Rattlesnake Wells, Wyoming is a slightly different kind of western series. We get to follow a man working as marshall in a rather wild town and he has almost a regular family life. He is also a very good detective and handy with a gun, but he haws a dark past that not many know anything about. In Frontier of Violence by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone we get the second book in the series. It mostly revolves around a new saloon being opened and a shooting competition with a pair of expensive revolvers as a price. On the other hand we have the usual trouble with good and bad guys, fisticuffs and shootouts and even some romance. In other words a good western.
I really liked this western! Sharp characters, great character chemistry in all the right places, a warm and caring family relationship, a humble but tough lawman, yucky and disgusting outlaws, and a Sheriff that won't stop at nothing to bring them to justice!
An new and enterprising saloon owner stages a shooting contest with a matched pair of gold-plated revolvers as first prize drawing all kind of scoundrels to compete for them . These aren’t just any old gold-plated fancy guns with their actual worth of a couple thousand dollars, but there is something far more secretly more valuable about them that only a few people know. Naturally, the ones that do aren't going to play by the rules of the contest. Despite them being heavily guarded by a former Pinkerton agent, after the contest the guns are gone, and two innocent hostages have been taken. A chase is on into the vast Wyoming wilderness—where a terrifying dark secret will be exposed, and much blood will be spilled.
Listened to this on Audiobook with Rodney J. Turner narrating. I love the way he tells a tale! I'd listen to anything he would narrate.
Johnstone's Frontier of Violence (Rattlesnake Wells, Wyoming #2) was so enjoyable, it made my favorites shelf! 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This one is another new series, that's a Walmart exclusive and only available from them for the first year of print.
Two of my favorite niches in the Western genre are US Marshall/Texas Ranger/Sheriff/Town Marshall's themed or range Cowboy themed ones.
Frontier of Violence, brings the return of Sundown Bob Hatfield, the honest hardworking Marshall of of the West's most dangerous boomtown Rattlesnake Wells, Wyoming. While I thought it was predictable at times, still thought it was a good read, it takes off where the first book ends and in the shadow of the Prophecy Mountains.
As always with a Johnstone book it was awesome, I hope there will be more books on Bob and Consuela, I would love to know he finally married that girl. I was also saddened to have Quirt killed off. He would have made a awesome U S Marshall. As always thank you for a awesome read.
Loved this new book. Johnstone's niece does an excellent job carrying on the legacy for her uncle. Of course, he trained her as a researcher and editor, so she knows his style.
Frontier of Violence is the second installment from the Rattlesnake Wells, Wyoming series. I loved this book. I am now obsessed with reading everything that this author has written. I give this one a well deserved 5 plus stars.
What a great story, this author is outstanding. He puts a story together that is easy to follow and is very fascinating keeps you glued to the book. Please follow up with more of this caliber of read, thank you!
Another great adventure by an author that I lovingly compare to Louis Lamour. He captures details that most authors would leave out and truly transports you to this time period.
Another great Johnstone book! We can always count on a great adventure from a Johnstone story. Anyone who loves westerns should be reading these. Any time I'm asked to recommend a book, the Johnstone's are on the list. They NEVER disappoint.
