Shake Davis is back! Retired Marine officer Dale A. Dye returns with the seventh novel in his popular, award-winning “File” Aztec File. It’s time to Shake, rattle and roll.
When a former Marine and retired Texas Ranger drops by with evidence indicating terrorists are training south of the U.S. border, Gunner Shake Davis is more than a little interested in the back story. Determined to investigate the situation himself, Shake and his team head south across the Rio Grande where they discover a deadly connection between Middle Eastern terrorists and Mexican drug smugglers. Following a trail that snakes across Texas leads Shake directly into a deadly confrontation with a truck-bomber at a high-stakes rodeo in Ft. Worth. Shake’s intervention prevents a large-scale massacre, gains him un-wanted nationwide recognition. . . and puts a skilled Zeta assassin smack on his trail. When the situation threatens his family, Shake Davis reverts to close-combat mode to stop the terrorists in a blazing gunfight that echoes across the Texas plains.

ARC from Netgalley. Really explosive, high octane action thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. Although I understand it to be part of a series, not having read any others did not stop my enjoyment of this book. If you like McNab, Hassel, Cussler etc, then you will definitely like Dale.A. Dye!
This was a well written story that could have been a real life report. Some great characters and written in a way that kept the story flowing. Non stop action from beginning to end and an absorbing read.
*I received a kindle version of this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
I totally love this book. I just found out about this book through NetGalley. What can I say? I love to read books where the heroes save the country... I like how the story is more about patriotism rather than romance. In fact, you can hardly find romantic scenes in this book. Lots of cuss words are thrown here and there. But, if you can overlook it, then, this will be an interesting book.
3.5 stars. The Aztec File is the seventh book in the Shake Davis series. Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. There is a lot of violence, this is a suspense thriller involving terrorism, so it might not be suitable for more sensitive readers.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. This is a thriller that could be out of today's headlines. It is filled with terrorists who are determined to bring their jihad into the United States. As usual, everything is not as it seems. I look forward to reading more of this series.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Warrior Publishing Group. I chose to write a review for other readers.
A quick, easy read. I like that it was written by a "been there, done that" retired soldier. What I didn't like was the "guyness" (my own word) of the book... where if written by a soldier, about a soldier... it has an inordinate amount of foul comments, over the top cuss words, and references to female bodies, and thoughts of sex with said female bodies (not sex or making love with HER, BUT with her body or parts thereof). To me this brings what would have been a really great book way down to a two and a half stars. I was given this ebook by Net Galley to read for a review, this is my honest opinion, written in my own words.
Veteran, actor and author Dale Dye doesn’t disappoint in the latest installment of his “Shake Davis” series, Aztec File.
Retired Marine Warrant and counterintelligence operative Shake Davis just wants to live quietly with his wife Chan in a small town in Texas. Unfortunately, after years of chasing bad guys, Shake’s past keeps pulling him back in, with old friends aware of his reputation offering him “one more go,” at an adrenaline rush to protect the country he loves. Patriot that he is, Shake just can’t say no, and what starts as a simple reconnaissance entangles him in web where he is squarely in the sights of ISIS radicals and Mexican drug runners. Can the Gunner stay one step ahead one more time?
This book moves quickly and is a joy to read. The author inserts recent events into the story in order to both provide background and also comment on the current state of counterterrorism operations in the United States. Shake is a character that even first time reader’s of Dye’s work (like me) will appreciate and like, and the rest of the characters only add to the great story.
Fans of Dale Brown, Tom Clancy, and Jeff Edwards will enjoy this book.
