Simple. Neat. Orderly.

A place for everything, and everything in its place.

Karmen Handel’s life growing up had been anything but quiet and simple. A deadbeat father, a mother who never wanted her, and a grandmother who could care less were the perfect recipe to ensure Karmen built a wall around herself and never let anyone in. When her past comes back to haunt her, Karmen has no one to help her. Until Nickel.

Complicated. Dirty. Restless.

Live to ride. Ride to live.

Nickel Cunningham lives free with the brothers he calls family and has never craved anything more until he met Karmen. The shy, quiet nurse who cares for his grandma caught his eye months ago, and he hasn’t been able to get her off his mind since. Nickel knows what he wants, but he’s never had to fight for it before. Until Karmen.

Loved, loved, loved Nickel! He was a great hero. He did everything right in my book.

Karmen was a pain in the ass. At first, I thought she was the type of heroine I love...sweet, shy and awkward. And while she was all those things, after a while her self-deprecation and doubts just grated on my nerves. She was constantly trying to push Nickel away because she couldn't see what he saw in her. I was ready to take her and shake the shit out of her. Everything he did showed her he was all about her. I mean he tried to pursue her for a freaking year. It was just annoying after a while.

Plus, I felt the whole "conflict" was resolved way too easy. I would have liked to see that played out a little bit longer. And, I would have liked to see her work on her relationship with her father. Yeah I know...he was in prison and why he was there, and while that is horrible and where he deserved to be, I felt like he was still a good dad for the most part...at least the way she talked about him at first that's the vibe I got.

I do appreciate there was zero OW drama. There was an opportunity for it but it played out so there was no conflict and I liked that. I'm definitely looking forward to Nikki and Pipe next.

attention.

There are a few solid sex scenes that come relatively fast but were hot.

The bad….there was a lot for me.  I didn’t fall in love with Nickel’s alpha side.  It totally rubbed me the wrong way. One minute, he is a sweet charming guy and then he is yelling at some guy because he tripped on their blanket while they were making out.  He ran so hot and cold and I had almost zero context on why. There was little to no backstory on him and once he started dating Karmen, I don’t think  his grandmother he went to see every week was mentioned again.

Everything moved so fast.  There was the date, the sex, more sex and then bam theywere together and I’m gonna put a baby in your belly.  There was a ridiculously short time between any of that to go from 0 to baby. If Nickel had some deep need for family I didn’t get enough backstory to feel it.

There wasn’t much tension in the story either.  I didn’t get why Karmen cut her dad out so completely.  On page 1 she knows how messed up he is with the drinking and such but she still loved him.  But as an adult she has no contact with him and is hiding from him. He did a horrible thing over a decade ago and she won’t even talk to him.  I didn’t get why she pushed him so completely out of her life. Or why it was such a big deal when he called her. Her reactions seemed so extreme.

Nickel had some good moments but the characters really needed to be fleshed out a little better and maybe have longer than a month together before the baby talk happened.  To be honest, I rarely like baby talk in one of my one handed reads.

Narration:
This was a solid audio performance, not outstanding but not bad. I always like it when the male and female PoVs have different narrators.  Paul Brion captured the timbre I expected Nickel’s voice to have.

Audiobook review. Couldn’t really connect with the characters. Not my kind of alpha with some very exaggerated reactions to simple situations. Not my kind of heroine with some annoying characteristics.

The plot was ok but it didn’t really move me. I was more interested in the secondary characters.

Narrators did well. Good tone and fluctuations.

Badass biker hero meets his dream girl and pursues her for a year. I didn’t notice any mention of ow so I would assume Hero was celibate since he met the heroine. I liked the writing and the story better than Loving Lo (Winter Travers’ more popular MC book).

Nickel was the first book in Winter Travers Fallen Lord’s MC series.

Nickel was a patched member of the Fallen Lord’s MC. He was close to his grandmother who was in a nursing home. He lusted after his grandmother’s nurse, Karmen, for a year until she finally agreed to go out with him. Nickel was a typical gorgeous, protective and confident alpha that wasn’t afraid to ask for or take what he wanted.

Karmen had very few people in life who she counted on. Her mom left her young, her dad was in prison and her grandmother was the wicked witch who raised her. Trusting was not easy for her. She was quiet to the outside world but humorous and feisty to her inner circle, which really only consisted of her childhood bestie.

