A mini-collection of prose poetry vignettes styled to look like dictionary entries. Volume 2 is mostly about seeking/finding God and a little about wanting to kiss Jesus on the mouth.
Unfortunately, I'm really unsure where I stand on this one. I really enjoyed some of the poems. They gave me a new aspect on something that I'm going through right now, and it's helping me get through a lot. The rest of the poems were very religious, which I've said time and time again, I really don't like to read. I guess I should have known by the crown of thorns on the front cover, but it was really surprising to me when I came across so many religious tones in this.
It's not a bad thing, I just don't personally enjoy them due to my own religious beliefs. Other people may very well enjoy this though, and I would recommend reading it! James' control over words is simply stunning and everything flows so well into one another. It takes my breath away.
“van gogh's hunger for yellow is the same as a lion's hunger for flesh is the same as your hunger for love. we are all born wild, beautiful, and starving.”
he's my idol at this point. i don't even know if pretty is enough a word to describe his poetry.
a deep thank you to Leigh for introducing me to Keaton St. James. He expresses the things I love and writes about the things I write about. Is there such thing as a poet spirit animal? If so, he’s mine.
“you trace your fingers over the bible-words like they could paint a braille portrait of the curves of his lips” wow wow wow. obsessed with how james shows queer relationships in his writing he has such a cool writing style
As I've said before, Keaton is one of my favorite poets. As a queer, trans Christian, his poetry makes me feel not alone in this world. It is beautiful, and consoling. If the point of poetry is to make someone feel, than this collections succeeds tenfold.
