Some urban legends hold a truth more horrifying than any story…
After her life in Gaslight City went up in flames, Peri Jean Mace starts over in a new city — as a witch-for-hire.
But when Peri Jean’s new job pits her against a nasty spirit straight out of an urban legend, she accidentally opens the door for a ruthless evil to walk among the living. All it needs is the life force of a gifted child… and it has its sights set on Peri Jean’s young cousin.
Now Peri Jean must risk her life to save a little girl and send this monster back where he belongs. But to win, she will have to crawl through a hell that will change her forever.
Can Peri Jean risk herself to save the day? Or are some lines too great to be crossed?
Crossroads is the seventh book in the Peri Jean Mace Ghost Thriller series. If you like your urban fantasy served up spooky and smothered in ghosts, magic, and a foul-mouthed heroine who never backs down, you’ll love this series.
Catie Rhodes is the author of the Peri Jean Mace Ghost Thrillers.
She was born and raised behind the pine curtain in East Texas. Her favorite memories of childhood are sitting around listening to her family tell lies.
Some of the tales were spooky. Some had grim endings. Some were sidesplittingly funny. The stories all had one thing in common: each had an element of the mysterious or the unexplained.
Those weird stories molded Catie into a purveyor of her own brand of lies and legends. One day, she found the courage to start writing down her stories. It changed her life forever.
Catie Rhodes lives steps from the Sam Houston National Forest with her long-suffering husband and her armpit terrorist of a little dog.
I really love the fact that this series constantly switches locations. The change of scenery to a Trailer Park may not be the most exotic idea as a setting for a book, but it packs one hell of a punch when combined with the gritty balls out Southern Supernatural horrors in store this time. Peri Jean just can't catch a break. She meets up at long last with her extended family from the exploits in 'The Peckerwood Coat Of Arms', and lands straight into a hornets nest of troubles. Her powers may be growing, but there is something holding back her potential and this is exploited fully by a seriously powerful entity, intent on taking every last bit of energy that she has. As usual, the new characters are fascinating, strong and memorable. The humour has its laugh out loud moments again and the story is very involved and more Magickal than the previous instalments so far, detailing ritual workings and teachings that make for a great story. I really can't believe that I'm still enjoying this series so much 8 books in (including the novella), but I am well and truly hooked. Read one of these books and you will be too!
Trouble seems to seek out Peri Jean, but she apparently comes by it honestly. Maybe if you come from a long line of powerful witches dark things seek you out. Peri Jean certainly gets to experience some dark things when she meets up with her estranged family after leaving Gaslight City. In this case, it takes the form of a murderous spirit with ties to Peri Jean's family who is determined to use Peri Jean and her family to resurrect himself unless Peri Jean can figure out a way to tap into her inheritance and stop him. Peri Jean makes some important steps toward learning who she is and where she comes from. Mysti and Reed prove themselves as true friends and allies. Wade is still an idiot but at least he comes to Peri Jean's aid when she really needs him. Peri Jean is left with an opportunity to take a new road in her life, if she can leave the past behind.
The Peri Jean Mace books are always a thrill to read. I enjoy following the stories about her life and family and the many heart-pounding adventures she gets into. It's a ride that is crazy and suspenseful, and I always have to hurry through the book to see what happens. The spiritual world is so real in this book, and you can just feel all of the evil and good competing throughout the events within. The scary Coachman kidnaps a young child of Peri Jean's family, and she will do anything to get her back. I highly recommend this book, and encourage you to read the previous books in the series to have even more insight into Peri Jean Mace and where she is today. You won't be able to put this one down.
“Crossroads”, seventh in the 'Peri Jean Mace' series, sees her out of Gaslight City and getting to know her extended (criminal) family. Someone, or some thing, has taken Peri Jean's young cousing, Zora. It soon becomes clear that it is an evil and potentially imortal spirit, the Coachman, which feeds on the life energy of others to survive. But first he intends to drain Peri of her magic. That magic force, which has been increasing dramatically since the start of the series, is proven to be inadequate as her traumatic childhood and a mistakenly placed binding spell prevent her from accessing the bulk of it. To beat him she'll have to make a deal with the devil. It's a solid entry in the series and opens up several avenues for Peri in the books to come. 3 Stars.