Travers built the foundation of the storyline developing the relationship between Karmen and Nickel. Additionally, she had a suspenseful plot that involved Karmen’s father that ultimately impacted Karmen. Lastly, Travers weaved an MC saga into the mix, which will carry over as a secondary and overlapping story throughout the series. The three plots ran independently but ultimately meshed into one.

Nickel was well written and entertaining. It did, however, include several editing errors. I enjoyed the storyline thoroughly but found I was desiring slightly more depth at times. The platform for the series was set, so hopefully we’ll see more explanation as the series progresses.

Travers included a strong set of supporting characters that will continue throughout the series. They added dimension, entertainment and a promise for a solid and enjoyable series. Next up are Pipe and Nikki where Travers has already eluded to an explosive and emotional storyline.

⭐⭐

The story is a dime a dozen. I read it about two weeks ago and remember almost nothing about it. Karmen is a nurse in an elderly home and Nickel has been visiting his grandmother every week for over a year. She knows he is interested in her, but holds back. Suddenly, something happens that makes her turn to Nickel anyway, but I have absolutely no idea what it was. (And I didn't write it down, silly; I know).
You know the rest of the story without me telling you: forced proximity, she falls for him too but tries to keep it casual, he saves her and they end up together.
Tropes:
- He Falls First
- forced proximity
- Age Gap: h is 25; H has been a member of the club for 15 years, which makes him about 33 (18+15=33).

Normally I would give a story like this 3 stars (unlike many contemporary writers, this author knows her grammar reasonably well), but the fact that 2 weeks (and 3 books) later I can't even remember the main plot illustrates how lightweight and flimsy the story was. Therefore, my final rating is limited to 2 stars.

Title: Nickel
Author: Winter Travers
Genre: Contemporary Romance
**RECEIVED ARC FOR HONEST REVIEW**

Let me preface my review by saying I have loved Winter Travers works since the first time I began reading her books. Nickel is no different. I did enjoy it. But...

Okay, the book really was in need of better proofing. I know we all make grammatical mistakes. We misspell words, leave words out, add an extra word, and so on. When I have to constantly stop and re-read a sentence to see if the sentence is how the character talks or it is an overlooked mistake then I take issue. Especially when this is happening on average every few pages. This really keeps me from enjoying the story.

Slight spoiler here but why does Karmen truly flip when she gets a call from her dad? I get she is distancing herself from him since he is in prison but it isn't like he is part of a gang or the mob. I mean she flips and acts so scared it's like he put a hit out on her.

There is trust between Karmen and Nickel and that is great. You don't see her worried about other women and vice versa. They want to make a life together.

Really there isn't much in the way of character development. We don't learn much about Nickel and his desires to lead come out but in the next breath disappear because he doesn't understand everything his Prez has going on. Everything about Nickel is Karmen. Karmen is supposed to be "innocent" but comes across as annoyingly immature. Examples: risking her life repeatedly by not listening to those trying to protect her.

I look forward to Pipe and Nikki next. I hope Cora has her own story. Cora is an enigma currently. I really believe Winter has the talent to write the stories these characters are begging to tell. She is talented. This was a decent start to a new series and I know it will grow just as her ability grows. Until next time.

As a huge lover of MC romances Nickel ticked all the boxes for me. Nickel is the hot alpha biker who has been chasing Karmen, the quiet, reserved and shy nurse from the nursing home his grandmother is at for the past year. Once Karmen takes the biggest leap of her life and gives this outlaw a chance her life takes a whole different turn. This first book in this series will have you falling in love with not only Karmen and Nickel but all the men of the Fallen Lords MC. Their story has just the right amount of grit and suspense, some seriously hilarious moments that may or may not contain a pirate and let's not forget some seriously hot scenes with a very bossy biker. If you like your bikers sexy, bossy, protective and so loving when it comes to their women then Nickel should be on your must read list. I received and advanced readers copy of this and have volunteered to leave an honest review. Bring on the next book in this series as I am totally hooked.

DNF @74%

Did not finish because I was bored and no longer cared what happened. Reasons:
- storyline at 74% made no sense to build and resolve in so short a time
- female lead in danger but kept complaining about being kept safe. I despise when authors write this. Ok then just go get killed. Makes no sense.
- male lead makes promises to keep female lead safe and it never happens. The female lead always gets hurt. Tired storyline.
- every other scene is sex. It gets old especially since it’s the same moves on repeat. The entire relationship is built on physical and sexual attraction.
- author fails to create any meaningful connection with any of the characters.

