Professional baseball player Ethan Remington—Remy to his friends—falls for Dr. Jillian Carter at first sight, but Jillian does things in her own time. It takes her a bit longer to realize this is a man worth hanging onto. And she does…for ten years, through the births of their daughters, through Ethan's career-ending accident, and through marriage counseling to deal with problems he isn't aware they have. A new job, though, sends Jillian on her way to another town, and when Ethan doesn’t follow, she lets the pain overcome the love she’s never forgotten. Ethan convinces Jillian to come home for a weekend where they face all their hurt, all their memories and a past that will either draw them back together or tear them apart for good.

I wanted to see if this author still had the touch to reach out and fill the emotions as I read. In this one she goes to it at a different approach then most contemporary novels. She will take you on a emotional journey that will awake your senses as the two in here Remy and Jillian rediscover exactly what love gave to them. The fire will need to be fanned again but love can overcome many things even when others have forgotten. Many things are displayed in this with us reaping it all while filling the emotional tank. I do so like when a author has the ability to take you on the journey with the characters to the point that they are no longer just characters but you too became part of the world and road. By the time you are finished you are so happy with the destination the two have taken you too.

Three Things by Melissa Shirley
5 Star Review by Jodi Bird for Mixed Emotions Book Blog

It not often that I don’t know what to say about a book. And it’s not often that I write a review with tears in my eyes. But this book...this beautifully heart-wrenching book has made me do that. There are points in time when you read a book and it touches you so deeply and makes you have an ah ha moment. This book did that for me. This book has come to me at a time when I need a reminder that while life gets in the way, it should never get in the way of the person you love the most. With that said, I’m getting ready to write the most honest review of my life with this one.

Ethan and Lillian Remington have come to a point in their relationship that they either need to walk away from everything they have known and move on away from each other or decide they are going to fight. Fight for their love, their relationship, their family. If they aren’t going to fight, then it’s time to walk away completely. They have a week to figure out what they are going to do. This is their story of that week.

I’m not going to tell you anymore. I want you to read this story. Then I want you to come back and tell me...tell me this book didn’t have some impact on you or your current relationship. For me, this book did just that. I won’t go into details, but, this book was meant for me to read today. I needed this story today. This book is beautifully written. I’ve never had the honor to read anything my Ms. Shirley, but she has a new fan. I can’t thank her enough for this amazing book. I hope you will all pick it up.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it

It's a lovely touching story about Remy and Jillian who have drifted apart and are looking set to divorce but Remy has other ideas

Well written, dual POV and memories of years gone by a lovely read

Three Things is very well written and grabbed my interest pretty quickly. Unfortunately, it started to lose me about halfway through. There was just too much back and forth from both Ethan and Jillian. Both would make a decision and decide that they wanted the marriage to work and then neither would actually say it. These are grown adults with 10 years of marriage and three children behind them, both seem to be strong individuals, and they don't have any problem with saying what they want in bed, yet neither of them can just say what they really want from the relationship. It reached a point that both of them came across as selfish - I want this, but I'm not going to compromise on that. The whole I want it work one minute and I'm leaving the next got to be a bit tedious and left me feeling like the story was dragging. I did enjoy the flashbacks and the story ended well, which redeemed it somewhat. I do like the author's writing style and would read other books by her.
