Rate this book
An alien scientist has a half-human "inter-terrestrial" son on the primitive planet of Earth. Aliens from neighboring planets (Mars and Venus) think they own the Earth and are adamant that it not be used by higher species without their consent. For twenty years, this alien father has been trying to figure out a way to get back to this forbidden planet to see his son, desperately looking for an opportunity to present itself.

But how did this "inter-terrestrial" come to be? How has his human mother protected him on a planet where many people hate and fear what is different? And what role would this hybrid play in proving that humans are not inferior to our alien brethren?

[I was given a free copy of the book by the author in exchange for a review through Voracious Readers Only]

The Inter-Terrestrial is a delightfully strange book. I loved the originality of the plot- alien crash-lands on Earth and accidentally fathers a hybrid child after zapping a teenage farm girl with his DNA-but also the diverse alien species and cultures that Descoteaux featured in his world-building. The genre dips back and forth between a serious sci-fi novel and a wacky comedy with elements that seem to exist for the sheer audacity/hilarity of it (ex: samurai nuns, aliens from Uranus with buttocks for faces, and an appearance by a Jersey Shore's Snooki stand-in), yet it all seems to work. The story is very fast-paced in terms of its timeline but I felt it could have been slowed down to allow for better development of characters and exploration of their motivations though. Otherwise, this was an entertaining read.

The story is unexpected. Just when I thought I knew where it was going I was surprised. It read to me as YA since the main character is in high school and there's the teen struggle of angst. But that doesn't overshadow his bravery or resourcefulness. Also it is refreshing that it isn't another play on Star Trek. The ending didn't disappoint. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's written in third person omniscient and the transitions in thoughts are awkward making it jarring to read in placing. But it's a hopeful story that I recommend to anyone with an imagination.

Unexpected and gripping

I wasn't totally sure what to expect reading this bit to be honest if there was another I would read that one too. Sci fi mixed with adventure, rejection, and everything else managed to make an excellent story

The Inter-Terrestrial is a science fiction novel, but within this book are current themes regarding discrimination and prejudice. Chad Descouteaux writes smoothly and his writing reads as that of an author who has worked on his novel and concepts for quite a long time.

I found it very interesting how in this book humans were deemed as inferior, which was rather brilliant. So many times humans see themselves as the upper class in terms of other species and beings, but by putting them at the bottom of the galactic food chain, Descoteaux opened up a new dialogue for readers to discuss our place in the galaxy. He also presented prejudice in a new way that allows science fiction fans to understand the concept in the format of a genre they admire. I thought that Descoteaux's writing was knowledgeable and original and I thoroughly enjoyed his work. His novel is not only appropriate for science fiction fans, but for anyone who enjoys books that discuss prejudice and the crisis that is currently a major issue within our society. I love seeing so many novels examine this conflict and Descouteaux has written a novel that I feel is original and stands out in his chosen genre. I urge anyone who likes science fiction to read this novel as it is easy to understand and enjoy, and I have to say that it is one of the better novels that I have reviewed recently.

I hope that Descoteaux continues to write, because I would love to read more of his work and more about his stance on different topics.

I'm not really in to SCI-FI books but I really wanted to read this book as I thought the main idea is interesting. Let me start by saying that the story starts slow then many complex things happen.

Basically The Inter-Terrestrial is about a boy (alien) called Bloxnor, whose father was a soldier and died while fighting in the Neptunian Lunar war. Tarooma (his mother) took her son Bloxnor and moved to phase six. after adjusting to his new life, Bloxnor accidentally fell in to planet earth, where he met Becky ( a human), and had a son with her, half alien and half human (an inter-terrestrial son). Since he went back to phase six, Bloxnor (became a scientist) trying to figure out a way to go back to the forbidden planet earth in order to reunite with his son "Charlie".but aliens from neighboring planets (Mars and Venus) think they own the Earth and are adamant that it not be used by higher species without their consent.

While the storyline is good. There are still hits and misses. I think what really killed it is that it is a bit too long. However, I kept reading it because I really wanted to reach the ending, which was predictable. The description through out the book is very good but some of the characters needed more development to really get to know them and be able to sympathize with them. I also think there could be a better choice of a cover photo.

Overall, Indie Sci-fi author Chad Descoteaux is definitely an author to watch, I think he got a lot of potential and stories to tell. If you like SCI-FI books, you need to give this one a read!
