More of a epic farm poem than even a novella, it is a sweet story of people -- mostly women -- tending an old family farm. The descriptions of haying and all that can go right and wrong are poignant.
Full disclosure, the author is a friend of mine, and I have helped her haying; so my familiarity with the people and places she describes put this story closer to me. But I still recommend it. It was a lovely morning read over coffee while snow fluttered, and yet hay and haying was always on my mind.
3.5 actually. A paean by Rebecca to the rhythms of haying season at Broadbrook Mountain Farm, and to Holly. Transported me to that place, and made me glad that Tico and his family have returned there, at least for now. The fourth generation to love this small Vermont farm.
