alike.
Meet Alyson Prescott and her best friends, Mac and Trevor. Alyson and her mother were killed off and relocated to Cutter's Cove, Oregon by their handler in the Witness Protection Program. The former Amanda Parker, heiress to millions and her best friend had witnessed a mob connected killing in their home town of New York City. After her friend was tortured and killed, Amanda became Alyson and started an entirely new and completely different life. After nine months in Cutter's Cove Alyson, Mac and Trevor have solved several murders and learned to accept Alyson's physic connection to her new home. When Alyson is out for her daily run with her puppy Tucker, she overhears two people arguing and one of them falling off the cliff top. When the police are unable to find a body or any signs of a struggle, Alyson and her new friends start their own investigation. When their search turns up several unexplained deaths that have happened every twenty-five years in the same spot, they know they have to solve the mystery to break the cycle that goes back over a hundred and fifty years. This series was geared for an YA audience but it is much more than that. The characters, setting and background are well done and make a perfect balance for the paranormal and Witness Protection Program aspects. As this adventure ends, we find Alyson, her mother and their handler on the run from the mob killers who have discovered their new identities and location. Their flight takes them to Madrona Island where they meet the characters in a crossover with the author's Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery Series. Will the killers be caught, will Alyson be able to return to her new life in Cutter's Cove and what about the friends and family from her original life in New York? I am anxiously awaiting another chapter in Alyson's life as she meets the wonderful people and mystical cats who live on Madrona Island in Taming Of The Tabby.
The Shadow is number 6 in the Seacliff High series. This series was originally written for young adults but I found it to be a great read for all ages. Even if you haven’t read any of the other books in this series you will find this is written in such a way it is free standing. The main character, Alyson Prescott, and her mother were in the Witness Protection Plan and had just been moved to Cutter’s Cove, Oregon nine months ago. Since their move Alyson has been able to see visions of ghosts. Taking a jog to help clear her mind Alyson and her German Shepherd, Tucker, lose track of time and soon fog moves in. When her phone rings, Alyson’s best friend Mackenzie Reynolds calls to find out where she is since Alyson had set up a study date with Mac. While Alyson and Mackenzie are talking, Alyson suddenly see two people arguing at the edge of the cliff and the man pushes the woman over the cliff. Alyson screams to Mac to call 911 drops her phone and runs to help whoever went over the edge. When the police and rescue units show up they rappelled down the cliff but stated they had found no body when they came back up. The police man questions Alyson on what she saw for sure and told her that nothing was found, that perhaps she needed to go home and get something to eat, that perhaps she was light-headed from jogging and the cold. In the nine months since Alyson and her mother had moved to Cutter Cove, Alyson had seen a lot of strange things and each had been a key clue in significant mysteries. Was Alyson’s recent vision another clue to a mystery and what would Alyson, Mac and Alyson’s other friend Trevor Johnson figure out the mystery this vision fit?
I've had different experiences of what I had liked and what was just average in reading each book. So far, I've only given a high score of 4 stars but no lower than 3 stars after reading each book. This book was by far the best and it was more of a "page turner" for me and I read it in one sitting. The story was good but it's the ending which garnered the most surprise from me. If your following the series then I don't want to mention anything that would change your reaction in the books ending. I'll just end my review by saying that I've already downloaded Book 7 and almost didn't want to take the time to leave my review because I'm so curious about the new direction of the storyline based on my surprise at the ending of Book 6. I hope it's as good as this book and the Author set it up perfectly. The story could truly go anywhere now and I'm eager to start the next book. I'm getting nothing DONE this week because I haven't been willing to put down the last 2 books. I'm leaving on vacation in just 3 days. At some point I am going to have to put my Kindle down or I'm going to end up in Savannah, Georgia with nothing to unpack when we arrive at our condo for the next 8 days! I guess that would be a perfect "emergency excuse" to go shopping 😉 However, it would certainly start our vacation on a sour note for my husband, lol
The book starts out with a strange feeling, sort of ghosty or paranormal. If you have read previous books in this series you will know that Alyson is sensitive to unusual things. She also has a secret past and is now in witness protection. This is covered, so you won't be lost if this is your first time reading this engaging series. While aimed at teenage or young adults, older adults will not be bored as Kathi doesn't lower her standards or write as if to a less aware audience.
This book covers some mature teen topics as the kids get involved in uncovering details of an unsupervised teenage party. All while having a more supernatural mystery to solve at Dead Man's Bluff. A mystery that will not leave Alyson alone.