****I was given an ARC for an honest review****
Those of us that have read way back to the Devils Knights series fell in love with Winter then. Her next M.C. series is the Fallen Lords M.C. What I really am hopeful of with this series is the future characters in the next books to this first one about Nickel, Sergeant-at-Arms. Nickel has ambition and ideas to make come true, except he's missing a piece. Sadly this tough biker man needs some down time with his crazy never ending schedule. With his M.C. changing he's left feeling unsatisfied.

Karmen, grew up without what most have and most definitely deserve; a mom and dad in a childhood home with the best grandparents. No this poor girl didn't have those luxuries in life. Growing up feeling insignificant and undesirable, this beautiful woman doesn't see her own beautiful soul. That is until the hot biker chases after her, and let me just say the woman made him chase her. When Nickel finally has his "this is it" moment, he sweet talks Karmen into giving in. That's also when Karmen's past comes back to face her. It's also how Nickel proves he'll be the man to stand by her side.

Possible Spoilers Ahead:
While there were a few moments that I really enjoyed, (e.i. Bedtime story was the cutest/best Ever!, also the pirate was pretty fun) I felt some points were left out or more details that would have added to the story. Big question on my mind was why was the grandmother never mentioned or in a scene? That would have been so cute to see what she was like. Also, strange Nickel went every week and then after Karmen, he never returns? More detail about her father would have cleared up some questions. She sees her father as a teen and is in tears because she loves and misses him, but then decides never to see him again because of broken promises she stated later? They seemed to be happy or functional before he "left". I would have loved to have more or longer group scenes with Pipe and Boink. Boink seemed to be hilarious. Pipe and Nikki seem to have hooked up, but it's all pretty secretive at what when or who on this story. I guess what I'm saying here is more descriptive or longer scenes with the other characters would have pulled me more into their world. I wanted to see and be more a part of it.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Man oh man!!

I don't read nearly enough MCs and this one has me wanting to go an on MC binge. I think I just might do that.

Karmen didn't have much in life, much less a life she was happy with. Once she was old enough to be on her own, she did what she had to do to make sure she was in control. She made sure she had stability and lived her life how she wanted. She had a job she loved and a best friend she couldn't live without. And a man, is never something she wanted or would even let near her heart. But a certain relentless biker wouldn't give up the chase or the chance to knock down the walls to her heart.

Nickel was determined to make Karmen his. Little did he know how much work it would be. She put him through the ringer, but when she finally let him in, there was no going back. He had one foot in and wasn't backing down. Until it all goes to hell and she needs protecting. He just got her and fears he will lose her. He did everything to make her his, now he will do everything to keep her his and safe.

Nickel and Karmen are so perfect for each other. They fit so good. I loved their story.

Now on the other hand...I need book 2. I need to read Pipe's story. I need to see what is going on. Especially with the way this one ended. I hope it has all his past in it. Because I can't tell he has one hell of a story to tell.

Love everything that Winter Travers writs she just creates stories that will be a page turner and draw you right in and not stop till you are completely done and wanting more . Karmen is a great heroine she's shy but once she lets her freak flag fly she becomes hilarious and I love her relationship with her bestie its perfect cant wait to read her story . Nickel is awesome adored everything about his gruffly/ alpha self . They were made for one another they just fit and make each other see themselves better . The sex scenes of course are really steamy and tasteful . Can't wait to see whats next for this author she's just amazing .

Winter Travers creates such fantastic alpha men!!
Nickel is no exception !! Nickel is the Sergeant at Arms for the Fallen Lords MC. He knows what he wants and he goes after it!! He wants Karmen.
Karmen is a shy, quiet and lonely girl. Not having many friends due to trust issues. Karmen is also Nickel's grandmothers nurse.
After a year Nickel loses his patience and finally asks Karmen out.
Karmen does not give in easily. The whole trust thing comes into affect. Karmen has issues and self doubt that she is dealing with.
Nickel helps Karmen through all her self doubt and issues. He is there for her every step of the way!! He is quite possessive and protective of Karmen. These qualities help when Karmen's past comes back to haunt her. Nickel and his MC brothers do everything in their power to help Karmen!!
Such an amazing book by such an amazing author!!
Full of love, laughter, suspense and yummy deliciousness!!
Would highly recommend!!!

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

This author's books I have loved from the first book and every book since then. This one was no different.

