Where Sleeping Gods Lie

Rate this book
Logic tells us that when we reach the end of something, we stop.Life is a game, a book; everything has an ending, but what if the end is just the beginning? My end came a long time ago and I hope you'll understand why I can begin again at that exact moment. There are reasons these things happen. I’m not entirely sure what they all are, and I can name a certain few, but that would defeat the purpose of figuring it out. Everything should begin as a clean slate and end in flames. Nothing is salvageable if you really open your eyes and look at this putrid world. I was once taught that everyone deserves a second chance, everyone is wonderful in their own way, and everyone finds happiness.I used to believe that because I had found my happiness. My sliver of sunshine on a rainy day. My cool, calm in the raging fires that spoke softly enough to quiet my malicious thoughts. But there are only so many times you can roll the dice before you keep ending up with the same numbers.

OMFG 🤯🤯🤯
I'm freaking shocked 🤯🤯
But that’s what I was aiming for when I picked this book.
I just knew it Yolanda Olson was the right author to get me out from the awful feeling of having read the same story thousand times already.
I needed something f*cked up and unpredictable.
And Fai & Kov' love is just that.
There’s something so wrong in their relationship and I understood what reading the epilogue.
THAT F*CKING EPILOGUE!!
They are just sick and I loved everything about them 🤷‍♀️
I can’t really tell you anything about the plot because it's a short book yet so complicated.
I couldn't stop reading and I can’t stop thinking about it because I wish there was more....

Definitely recommended if you are looking for a twisted af read, but please be aware there are triggers warnings.

I love dark and twisted, I love the bloody and gruesome mind fuckery and this was not that story. Im sorry, but I was totally bored and I had no clue where the fuck this was going and what the point was. In my opinion, there is way too much untold story and too much unnecessary crap (page filler) thrown in. The detailed grocery shopping? Why? What was the point? description

description

You get a tiny bit of back story on Koval in the prologue but its not enough to tell the story of his obsession, where Fai comes from, or any actual solid information about Exxie. The characters are totally one dimensional and completely underdeveloped. I also don't get the title. The sex is underwhelming and I found myself drifting off while reading it. However the one scene with Koval, Fai and Angie was pretty decent.

"“You may want to get dressed. I can still smell you,” I say to her with a smile as I walk out of the living room. I don’t mean it in a derogatory way, I would just prefer not to smell pussy before dinner is all."

The ONLY good part is the last 9% of the book. That is when everything happens. But why? Why only in the last little bit of the book? And it felt rushed! Its like the author got bored herself and just ended it.

I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high and I let myself down? This author is clearly talented and this book has a ton of fantastic reviews. So, if you are reading this review, dont take my word for it. Read it for yourself and form your own opinion.

A fabulous cover and a title that piqued my curiosity...I had to read this book. I've heard great things about Mrs Olson's work, so I wanted to see for myself!

My mind is still reeling after finishing this short read. The promise of darkness slowly crept on me as the story progressed.

Told from three points of view, Where Sleeping Gods Lie's tone drastically changed in function of the characters. I wanted to know the outcome.
Angry Kov sets the plot in motion, charming Fai seals the fate, and sweet (meek) Angie is just a casualty in this messed up dynamic.

I'm torn because I liked the idea, very much so, the mystery kept me wondering and almost bouncing with nervousness.
However, the back story of Kov deserved more development, which would have given more depth to the scenario. Even after all is said and done, I must admit I couldn't fully connect to the characters, nor could I get 100% invested in the characters' relationship.

The ending, on the other hand, had me shrinking, screaming, and smiling. It detonated, exploded, was totally what I was looking for. Twisted, depraved, gore, the ultraviolence I was expecting lied there. The epilogue, which didn't really surprised me, gave me goosebumps, The whole book then appeared in a new light.

Well written

While I went into this book not knowing what it was about, I quickly worked out it wasn't going to be a happy ending....well not exactly anyway. It was well written though

