Staked out on an anthill and left to die in the Mexico desert isn’t a great way to start the day. But for Ace Lone Wolf, a half-Apache gunslinger with a quick draw and a talent for getting himself into hot water, it’s pretty much business as usual.
Broke again, Ace takes a job riding shotgun on a wagon delivering supplies to Dace Jackson, the richest cattle baron in the Arizona Territory. It’s just a job until Ace learns that the ruthless Jackson is trying to steal an entire town. Then it’s personal. Especially once he meets Annie, a beautiful young woman with green eyes a man could drown in.
But what can one man do against an army of hired gunmen? It won’t be enough to be fast with a gun. He’ll need smarts too. And a whole lot of luck.
The Lone Wolf Howls series can be read in any order.
Born in 1965, I grew up on a working cattle ranch in the desert thirty miles from Wickenburg, Arizona, which at that time was exactly the middle of nowhere. Work, cactus and heat were plentiful, forms of recreation were not. The TV got two channels when it wanted to, and only in the evening after someone hand cranked the balky diesel generator to life. All of which meant that my primary form of escape was reading.
At 18 I fled to Tucson where I attended the University of Arizona. A number of fruitless attempts at productive majors followed, none of which stuck. Discovering I liked writing, I tried journalism two separate times, but had to drop it when I realized that I had no intention of conducting interviews with actual people but preferred simply making them up.
After graduating with a degree in Creative Writing in 1989, I backpacked Europe with a friend and caught the travel bug. With no meaningful job prospects, I hitchhiked around the U.S. for a while then went back to school to learn to be a high school English teacher. I got a teaching job right out of school in the middle of the year. The job lasted exactly one semester, or until I received my summer pay and realized I actually had money to continue backpacking.
The next stop was Australia, where I hoped to spend six months, working wherever I could, then a few months in New Zealand and the South Pacific. However, my plans changed irrevocably when I met a lovely Swiss woman, Claudia, in Alice Springs. Undoubtedly swept away by my lack of a job or real future, she agreed to allow me to follow her back to Switzerland where, a few months later, she gave up her job to continue traveling with me. Over the next couple years we backpacked the U.S., Eastern Europe and Australia/New Zealand, before marrying and settling in the mountains of Colorado, in a small town called Salida.
In Colorado we starved and froze, started our own electronics business, and had a couple of sons, Dylan and Daniel. In 2005 we shut the business down and moved back to Tucson.
I am currently working on finishing The Devastation Wars fantasy series and attending graduate school.
Eric weaves another wonderful western. Ace is left to die staked out on top of an anthill....he stumbles into Tombstone for a visit with is good buddy Doc. Doc helps him land a job as a shotgun rider with a one eyed mule skinner with a secret. Ace runs into a few old "friends" on this delivery job and ends up the sheriff in Lily Creek, hell bent on protecting the town from a hostile takeover. Enter a possible love interest. Ace seems to be growing up, evolving but staying true to his honorable roots.
The second adventure of Ace Lone Wolf, a half-breed Apache, is as good and intriguing as the first one.
The story starts with Ace being in big trouble (as usual:)) and then only gets better. Ace is still soft on the heart when a woman in need is involved and he still meets characters larger than life, and he still turns out to be unbeatable at shooting:) And Coyote is still... Coyote:) (Those of you who have read the first book in the series will know what I mean:):):)
And then we get to know the character of Lou, based on a true historical figure of Charley Parkhurst - and I loved that character a lot: a grumpy, hard as the mules themselves mule-skinner who turns out to be the best "sidekick" Ace could have wanted to back him up in his adventure...
And there's the proverbial frosting on the cake (at least for me): the story had this "High Noon" mixed with "The Magnificent Seven" feeling to it, which in my book can't get any better:)
Now I can't wait to see what happens to Ace in The Black Pearl Treasure - I hope it will come out really soon:)
Ace Lone Wolf down on his luck, no money and looking for a job anywhere on any ranch. He's sitting and sharing a bottle of liquor with the famous Doc. Holiday who we all know is dying from consumption. Helps Ace with getting a job riding shotgun for Lou is delivers goods to different town's or ranches. As you read this entertaining adventure you'll discover there are persons who are hiding big big secrets and once you discover them it'll be surprise surprise surprise. Great description of the characters names such as James Miller "aka Killing Jim." Must not forget about Coyote Ace's horse whose very sensitive to how he's treated, in other words if he doesn't like you, your Irish getting bit or getting kicked by him. A lot of human tragedy but these settlers of Lily Creek have a lot of baggage but they don't judge one another but instead they give each other support...A great western adventure, looking forward to reading the next adventure of Ace Lone Wolf and Coyote..ride easy if that's possible.