Absolutely love Caties characters. They are so vivid and well defined that you feel they are real. There are a number of plot twists and some of them will surprise the reader. Peri Jean finds serious trouble and learns more about her family. Some of it is disturbing, but what she finally discovers is that all of us have to live the life that we choose. We cannot always please other. She is surprised to learns that she is stronger than she thought that she was. People who seriously enjoy reading about the paranormal are sure to enjoy this book.
This is one of my favourite series. Every book has an original plot and the subplots and characters develop with each new novel. In this one Peri Jean takes on the Coachman, an evil and destructive spirit who wants to use her to increase his own power. She also learns more about her family, a bunch of very colourful characters indeed!
I an really looking forward to getting stuck into the next book!
I enjoy these reads but I don't like how Peri Jean is evolving. I prefer more happy endings. I'm going to read the next book but maybe no more. It's not like I find them too scary, it's just that I don't like the lead character any more. She is almost weak in the way that evil seems to be able to overtake her. We will see what the author comes up with next.
Great read! I truly love this series and every darn part of Peri Jean Mace! The books keep getting better and the baddies keep getting more sinister. I can't wait to see what happens next with Peri Jean and with her family of Carney folk. It's definitely going to be interesting.
Perri Jean continues to find her family roots and the power which she holds. It's definitely not an easy task and there are obstacles in her way. The horrors never stop but neither do friendships or the blood of family. I enjoyed this read, even though it did get pretty crazy at times. The descriptive writing was top notch and you could see the dangers vividly.
I've made it to book #8. This series is full of twists and lots of action. Peri Jean is a force to be reckoned with, magic or no magic. I can't wait to see what the next book has in store!
"Crossroads".is another good read in the Peri Jean Mace series; yet, as I say this I also must confess that something was missing for me as well. It seems that Peri is in a holding pattern on her personal life..She is running circle on the gerbel wheel of life
Peri meets up with her long lost family and she witnesses first hand their crooked ways. Yet. She cannot deny the sense of family and belonging she feels with them. Before she gets too close she is confronted d with a case where a foolish teenage boy calls forth an evil entity known as the Coachman. Even though it should be a simple banishment, Peri, Griffin and Mysti cannot totally rod him from this plane and unfortunately, he now has Peri Jean's name. We all know the power in a true name.
It quickly becomes clear that something is wrong. Something is blocking Peri's ability to fully access her mantle. When she discovers what it is she will be saddened as to who saddled her with this burden. She is in the greatest risk of her existence and if she is going to survive and protect those she cares about she will have to find a way to access her powers despite her limitations. One of the greatest powers she has is her friends and once again Wade Hill is back in the picture to provide his help.
After seven books one issue that is bugging me is that Peri's happy ever after continually escapes her. While she has definitely come into her own, she would be even more fierce if she could be with someone who love, respected and accepted her just as she is. I for one hope that man is Wade. I guess we will just have to wait for future installments in order to find out.
Hands down, Peri Jean Mace is my fav character ever! And Catie never disappoints. This latest in the best series ever was adventure, intrigue and non stop action from start to finish! At first I wasn't sure I liked where Peri Jean was heading but realized it is fitting. Come on July for the next adventure in the Series!
Another great book by Catie Rhodes . I live in Shreveport and I think it's great having our small city mentioned in her books. The books are different than others that I have read. I read a lot of books. You can't go wrong with these. They have a little bit of everything in them.
Love these books. Each one is unique. Peri Jean is definitely .Not your typical heroine. She's fierce. The coachman a cometh. He's deadly, powerful, and can get under your skin. Period Jean must send him back before he can be reborn. She has a family now and friends that will stop at nothing to rid the coachman or die trying.