I was already intrigued by the end of the prologue of this book. The theme of "the one that got away" with Exxie and the "what ifs" that Koval had about if she had stayed really drew me into the story. There were many eloquent words within this story, which I found soothing coming from an author that would no doubt be wrecking my mind soon enough.
The more times I read through it as a Beta, the deeper I was pulled into the story. Koval and Fai will stick with me long after I am finished with this book.
The passion with which Koval longed for Exxie was very compelling. Fifteen years of yearning had done things to his mind that frightened me a bit. Koval's current obession in the flesh was Fai. He was very protective of him and any perceived slights toward him. By the end of Chapter 4, I was worried about how dark things were going to get for Angie and what she had truly gotten herself into by going home with Koval. The way she unknowingly continued to set him off made me wonder how far things would escalate. It got a bit anticlimactic at that point when Fai talked Koval down from his rage, but I was still curious if that would be the last I would see of Angie. Koval and Fai's coupling was powerful, but how they acted together still showed the potential weaknesses in their union. It was a back and forth of emotions between them and had me wondering about how far each one of them could be pushed.
The return of Angie was something that I had been curious about and I was eager to see how she continued to fit into this story. It appeared that she had seen the errors in her previous behavior, but would it be too late to undo what had been done? The fact that she took pause to remember her mother's advice about strangers when leaving with Fai was a great foreshadowing of what could go wrong. When they reached Fai's house, the pace and intensity of the story really picked up and I was on the edge of my seat about what was going to happen next. Olson did a great job of hooking me in the suspense.
When Fai brought Angie to the cabin, I was very eager to know whether or not that action would end up causing strife between him and Koval. I could see how stubborn and set in his ways Koval was, and how he may or may not want to go along with the game, which could be bad for Fai in the end. I loved that I was constantly on pins and needles in anticipation.
Koval and Fai's protectiveness over one another and the jealousy they feel when interacting with the people at the stores really showed their feelings for one another and even gave a glimpse of the possible depths they are willing to go to for one another. When Koval confided to Angie why he was interested in her in the first place, coupled with Fai's comment to her about cooking a meal as if it is her last day on earth, were very ominious events in the story at that time. Angie's fascination while watching Fai and Koval together felt so forbidden and yet again made me wonder what would happen if they noticed her. Would they be angry? Would it ruin the mood for them? Then when she began creeping closer to them, my curiousity intensified. When she was finally found out and Fai touched her, I knew the fireworks were about to begin. Things escalated quickly and then when everything was finished, it felt so empty. I wondered how Angie would respond to that. The discussion over dinner intrigued me even more.
Even when the bad things finally did start happening, I remained on edge until it was over. Olson's writing always has the ability to throw me for a loop at any time. The ending of WSGL was wow-worthy. It wasn't what I was expecting, but perfection nonetheless. When I got to the end, the title of this book became even more stunning to me as well.
WSGL had characters that made me care, suspense that kept me constantly on edge, and a darkness that eventually consumed it all. Kudos on another fantastic book.

For Yolanda's first M/M, M/F/M book, this is absolutely what you would expect! A man, still looking for the girl he fell for so many years ago. Two men who love each other. A woman who gets caught up in the middle of them. Its absolutely riviting, and in true Yolanda fashion, it'll leave you questioning what you read and needing to read it again. Amazing!

Let me just tell you, I love this story and it is now in my top 5 favorites from this author. The connection, the chemistry, the just overall raw emotions of Koval, Fai and Exxie will make you not want to put the book down. There is a scene with Fai in sweatpants and heeey. ;)

There are twist and turns in true Yolanda fashion.

The book kept me guessing, gave me feels, made me say, "Oooh, hey, Aww,No way, LOL, oh dear, ouch and WOW!"

5 stars for me.

Yolanda is a masterful writer! She knows just how to draw you in with each bread crumb that she leave to lead you to an ending that you won't see coming. I became more and more engrossed with ever turn of the page and by the end I was left in shock ( the jaw dropping kind of shock) when I was finally able to see how all the pieces fell into place. You can't help but love Fai and Koval. Then there's this other character, who shall remain nameless, that you will dispise like no other.

From beginning to end I had a horde of emotions that was just too hard to keep track of. From hate to empothy and so much more. Trust me you want to read this for yourself to see exactly what I mean. It'll have you in such a tail spin that you won't know what to do with yourself by the end. This is by far my most favorite book(#1)! I loved it so much that I read it twice pretty much back to back! I so very highly recommend reading Where Sleeping Gods Lie!!!

Mind blown. This is a hard review for me. Nothing in mu review will give this book justice. I'm still trying to wrap my brain on this story. It's dark and has twists, but it's much deeper than that. This is a milder book then what I'm used to from this author. Yolanda pulls you into the couples lives and makes you feel like you are actually there with them. I don't know how this woman can write so many books so fast and every single word she writes just brillant.

Koval was shattered at a young age because of a girl named Exxie. Now at the age of 25 he is with his lover fai. I'm not going to lie the steamy scene between these two was kinda hot. Koval brings home a girl named Angie. She reminds Koval of Exxie. Will Angie survive?

I received this arc for my honest review.
Thank you so much for letting me be part of this.