The book is intense in an emotional way. The main characters are intelligent and dedicated, Alyson mature beyond her years. Whatever clues the reader puts together as the kids discover facts, the ending will leave you both emotionally drained and wanting to know more.
Alyson finds herself jogging in the fog feeling that she is being watched when she sees a couple fighting and then the female is falling off the cliff. When the police arrive they cannot find a body and assume she made up the story but she believes it is real.
She and her friends up investigating and finds out there been a string of similar deaths that occur on the same death since 1897. The victims appear to look like her and happened to see the same scene and died a few days afterward on the same date. Time is running out as the date approaches will she be another victim?
In the meantime, she still feels like she is being watched. Is her time running out as her identity might be in danger. Another exciting story by the author leaving you on your toes.
The Shadow ( Seacliff High-Book #6) By: Kathi Daley The Shadow is book six in Seacliff High Mystery by Kathi Daley. Ms Daley grabbed me right at the start and I was hooked till the end. She did not disappoint me . I believe this was her best in this series. I highly recommend The Shadow to all generations even though it is geared toward the younger generation. All will enjoy it. Daley gives us two mysteries to solve in The Shadow , one in the past and the other in the present. Alyson is really involved in this mystery . Alyson , Mac, and Trevor all are rushing to solve these two mysteries. Can and will they solve them in time ? This was a wonderful addition to this series and I cant wait to read the next one.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Alyson is jogging along the water's edge when fog rolls in. She feels someone watching her but cannot see anyone. She does see a couple on the cliff and watches as a woman is thrown off. She calls the police but no body is found nor is there any sign of disturbance. Alyson along her friends, Mac And Trevor, begin an investigation and learn that on May 27th, 25 years ago the body of a young girl was found at the base of the cliffs and that every 25 years going back to the 1800's the same thing occurred on the same date. Alyson also learns that the men she witnessed killing a man have learned where she is so she and her mom must pick up stakes.
This was a quick but fun read. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
OMG my heart goes out to Alyson! Shadow is #6 in the Seacliff High series and has become my favorite. This book can be read as a standalone but that being said, I think you will find you will want to read the others to get the full story. This mystery is full of suspense, drama, real life events, and the supernatural -- with a combination like that, you can bet you won't want to put this one down till finished. The characters will steal a place in your heart. I so am looking forward in finding out what is going to happen to them next and how they will cope.
I very much enjoyed The Shadow which is the 6th book in the Seacliff High Series. Geared to young adults I have decided that I must be young because I love this series. This volume is very intense with Ashton involved in a mystical death every so many years on May 27. Thus Ashton and her friends have a most earnest need to solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim. If you have not read this series I recommend reading all six books preferably in order. Kathi Daley has turned this series into a hit for all ages. But this book has a big surprise for the next volume.
Think 21st century Nancy Drew. Three high school friends solving mysteries may seem a little far fetched but these three, with a few others throughout six books, get the job done. The Shadow is more personal, and more paranormal, but it works. Have tissues for the end you won't see coming, that will have you anxious for the next installment.
Outstanding read ! The characters were so much fun to read. It feels like your right there with them. The storyline totally keep my interest from the start. This book has two secrets that need helping out to find out the truth. Bring out the kleenex this time around there is sadness to be found. Must read for all coziest readers.
How can these things keep happening to her. Was witness protection not enough.
While hiding out from killers she has a new life with new friends and Tucker the best dog in the world but still crazy things keep happening to her. Now she sees a murder will the police think she is involved. So much fun to be back in Cutter's Cove.
The Shadow is a wonderful story about a group of teens who have a couple of mysteries to solve. In this book you will meet Alyson, Mac and Trevor as they try to solve a present day mystery and a mystery from the past. Alyson has a past that can catch up with her. See if that happens in this book. This book is a great read for teens and adults alike. Check it out
Eli, Devon and their dad are gone having moved back to California. So the gang is now just Alyson, Mac and Trevor. They need to solve a repeating mystery that started in the 1800 hundreds, and find themselves trying to figure out who's behind a date rape scheme.
This was another winner. I love this series and this author writes wonderful characters you would like to meet and great storylines in every book. I love this teeanage series and I have read the same people in another series only now they are adults. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who loves cozy mysteries and ghosts. Diana Romano
I love all of kathi Daley's books if you like a great cozy with great characters and a great story than you should read this series or anything she writes
