The Christian world has been rocked by the number of prominent leaders, in both church and parachurch organizations, who have been compromised by moral, ethical, and theological failures. This pace-setting volume addresses this alarming problem and offers Christian leaders valuable guidance in dealing with the inherent risks of their work. Using biblical and current examples, the authors describe the characteristics of five types of leaders and the problems that are most likely to develop if their particular dysfunctions develop unrestrained. McIntosh and Rima offer a series of steps for leaders to consider so they can take control of their dark side and learn to harness its creative powers. This edition includes a new introduction, updated information throughout, a self-assessment tool, and other additional material. Includes endorsements from John Maxwell, Leighton Ford, Leith Anderson, and Rob Angel.
This book shows 5 types of “dark sides” when it comes to leadership and really kinda makes you feel like someone crawled inside your skin at points lol. I really enjoyed how it showed Biblical examples of each side and situations I could relate to. It was a good reminder that with every strength comes a blind spot that, if ignored, can overrun your life.
A book that wasn’t exactly an enjoyable read in the moment; however, it was one of the most important books I’ve read when it comes to my spiritual pilgrimage. Being aware of the different dark side tendencies of my leadership is important so I stay on the straight and narrow. I’m eager to continue to grow in leadership opportunities and using this book as a resource to grow in leadership.
Challenges you to look at your past. Not to blame anyone, but to see how your past is playing a role into how you lead. It brings to light the deeper issues that you may have when leading so that we can be aware of it and fight against it.
