Wanting Forever

Rate this book

All Effone Pacifica has ever wanted is to be the captain of an airship for the ASPECT company. Now that she's successfully earned her own ship, she'll allow nothing to jeopardize her position or her crew. Not even the allure of Trace Fortis' ocean-blue eyes and appreciation for dictionaries could threaten to break through her defenses.

But Trace has his own demanding job as a carrier captain, and a hard past that makes romance impossible. When Effone is called away on a critical mission, she knows she has to let him go.

Months later, reconnecting on assignment in the most remote, rugged land on earth, Trace and Effone have to face not only their feelings for each other but acts of sabotage from a mysterious enemy. Can they—not to mention their ships and crews—survive the attacks to finish where they left off?

I really enjoyed Wanting Forever because it put a new spin on my favorite type of story. This is totally a romance, but the setting is in a near future where humanity is just starting to get back on its feet after some horrible global disaster. Life is tough, food is scarce, and the world is really dangerous in the “wilds” outside the few cities. How do people get around? There’s no more oil, so our heroine is an airship captain! How cool is that? Effone (rhymes with Stephanie) is a smart, thoughtful young lady who knows just what she wants. And that’s being in her ship in the sky. Then she’s thrown into working with Trace (captain of a regular, water-going ship) on a mission, and sparks begin to fly. I loved their exchanges and how their romance developed. It’s a nice slow burn, and it works well with the mystery part of the story—who’s working to sabotage society’s efforts to find new places to live? If you love science fiction and romance, you need to try this book. It’s often funny, with low-key but real chemistry between the characters, and puts you in a unique futuristic setting. Long live the Chronocon!

The humor and wit made this book for me! I dug the funny, often laugh-out-loud lines between the captains and their crew. Also, since I haven't read much sci-fi romance, I enjoyed the unique futuristic setting here; it was relatable, but maybe me curious to read more about how this society was different than ours. I'm looking forward to more sweet and funny reads from Jennifer Sable.