Being a long-time fan of Yolanda Olson, I knew that I was in for one hell of a ride when I flipped the very first page. But I must admit, I never expected so many emotions to replace one another as I dived further into the story. It was dark and twisted, hot and sensual, morally degrading and beautifully psychotic… and I couldn’t get enough of it! The boys, Kov and Fai, were my favorite “serial killer types”: angelic faces that hide the darkest secrets. Big kudos to Yolanda for building up such tension which created an absolutely explosive finale! Loved every bit of this! All fans of dark fiction must read this!

This book is DARK! Proceed with caution! It took me a while to adjust to the writing style and I must admit, I sometimes found myself a bit confused! BUT, I very quickly became hooked and read it in one sitting! Despite the twisted-ness, knowing it was going somewhere nasty, I couldn't put it down... I just had to keep watching it unfold until the full horror whacked me in the face!

I won this book in a competition and I'm so glad I did as right from the start it captivated me in it's unusual and thrilling story. I read it in one sitting as I found it totally addictive. It's difficult to be too specific about the actual storyline as I don't want to risk any spoilers. I found it extremely well written and the four main characters fascinating. Koval and Fai, the total opposites, dark as dungeon complex men and the poor fly caught in their intricate web, Angie. The enigmatic mysterious character of Exxie from the the start caught my attention and Yolanda carefully kept the suspense and tension going right through to the end, Wow, it took my breath away.
I certainly will be reading more from this talented author and highly recommend this book if you are a fan of well written dark and at times depraved stories.

I’ve been trying to read Yolanda Olson’s back list and I’ve come to the conclusion that she will not give her readers an HEA. I mean, maybe for a specific character or two. But not exactly an HEA that I would root for. And that’s why I keep reading her books because she keeps giving me complete and utter mindfucks at the last page and her books.

This is the story about two male lovers. One has an utter fascination with females who look like a childhood friend that he lost connection with many years ago. But he continues to fuck and chuck them.
This is a short story so it’s kind of hard to explain the plot of the book without giving away the characters intentions. But this is a Yolanda Olson book so... she gets crazy.
That ending though. 😭 Complete twist I didn’t see coming at all.

I'd wanted to read a Yolanda Olson book for the longest time but never got around to it. I knew from reading reviews that I would love her novels, and I wasn't wrong. I absolutely LOVED this book! I can honestly tell you that as soon as I was finished reading the very last page, I turned around and started from the prologue all over again! This novel was a complete mindfuck, and I didn't understand how truly horrifying it was until the epilogue. I was floored!!! If this book is any indication of what I can expect from her novels, then sign me up. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for me!

In true Yolanda style this story takes you on a ride with twists and turns that you don't see coming.

Koval and Fai have it all worked out. Their relationship works, even when personal desires creep back in. Nothing seems out of bounds but just remember that nothing is as it seems and when others try to squeeze into the status quo they should not over step the line as there are consequences to be paid and they must be paid in full.

Thanks Yolanda for another 5 star read. You are my go to Author for quick dark, dark reads.

Yolanda did it again (I'm not surprised at all), another page turning, bloody, gory look into the demented mind of her characters. One is looking for what he lost, the other, trying to keep what is his. Together, they are an unstoppable force. Both trying to please each other, while keeping their secrets private.

Disturbing

Koval and Fai are lovers, but neither is totally confident of the other's love. Kov especially, likes to introduce a third person into the mix on occasion, but for those who do get to join them, it is a singular experience. Olson has created a well-written and disturbing tale of insecurity and dysfunction. I devoured it.

I needed 24 hours to absorb this book before coming back to review. This story rolls along but you know something crazy will happen before too long. Lulled into complacency I was, then bang. My heart was racing, even though I wasn't a fan of the victim...well I don't want to give it away but ewwww. Shall we discuss the ending? I didn't see that coming, or how or what...really WHAT?
Yolanda does it again, leaves me with a head spin. This book is MM so if you don't like that read it anyway for the horror. I think this one might be one of my faves from Yolanda.

This one didn’t do it for me. So many unnecessary scenes, not a clear idea as to why exactly Koval is obsessed with Exxie, how Fai and Koval started their relationship and how they started to do what they do, where did Fai come from… I don’t know, just not my cup of tea

Once again the Queen did not disappoint. I will not do spoilers since this book has not yet released. I will say, that when you step into this authors world you leave a little dazed. The ending once again had me saying I did not see that coming. This story grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let you go. I could not put it down and finished it in one night. Yes it is that good. If you love all that is creepy and just a little twisted then you need to explore this authors world. You will always walk away satisfied.