Ace Lone Wolf is a half-Apache gunslinger. He's got a quick draw but often finds himself in hot water. It's hot, but there's no water. He is staked out in the Mexican desert and left to die. An old man sets him free. He's got no money, travels north to Arizona where he gets a job riding shotgun on a supply wagon headed to rancher Dace Jackson. He's the richest cattle baron in the Arizona Territory. Jackson is a greedy man and wants to take over an entire town. This novel is fascinating, full of action, gun fights; along with a little humor ... and maybe some romance. Get in the saddle and ride along with Ace. It will be a thrilling ride!
Ace Lone Wolf has another great adventure which includes a wide range of well-developed and interesting characters. The book has lots of action, and the style of writing suits it well. Some historically accurate characters are included which helps to place the time and area. The author does a good job of laying out the Apache way that Ace follows. The best part of the book is the many weird and wonderful characters. Each is a treasure onto itself, and the combination leaves the reader unable to laugh or cry as dangerous action takes place.
Book 2 in the thoroughly entertaining adventures of Ace Lone Wolf, half Apache and half White man. Barely escaping with his life after being staked out on an ant hill, Ace takes a job riding shot gun for Lou, a one-eyed Mule Skinner. They haul a delivery to a crooked land owner and then head in to a paradise of a town called Lily Creek. Ace takes care of some rowdy cowboys and ends up getting appointed Sheriff. This is important, because the rancher is intent on taking over the town and the Banker is planning to help him. Tons of action and loads of humor!
A New Mexico Western with a Apache/White Man and a Woman Dressed as a Man
ETK has penned a tongue in cheek western that includes the story of an Apache/White man with a horse whom he think is crazy. He meets a freight hauler and obtains a ride thinking a woman is a man. Once the two establish a relationship you begin too see the humor throughout the story. There are tense moments when our man must defend his Apache honor. This is an excellent read for the genre.....ER
This is a rip-roaring, action filled western - of the John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart kind. Ace Lone Wolf is the half Apache good guy riding in to save the day. Will he do it? Read the book. The setting is wonderful, the characters exactly what you would expect in the Old West. I missed the first one in the series but I will correct that error today. There's also a third and hopefully, Mr. Knight is hard at work on a fourth. Well done, sir. Well done.
This is the second Ace book I have read and it was just as good as the first. This one had a better ending; Ace didn't feel like he had been cheated. I thought for sure he would settle down with Annie, but since there is another book about Ace, he will still be a Lone Wolf.
Really very vivid description of all the characters with so much great humor. Any writer that describes someone's horse with the name cyote. This book was fun and very entertaining. I just have to read more about ace' s adventures.
While I hold out hope that Ace and Annie have a future, I guess I will just wait and see. I was amused about the famous gunslinger/killer. Read it to see what I mean. The trick in the meadow was priceless.
This is some consarnit good readin'. Ifn y'all like frontier adventure and fast talkin' main characters, purty womens, and old stanky mountain men, this here story is the one fer you!
Sometimes one wants to read a book that doesn't make you think about what might be. These books by Eric T Knight are great tales that lets you escape from the real world for a few hours...
While not an original sort of plot, it still works as a good storey,Ace has a great character and his effect on others makes for some thoughtful ideas and reading, I enjoyed this book.
Everything you want in an action packed western. Modern storytelling with a plot Zane Grey would be proud of. Even better than the first in the series. Loved it.
Ace is back and just as funny as the first book. I am amazed and entertained with the trouble that Ace can get into without even trying. It usually is not is fault but...The story caught my attention from the first page and I had to finish it in one setting with multiple laughing breaks. Full of action, twists, hysterical scenes and crazy characters it's just fun to read. Well worth a read.