Karmen Handel had a crappy childhood. Her mother left and her father is in prison. She then had to go live with her grandmother who was not the most affectionate person. So she grew up thinking she wasn't anything special and kept everyone out. The only person she let in was her best friend Nikki.
Now she works at an old age home and her life is quiet just the way she likes it.
Except for the Hot sexy Biker that comes to visit his grandmother. For a year now he has been visiting and has been trying to get her to spend time with him.

Nickel has been attracted to the shy nurse looking after his grandmother for a year now, and he was tired of waiting and he is just going to take his chance. But his biggest obstacle is getting her to agree and then getting her not to avoid him.

This was a great story, I loved everything about it. I Loved Nickel. He was sexy, charming, loyal, and he never got tired of Karmen and her issues. I liked Karmen too she was sweet shy but she was also sassy and once she got comfortable with Nickel she stood up for herself. One thing I didn't like was her freaking out all the time about why he was with her and why he wanted her. But the rest of of the story was a good start to a new series.

Can't wait to read Pipe and Nikki's story. And I hope that Cora get's her own story too. Can't wait for the next one.

Nickel is a member of the Fallen Lords MC , they are a bunch of lady loving ,licker drinking ,Rowdy SOB's and cross them or their families and they're ruthless , but all Nickel seems to want is one chance in the sack with the nurse taking care of his loved one.
Once he gets to know Karmen and realizes she's in imminent danger will he stick around for just her safety or a chance at real love ?
I loved the first book in the Fallen Lord's series . Nickel was the total Biker package of major hotness and I enjoyed him paired with Karmen who spends her life trying to nurse people back to health , even though she needs some TLC of her own ,after the life she's had to live growing up.
I kid you not steam began to smoke out of my e-reader during some scenes between these two.
I really liked the other members of the MC , they were hilarious and they all had their own personalities and I am looking forward to reading all of their stories .

This is my first Winter travers book yes i'm a newbie but Nickels book make me question what have I been thinking that I have never read a Winter Travers book before.
Nickel is everything any women could want truth be told I want him. He's protective, confident, and down right sinful looking. He's a member of the Fallen Lord MC's and is use to getting what he wants, and right now all he wants is his Grandmothers nurse Karmen.
Karmen has a hard time trusting people ever since her mother left her, her father went to prison, and she had to go live with Grandma witch alot
This story is so well written and entertaning I couldn't put it down til it was over and now I want to go back and reread it again.

I come across this author for the first time and wanted to dive in to see how this one goes. Reading more MC novels lately these characters caught my eye. I wanted to see what Nickel was all about with her on my radar also. Karmen is a bit different than most you read in this role but she does have his eye. I find though he is the one that sinks into me getting me in deep to his story. His heart is huge but he is a man that is all that too. He does have to be persistent with curiosity getting the best of you on how this will turn out. Since it dealt heavy on relationship it wraps up before you know it just barely letting you go.

Pretty good. This is the first book of the series Fallen Lords MC. This is Nickel's and Karmen's story.

Karmen is a nurse at the local nursing home and she is one of the ones who take care of Nickel's grandmother, even if we never hear about her again. Tsk tsk... Nickel has never had to work to get a woman and it's been a year since he has been trying to get the little shy nurse to go out with him. Karmen is shy and quiet and stays home most of the time with her BFF watching crappy TV.

Karmen had a crappy childhood and doesn't trust much. Her Mom left when she was a baby and Dad is locked up. This hot and sexy biker wants her but she can't understand why....he better get to explaining....

This is my first book I have read by Winter Travers and it wont be my last. Karmen is a nurse and meets Nickel at the Nursing Home where she works. He has been visiting his grandmother for a year now and trys to get Karmen to see him. But Karmen is shy and reserved. Finally, Nickel asks her to join him at an event and she says yes. Nickel is a sweet, alpha male who helps Karmen out of her shell and through his love gives her the courage to open up and be herself. I love the funny banter between Karmen and Nickel. Looking forward to the next book in this new series.

Not my favorite book by Travers. There isn't too much haracter development for the hero (Nickel) of the story. We need more backstory and why he does the things he does in this story to connect to him. I also found that there were just too much advanced in this arc. As in there were so many grammar and spelling mishaps that I honestly had to stop to figure out some things. Overall I did enjoy the plot and the heroine. And I also look forward to reading more about these MC.

I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
